Each year, an uncountable number of recording artists transform their discographies into live shows, going on tour to super-serve their biggest fans around the world. But a select few have the power to bring their fans to them, staging extravagant productions in one city as the masses travel to see a once-in-a-career performance. Here, we’re looking at the biggest residencies in Boxscore history.
Most often, these residencies occur at theaters in Las Vegas. Among the most popular international tourist destinations, Sin City has become a second home for many of the biggest acts in music.
Some ground rules: as with all Boxscore charts, this list only includes shows that were reported to Billboard Boxscore. The threshold for inclusion on this list is a minimum of 10 shows at a single venue. Some productions, especially those by MGM, will have a home base at a Vegas theater but travel to a handful of other venues, like The Theater at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Md. – only the home-venue shows will count toward residency totals.
Further, this list only includes residencies that have their own unique names and productions and setlists – no mini-residencies within a tour. That means that Harry Styles’ 15-show runs at Madison Square Garden and the Kia Forum are excluded, as they were part of Love On Tour. Same goes for the theater stints that made up Madonna’s Madame X Tour in 2019-20.
However, residencies that are broken up by tours do count. That means that Bruno Mars’ Park MGM residency – interrupted by the 24K Magic World Tour – is eligible, as is Carrie Underwood’s ongoing Reflection.
Scroll below for the 25 highest-grossing concert residencies of all time, according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore. Most recently, Dead & Company led a summer stint at Las Vegas’ Sphere, while Billy Joel and Lady Gaga wrapped years-long residencies in New York and Vegas, respectively.

Peso Pluma is bringing his hits (and new haircut) to fans across the country as part of his ÉXODO TOUR sponsored by Corona — and Billboard took to one of his recent shows to speak to some of his biggest fans.
During the Anaheim stop of his North American trek, we put the loyal attendees to the test by asking them trivia to see who knew the star best. Whether it was questions about his nickname or award accolades, Peso’s fans were quick to share their thoughts on the chart-topper. “I love his music because he [represents] the Latin community,” one concert attendee told host Judy Sanchez of her adoration for the singer. As for his favorite beer, another fan was quick to call out the answer. “Corona!” he exclaimed. “With a Corona in hand, I feel like I’m at the beach.”
Earlier this summer, La Doble P emphasized the value in living the fine line and enjoying some R&R. “In my free time, I like to be at the beach. I like drinking a nice cold beer,” he told us in a sit-down interview, adding that Cancun is his go-to beach destination. “A dip in the water to cool off, or at least I try.”
It’s a similar sentiment to one fan who cited a getaway weekend to a location like Rosarito Beach as a way he likes to live the fine life. “With some good Coronas and a band next to you, you got it all right there,” the fan told us.

When Alejandro Fernández takes the stage Sept. 14-15 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, it will mark his record 22nd year performing at one of the hottest music events in Sin City. But the event he has been playing for more than two decades isn’t a recurring casino or club residency — it’s Fiestas Patrias, the ever-growing weekend of programming celebrating El Grito de Dolores (when Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla’s call to arms ignited the Mexican War of Independence in 1810) and Mexican Independence Day, which are officially celebrated Sept. 15 and 16, respectively.
“Twenty-four years ago, I began what has become a tradition of celebrating Fiestas Patrias with the Latino community in Las Vegas,” the Mexican superstar tells Billboard. “I am proud to say it is now the biggest Mexican Independence Day celebration outside of Mexico and one of the most important single days of live Mexican music anywhere in the world.”

Fiestas Patrias are celebrated throughout the United States and Mexico in big and small ways — but Las Vegas’ version has become the single biggest Fiestas Patrias weekend for live Mexican music anywhere, with thousands of visitors from around the globe, though mainly from Mexico. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority calls it “one of the largest sources of international visitation” for the city.
This year’s bookings include returning acts, such as Luis Miguel, Los Bukis (who currently have a residency at Dolby Live), Gloria Trevi, Banda MS, Grupo Firme and Emmanuel, and newcomers like Peso Pluma, Fuerza Regida, Ana Bárbara and Carín León, performing at venues throughout the city. And as in previous years, not all of them are Mexican: Urbano stars Nicky Jam and Arcángel, for example, will join Luis R Conriquez and Codiciado at the third annual Rumbazo festival, taking place at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center Sept. 13-14 in partnership with Billboard.
But despite what it has become today, Las Vegas’ Fiestas Patrias origins weren’t particularly musical.
“In reality, it wasn’t born as a musical event but as a sporting event, when those big fights began, the great Mexican boxers,” says veteran tour promoter Henry Cárdenas, referring to the September 1992 match where Mexican Julio César Chávez famously beat Puerto Rican Héctor “Macho” Camacho for the WBC super lightweight belt. “Then they brought [musical] talent to join the party.”
This year, the boxing tradition continues with Mexican legend Canelo Álvarez putting his super middleweight titles on the line as he takes on Puerto Rican Edward Berlanga at the T-Mobile Arena on Sept. 14. But today music, not sports, is the driving force behind Las Vegas’ Fiestas Patrias celebration.
WBC Super Lightweight Champion Julio César Chávez (R) lands a right on challenger Héctor “Macho” Camacho in the first round of their September 12, 1992, fight in Las Vegas, NV.
For Luis Medina, executive producer/CEO of Uno Productions and a former manager of Julio Iglesias, the city’s Fiestas Patrias tradition dates back even further, to the late ’80s, when the Spanish star began coming to Vegas twice a year to perform a series of shows at Caesars Palace.
“Julio was perhaps primarily the one who opened Las Vegas to Latinos,” Medina says. “Then came [Mexicans] José José, Juan Gabriel, Vicente Fernández, those classics. And that process began.”
Little by little, he recalls, Las Vegas became a Latin artistic hotspot — and the city’s hospitality industry took note. “Many hotels were surprised that they were being left behind because all these movements were happening, and they were still studying us with a magnifying glass,” Medina says. “They thought it was only with Luis Miguel or Julio Iglesias or Vicente Fernández” that audiences would show up.
Eventually, the demand led not only the biggest hotels to book Mexican and Latin talent but also smaller venues and nightclubs. “This effervescence was created as a result of all these processes, and Las Vegas began to grow,” Medina says. “Today, the millions of dollars that drive our business is impressive and allows Las Vegas to live off the Latin market in the month of September.”
Hundreds of thousands of Mexicans travel from south of the border to celebrate their independence in Vegas; even a decade ago, more than 300,000 Mexicans came by air alone for the 2013 festivities, according to a Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority report. And, Cárdenas adds, most of them have good purchasing power. “When you are coming to Las Vegas to celebrate from Mexico, there are other additional costs — the hotel, the tickets, the food, the good life, the partying. And that patron has distinguished himself because he is high class, and he comes prepared to celebrate … and attend at least three or four events that weekend,” he says.
“The people, culture and traditions of Mexico have made a significant impact on the city both on and off the Strip,” says Molly Castano, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority president of public relations and communications, adding that “the celebrations that take place in honor of Fiestas Patrias are proof of that impact and connection.”
As for Alejandro Fernández, his Fiestas Patrias Vegas bookings have only grown: In 2022, his show went from one to two sold-out nights at the 17,000-capacity MGM Grand Garden Arena.
“He was the first artist that we worked with that wanted to create his special weekend in Las Vegas, and there’s nothing more mexicano than La Familia Fernández,” says Emily Simonitsch, senior vp of West Coast booking at Live Nation. “I think it’s impactful because he does the traditional celebration halfway through the show, celebrating the tradition of El Grito and Independencia with the flag and the bells and the dancers. So that’s what created it. That’s what El Grito is about.”
“This is a demonstration of the cultural influence and economic power of the Latino community in the U.S.,” Fernández adds. “I look forward to continuing the tradition for many years to come, representing my pride and love for Mexico, our people and our music.”
This story appears in Billboard‘s Rumbazo special issue, dated Sept. 14, 2024.

Chappell Roan told a photographer off at the 2024 MTV VMAs red carpet, and spoke about why she did it. Keep watching to see her reasoning.
Narrator: Chappell Roan had a big night at the MTV VMAs and made a bold statement on the red carpet with a fiery exchange with a photographer. Chappell made her MTV VMA debut on Wednesday night, but things got crazy before the show even began, and it was all caught on video. While posing for photos on the red carpet, a photographer seemingly said, “shut the f–k up,” which prompted the star to turn around and deliver an unfiltered response. While it’s unclear whether the photographer was speaking to her or not, Chappell spoke about the incident during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
Chappell Roan: I think for someone who gets a lot of anxiety around people yelling at you, the carpet is horrifying. And I need to, I yelled back. I yelled back! You don’t get to yell at me like that!
Narrator: Chappell has been vocal about her experience with fame and setting boundaries, and has received support from her peers in the industry. Noah Kahan took to Twitter to react to the red carpet incident, saying, “I’ll never forget leaving Clive Davis and the horrific s–t photographers and paparazzi or whatever were saying to me in front of my sweet mom, who couldn’t believe it was actually happening. Love this Chappell Roan way to stand up for yourself.”
The night, turned around for Chappell. She gave a show-stopping performance of her Hot 100 hit “Good Luck, Babe!” and took home Best New Artist.

Of all the pop stars in the world, who could rule the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards without being nominated for any awards or even setting foot on the premises? That would be Britney Spears, b—h.

This year’s awards on Wednesday (Sept. 11) were chock full of small and large tributes to the 43-year-old pop icon, from references to Spears’ most legendary performances to subtle nods to her music videos and fashion. The most direct example was when host Megan Thee Stallion came out dressed in a recreation of the famous green bra and blue skirt the superstar wore at the same ceremony 23 years prior while performing “I’m a Slave 4 U,” complete with a yellow snake around her shoulders.
But while Brit was able to look totally cool and collected while singing with the 7-foot albino Burmese python on her shoulders in 2001, the Houston rapper was a lot less calm. “I don’t know this snake, this snake don’t know me,” Meg said nervously, instructing her crew to promptly get the reptile off of her. “Oh my god! I tried to hold it down for Britney.”
The “WAP” musician’s discomfort with the snake was even funnier considering the reptilian theme of her latest album Megan — which reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200 — and its hit singles “Hiss,” “Boa” and “Cobra.” It might make her feel better to know that secretly, Spears was also terrified of her nonhuman performance partner back in 2001, with the “Toxic” singer tweeting in 2023, “I still remember how scared I felt when I was handed this snake and took the stage !!!”

At the same VMAs where Brit sang “I’m a Slave 4 U,” she also wore a sheer, lacy Dolce & Gabbana minidress on the red carpet. Twenty-three years later, another pop star wore almost the exact same look to the 2024 event: Tate McRae, who also addressed having fans compare her to Spears.
“I honestly take it as a compliment,” she told The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet before the show. “I think she’s one of the most incredible performers of the 2000s. I remember watching her as a kid all the time.”
Spears’ impact was also evident in Sabrina Carpenter‘s performance later that night, with the latter playing an audio snippet of the former’s spacey “Oops!…I Did It Again” music video during the transition between her Billboard Hot 100-topping hit “Please Please Please” and new single “Taste.” Plus, Carpenter at one point pulled in a female dancer dressed like an alien for a sensual kiss, carrying on a tradition set by Spears’ culture-shocking smooch with Madonna on the VMAs stage in 2003.

Sure, summer is over, but Brat season is here to stay. On Thursday (Sept. 12), Charli XCX unveiled her new “Talk Talk” remix featuring her Sweat Tour co-star Troye Sivan.
On the amped-up new remix, Charli and Sivan take the original lyrics depicting the early stages of romance and imbue them with new, sexed-up verve. Where the original saw Charli commiserating over miscommunication in a relationship, the remix sees Sivan getting straight to the point: “‘Kay, here’s the plan/ I wanna fly you out to Amsterdam/ I got a good hotel to f–k you in,” he sings.

The track also features a few spoken lines from Dua Lipa, who takes Charli’s request for someone to “Talk to me in Spanish/ Talk to me in French” to their literal conclusions. Opening the track, Dua invites Charli and Sivan to a party at her place in Spanish, before closing the song by saying she lost her phone at the soirée in French.
But in the words of Steve Jobs, Charli had “one more thing” for her fans. Shortly after dropping her latest remix, the “360” singer announced the long-awaited album of Brat remixes via Instagram. Titled Brat and It’s Completely Different But Also Still Brat, the new version of the album will be available everywhere starting Oct. 11.
Charli and Sivan are currently finishing up preparations for their much-anticipated co-headlining Sweat Tour, which kicks off this Saturday (Sept. 14) in Detroit. The new tour will see the pair travel all around North America before concluding its run in Seattle on Oct. 23. Dua Lipa will spread her sunny perspective across the globe next year. The “Houdini” singer announced the dates for the 43-date world tour in support of her Radical Optimism album on Thursday (Sept. 12). Following a run of previously announced Asian shows in November and December of this year that are slated to kick off on Nov. 5 with a pair of gigs at Singapore Indoor Stadium, Dua will hit Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand and Korea before gearing up for the 2025 run of gigs.
Next year’s tour is slated to launch on March 20 with a show at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia and hit New Zealand before hopping to Europe for arena shows in Spain, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium and England and then moving on to North America for a fall run.
After kicking off with a two-night stand in Toronto on Sept. 1-2, Dua will criss-cross the U.S. in September, then winding down with the second of two shows at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle on Oct. 16. Fans can sign up now for an artist presale here, as well as a general onsale slated to kick off on Sept. 20.
