The superstar covered Chappell Roan’s “Coffee” for her latest Kellyoke installment during her talk show on Wednesday (Sept. 26). “If I didn’t love you, it would be fine/ I’ll meet you for coffee, only for coffee/ Nowhere else is safe, every place leads back to your place,” Clarkson mused the melancholy lyrics backed by her instrumentalists, My Band Y’all.
Roan has skyrocketed to fame in the months since she dropped her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess last year. After a series of headline-making performances — including at Coachella and Gov Ball 2024 — the 14-track project earned a new peak of No. 5 on the Billboard 200 last month.
The album features the track “Coffee” as well as breakout hits “HOT TO GO!,” “Red Wine Supernova,” “Casual” and “Pink Pony Club.”
“It feels like I was right all along,” Roan recently told Jimmy Fallon of her musical rise during an appearance on his late-night talk show. “I feel kind of like, I made it already when people showed up to my concert a few years ago … everything else has been a cherry on top.”

A number of staffers at CMT, the Nashville-based country music and lifestyle programming network, have been let go as part of a broad swath of staff cuts taking place at Paramount Global.
Billboard has learned that among the music and talent team leaving are Stacey Cato (director of music and talent), Quinn Brown (vp of production), Ray Sells (senior director of production), Jennifer DeVault (senior producer), Jordan Walker (senior manager of music and talent), Abbi Roth (senior manager of music and talent) and Bryana Cielo (executive assistant), as well as Heather Graffagnino, vp of production management.
Among those remaining are Margaret Comeaux (senior vp of music and events production), Donna Duncan (vp of music and talent), Melissa Goldberg (vp of digital and social), Yasmin Mohammed (producer) and David Bennett (creative director).
Sources say that Paramount will continue to support CMT and is positioning the outlet for the future, but what that looks like is unclear.
This week, Paramount Global began a second round of staff cuts, as it continues its aim of reducing its U.S. workforce by 15%, seemingly in preparation for the company’s planned merger with Skydance Media. In a memo to staffers on Monday (Sept. 24), Paramount’s co-CEOs George Cheeks, Chris McCarthy and Brian Robbinsstated, “Like the entire media industry, we are working to accelerate streaming profitability while at the same time adjusting to the evolving landscape in our traditional businesses. In order to set Paramount up for continued success, we are taking these actions. Days like today are never easy. It is difficult to say goodbye to valued colleagues, and to those departing, we are incredibly grateful for your countless contributions.”
The cuts come as the company, like many legacy media companies, is seeing a decline in linear television viewership and advertising, and consumers continue to move toward streaming video and digital.

In June, Paramount cut nearly all the content roles across its CMT, MTV, Comedy Central and TV Land websites, while storied news site MTVnews.com was taken down. During a town hall on June 25, McCarthy noted that Paramount’s revenue had grown by 13% between 2018 and 2023, while the company’s operating income before depreciation and amortization (OIBDA) has fallen 61% during that same time frame. Thus, they are aiming at cutting $500 million in costs.
Country radio trade publication Country Aircheck first reported a number of the layoffs.
Reps for Paramount Global had not responded to Billboard‘s request for confirmation by press time.

Macklemore has released a statement after leading a “f— America” chant at Seattle’s Palestine Will Live Forever Festival over the weekend.
Macklemore performed his new song at the event, “Hind’s Hall 2,” the sequel to his May song of the same name whose proceeds are given to the United Nations Relief and Words Agency (UNRWA), which provides assistance to Palestinian refugees. “Straight up, say it, I’m not gonna stop you,” told the crowd in a fan video from the show. “I’m not gonna stop you… yeah, f–k America.”
On Tuesday (Sept. 24), the rapper was dropped from Las Vegas’ Neon City Festival lineup.
In his statement, released on Wednesday, Macklemore explains his mindset leading up to the performance. “My thoughts and feelings are not always expressed perfectly or politely. Sometimes I slip up and get caught in the moment. Saturday night was one of those times,” he began his lengthy statement posted to social media.
“Unfortunately, the historic event in my hometown that brought thousands of people together to raise awareness and money for the people of Palestine has become overshadowed by two words,” he continued, noting that he hasn’t been “OK” in the months since the Israel-Hamas war has broken out. ” I have been in utter disbelief with how our government is showing up at this moment in history. I don’t think I’m alone,” he wrote, “Some days I don’t know how to love something that is hurting others so much. I don’t think I’m alone.”
He continued, “And some days I wake up, see another couple billion dollars given to Israel, or another refugee encampment destroyed, or a father holding a limb from his martyred child, or another speech from a politician justifying the right of Israel to ‘defend itself’ while denying Palestinians the right to exist, and I say to myself…. ‘F— America.’ I don’t think I’m alone.”
Macklemore concluded his statement, “I’ve slipped in front of the world before. I’m sure I’ll do it again. But they will not silence my voice, and they will not close my heart. I’ve lost endorsements, I’ve lost shows, I’ve lost business ties. I am still here, unwavering in my support for a Free Palestine. I care about humanity and this earth too much to turn back now. My intent always comes back to the pursuit of peace, love, equality and liberation for all. And that isn’t radical, it’s human. I don’t think I’m alone.”

Shakira is joyfully embracing her newfound freedom in her latest track, “Soltera,” an ode to the pleasures of being single.
The song exudes a tropical pop vibrancy, encapsulating a celebration of singledom and self-liberation. With its catchy chorus and sun-kissed rhythms, the track is a jubilant anthem for anyone reveling in independence, underscored by her unmistakable vocals and zestful lyrics that advocate enjoying life unapologetically free. “I have the right to misbehave/ To have a good time/ I’m on my own and now I can do what I want to do/ It’s good to be single,” she sings.
“Soltera” follows her latest release, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, the album which crowned on Top Latin Albums and Latin Pop Albums, marking her as the first woman to secure No. 1 albums in four different decades.
On September 16, the Colombian powerhouse first teased the new single on Instagram, posting a scene of the music video at the LIV Miami nightclub. The video — which she captioned, “Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Jamaica and Venezuela present!” — featured a star-studded cameo with Anitta, Danna Paola, Lele Pons, and Winnie Harlow.
On Wednesday (Sept. 25), she shared another clip featuring herself aboard a yacht with Natty Natasha, Harlow, Pons, and more, all grooving to her signature moves. “I can’t believe you taught us that first move. Iconic, Shakira!,” commented Harlow on Shak’s IG.

A new production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet will be soundtracked by Radiohead’s 2003 album Hail to the Thief.

The Smile Cancel European Tour As Guitarist Jonny Greenwood Receives ‘Emergency Hospital Treatment…
Hamlet Hail to the Thief will see “Shakespeare’s words and Radiohead’s album illuminate one another in thrilling new ways as the music becomes a critical part of the narrative” a press release reveals. The production will include a cast of 20 musicians and actors performing the album live onstage during the play.
Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has collaborated with Tony and Olivier award-winner Christine Jones and Olivier award-winner Steven Hoggett for the production.
Hamlet Hail to the Thief will premiere at Manchester’s Aviva Studios, home of Factory International, in Manchester on Apr 27 and will run there until May 18, 2025. The production then transfers to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford Upon Avon, England from June 4 – 28, 2025. Tickets for the production go on sale on October 2; more details can be found here.
Speaking about the new arrangements of Hail To The Thief, Yorke said in a statement that it was an “interesting and intimidating challenge”. He added: “Adapting the original music of Hail To The Thief for live performance with the actors on stage to tell this story that is forever being told, using its familiarity and sounds, pulling them into and out of context, seeing what chimes with the underlying grief and paranoia of Hamlet, using the music as a ‘presence’ in the room, watching how it collides with the action and the text. Ghosting one against the other.”
Hail To The Thief was released in 2003 by the British band amidst the fallout of the invasion of Iraq and was critical of President George W. Bush’s ‘war on terror’ following 9/11. The album landed at No.3 on the Billboard 200 and at No.1 on the U.K.’s Official Album Charts and its artwork, which is incorporated in the play’s promotional poster, was created by frequent collaborator Stanley Donwood.
Speaking in 2003, Yorke said that the album’s lyrical content was influenced by “the rise of doublethink and the rise of general intolerance and madness, and feeling very much like individuals were totally out of control of the situation” and that “the force of the music gave me licence I think to explore all these things, really”. It spawned three singles, “2+2=5”, “Go To Sleep” and “There, There”.
Jones, who has previously collaborated with Hoggett on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and the stage adaptation of Green Day’s American Idiot said that William Shakespeare’s play, written between 1599 and 1601, aligned with their love of Radiohead’s record.
“Paying attention to the lyrics, I became aware of how many songs from Hail to the Thief speak to the themes of the play,” Jones says. “There are uncanny reverberances between the text and the album. For years I’ve wanted to see the play and album collide in a piece of theatre; eventually I shared the idea with Thom, who was intrigued.
Radiohead released their most recent album A Moon Shaped Pool in 2016 and the band members have worked on new projects ever since. Yorke and Jonny Greenwood’s The Smile will release their third studio album Cutouts on XL Recordings on Oct 4.
The band’s bassist Colin Greenwood recently revealed that the band had recently reconvened to rehearse but shared no news of imminent music.

Sure, Katy Perry is taking the stage at the Australian Football League’s Grand Final in Melbourne, Australia this Saturday (Sept. 28) — but that doesn’t mean she’s familiar with footy.
The “Woman’s World” singer joined Australian talk show The Project this week, where she was asked if she knew much about the game. “It’s a great game… with a ball,” Perry jokingly responded. However, she did know that the athletes wear “short shorts” on the field.
Perry added that she’s eager to learn more about the sport, and knew that the Brisbane Lions will be playing against the Sydney Swans in the Grand Final. “Yes, I’m singing ‘Roar’ and there is no advantage there. I was going to sing it before the Lions got in,” she playfully clarified. “I’m really excited to learn a lot more. I noticed that the AFL existed before the NFL, that means the Americans are copying the Australians.”
Perry will be spending plenty of time down under over the next year, as she recently announced that her upcoming Lifetimes Tour will swing into Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on June 9, 2025, following by arena dates in Melbourne, Brisbane and wrapping up at Perth’s RAC Arena. “It’s a party and you’re all invited! Stoked to see you in June 2025. Get ready for a high energy singalong to alllllll your faves,” Perry said at the time of announcement. The tour is in support of her freshly released album, 143, the followup to 2020’s Smile, which peaked at No. 2 on the ARIA Chart.
