Finneas has been tapped to beef up the music on Netflix’s hit series Beef, with the streamer announcing Thursday (March 12) that the two-time Oscar winner will compose the score for its second season.
The news comes a little more than a month ahead of season 2’s premiere on April 16, at which point the show will return with an entirely different cast and storyline. In a statement, Finneas said, “Spent the last 12 months in Beef land … very grateful to [creator Lee Sung Jin] for involving me, very grateful for the incredible performances from the entire cast.”
“I probably watched every scene 100 times while I scored the show, and I felt it every time,” he added. “True fan of this show, very honored and proud to be a part of it.”
Lee added, “Finneas is the brilliant mind behind most of the music that has soundtracked my personal life over the last decade, so it’s an absolute honor to collaborate with him on the new season. He has an incredible ability to make the darkest emotions sound so achingly beautiful, and I cannot wait for everyone to hear what he’s cooked up.”
Beef first premiered on Netflix in 2023, with Ali Wong and Steven Yeun leading the cast of season 1, which centered around two people who lock into an obsessive feud after a road-rage incident throws them into each other’s paths. The first season was nominated for nine Primetime Emmy Awards and won five, including outstanding limited or anthology series and the top acting prizes for Wong and Yeun.
The next season stars Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, Cailee Spaeny and Seoyeon Jang.
Best known for his production work with sister Billie Eilish, Finneas has previously scored the movie The Fallout and released two solo albums, most recent 2024’s For Cryin’ Out Loud! He and Eilish have also created songs for Barbie and the James Bond film No Time to Die — both of which won the Oscar for best original song — as well as Turning Red.
