Dua Lipa is known for her dance floor-ready hits more than for her personal life, and she intends to keep it that way.

In a new, wide-ranging 60 Minutes interview with the “Levitating” pop star, journalist Anderson Cooper asks her for her response to critics who say her songs don’t “have a sense of who you are” and aren’t very personal. “It’s something that I just naturally hold back,” Lipa explains. “Some people are just so ruthless with their own private life that they decide to put it all out in a song because they know that it’s going to attract people’s attention.”

She continued, “For me, it was always important to make music that people really loved, not because I was putting someone on blast or because I’m doing it for clickbait at someone else’s expense.”

Her music is certainly something people love about her. Her recently released third studio album, Radical Optimism, topped the Official U.K. Albums Chart and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, her highest charting project to date.

She’s also gearing up to embark on a 43-date world tour in support of Radical Optimism. The 2025 leg of the tour is slated to launch on March 20 with a show at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia and hit New Zealand before hopping to Europe for arena shows in Spain, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium and England and then moving on to North America for a fall run.

KISS spent the majority of its five-decade career disguising their faces in makeup. Now, as the band plans the next phase for its music and iconic characters, KISS is still leaving its fans with mystery and intrigue.

After the culmination of The End of the Road Tour in December, KISS began the year with the sale of its name and likeness and plans to live eternally in the digital world. Details are scarce, but the band has said the virtual performance should launch in Las Vegas in 2027. In a conversation with Billboard’s Behind the Setlist podcast, frontman Paul Stanley won’t say exactly how the group will carry its legacy into the future. But in typical KISS fashion, Stanley has ambitious goals.

“It’s a must-see, go-to experience,” Stanley boasts. “It’s beyond anything that anyone else has contemplated.”

Virtual artists are nothing new: a Tupac Shakur hologram appeared at Coachella in 2012, and avatars have resurrected deceased musicians such as Ronnie James Duo and Whitney Houston for live performances. Those earlier examples of digital likenesses pale in comparison to Abba Voyage, a high-budget, mixed virtual reality-live music concert in London that has won rave reviews.

In April, KISS sold its name and likeness rights to Pophouse, the Swedish company that helped build Abba Voyage around virtual versions of Abba’s four members made to look decades younger. Although those early generations of avatars wowed audiences, KISS isn’t content to replicate the previous models, says Stanley.

“We’re creating something that’s not a concert,” he explains. “The idea of a hologram — and it’s not a hologram, but that term seems to get thrown around a lot — but the idea a simulated concert is not what we want to do. Frankly, I would find that boring.”

Like Abba Voyage, which takes place in the purpose-built, 3,000-capacity ABBA Arena in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, the KISS experience will require a dedicated venue built around the technology, says Stanley. Las Vegas is filled with venues, from Sphere to T-Mobile Arena to numerous theaters that host long-term residencies (Bruno Mars at Park MGM, for example). Stanley is mum on the venue but tells Billboard the final product will be more advanced than Abba Voyage.

“Now, mind you, the Abba show is an older technology, because technology moves ahead at an exponential rate,” says Stanley. “So, by the time that show started to be presented, there was new technology.” To that end, he adds, KISS will work with Industrial Light & Magic, the visual effects company founded by filmmaker George Lucas that produced special effects for the Star Wars, Terminator and Jurassic Park franchises.

KISS fans got a preview of its plans in December when then band revealed digital depictions showed at the final End of the Road concert and released a two-minute sizzle reel, KISS: A New Era Begins, that shows the band donning motion-capture technology to create their digital likenesses. Stanley insists that the final product will be far more advanced.

“That was just an early — I don’t want to say rendering — but an early version of what is to come and is still being worked on,” says Stanley. “But it bears little resemblance to what was there. What we were showing was just the inception of the idea that we can continue on outside of flesh and blood.”

As for Stanley, he expects to stay busy outside of prepping the Las Vegas show. Stanley leads a retro-soul band, Paul Stanley’s Soul Station, that plays original and classic soul songs and released an album, Now and Then, in 2021. He has forged a successful career as a painter. Asked if he’ll release another solo album—following his 1978 eponymous album and Live to Win from 2006 — Stanley keeps his fans guessing.

“We’ll see,” he says. “I’m not done with music, that’s for sure. I’ve become more judicious in what I do, picking and choosing, because as you get older, you see more and more that anything you do takes you away from something else. And at some point, it really comes down to picking and choosing what you do as it relates to what you don’t get to do. So yeah, I mean, I’ll certainly do more music. Music is a big part of who I am.”

Tito Jackson’s death on Sunday Sept. 15 at age 70 has put a spotlight on the Jackson 5 (later the Jacksons), which had a string of classic hits in the 1970s and ’80s.

Related

You may be surprised to learn that the J5 never won a Grammy. Michael Jackson won 13 Grammys, but all were for his solo career.

Three J5 classics – “I Want You Back,” “ABC” and “I’ll Be There” – have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, which functions as a second chance for the Recording Academy to honor great recordings.

The J5 have yet to receive a lifetime achievement award from the Recording Academy, though Michael received a posthumous lifetime achievement award in 2010.

The J5 were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 by their old pal Diana Ross, who was credited with having discovered them. (Whether or not she actually discovered them, she did lend her name to their 1970 debut studio album, which was titled Diana Ross Presents the Jackson 5.) Michael was inducted into the Rock Hall as a solo artist in 2001.

Here are the three Jackson 5 records that were nominated for, but did not win, Grammys.

“ABC” (1970)

Nominated for: Best contemporary vocal performance by a duo, group or chorus

Lost to: Carpenters, “Close to You”

Notes: Both family acts were red-hot at the time. “Close to You” topped the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks and was Billboard’s No. 1 song of the summer for 1970. “ABC,” which topped the Hot 100 for two weeks, was the J5’s second No. 1 hit of 1970 (out of a career-launching volley of four consecutive No. 1 hits). “Close to You” was also nominated for record of the year (unlike “ABC”), which showed its strength with Grammy voters. “ABC” and “Close to You” have both been voted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, a sign that both are now regarded as top-tier classics.

Fun fact: Michael was known to be a fan of the Carpenters.

“Dancing Machine” (1974)

Nominated for: Best R&B vocal performance by a duo, group or chorus

Lost to: Rufus’ “Tell Me Something Good”

Notes: “Dancing Machine” was an important record in the J5’s career. It not only became their biggest Hot 100 hit in three years, but it showed them to be all grown up, with little trace of the bubblegum of such early hits as “ABC.” The record peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100 behind Ray Stevens’ inane novelty hit “The Streak,” a look at the then-hot fad of streaking (see also: the streaker who raced across the stage behind David Niven on the 1974 Oscars). Stevie Wonder wrote the beyond-funky “Tell Me Something Good,” which was Rufus’ first Hot 100 hit. It reached No. 3.

Fun fact: The J5 performed “Dancing Machine” on The Carol Burnett Show in 1974 and on Cher’s solo TV show the following year. Cher, who did not lack for nerve, joined the group in a medley of five of their hits, capped by “Dancing Machine.”

Triumph (1980)

Nominated for: Best R&B performance by a duo or group with vocal

Lost to: The Manhattans’ “Shining Star”

Notes: How were Grammy voters expected to compare performances on full albums like Triumph with performances on singles like “Shining Star”? Good question. (The Recording Academy no longer pits albums and singles against each other in performance categories.)

Triumph reached No. 10 on the Billboard 200, becoming the group’s first top 10 album since the J5 (which had four top 10 albums) evolved into the Jacksons in 1976. Triumph spawned four Hot 100 hits on the Hot 100: “Lovely One” (No. 12), “Heartbreak Hotel” (No. 22). “Can You Feel It” (No. 77) and “Walk Right Now” (No. 73). None of them were as big as “Shining Star,” which reached No. 5, becoming the second-biggest group by the old-school R&B vocal group, whose “Kiss and Say Goodbye” reached No. 1 in the summer of 1976.

Fun fact: The Manhattans were signed to Columbia, sister label to The Jacksons’ Epic. That may have made CBS Records’ post-Grammys party a little awkward that year.

Kendrick Lamar went viral once again, but this time it wasn’t because of a surprise diss track. UFC 306 happened over the weekend in Las Vegas for “Noche UFC” at the Sphere to celebrate Mexican Independence Day, and a bunch of celebs were in attendance to catch the main event between Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili.

One of those celebrities was boxer Terence “Bud” Crawford, who was taking in the action as he was seated next to Turki Al-Alshaikh, the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority.

However, while the producers of the telecast got Al-Alshaikh’s name correct, they confused Crawford for rapper Kendrick Lamar when the camera panned to one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world. Of course, fans took notice and posted videos of the gaffe all over social media, with one user telling UFC they will be, in fact, “going to hell.”

Both Crawford and UFC boss Dana White had a laugh about the situation. Bud felt like it was done on purpose by some young, intrepid producer who’s been tapped in with the rap battle that defined the summer.

“To be honest, I think it was intentionally done just for laughter because how can you get us mixed up?” Crawford told TMZ. “All in all, it was funny to me.”

He also told the outlet that a bunch of people hit him up referencing when Kendrick name-dropped him in his Drake diss song “Euphoria,” where the Compton rapper told his rival, “I don’t like you poppin’ s–t at Pharrell, for him, I inherit the beef/Yeah, f–k all that pushin’ P, let me see you Push-a T/ You better off spinnin’ again on him, you think about pushin’ me/ He’s Terrence Thornton, I’m Terence Crawford, yeah, I’m whoopin’ feet.”

During the post-fight press conference, White also had some fun with the mixup and said he had already spoken to the boxer about the mistake. “I was talkin’ to Terence Crawford,” he said while laughing. “I don’t wanna call him … I don’t know who the hell did that and thought it was … Yeah, that was pretty bad. He did kind of look like Kendrick Lamar, though, let’s not f—k around … So, when I said we had a flawless production tonight, I take that back.”

In other K. Dot news, he dropped an untitled track with cryptic lyrics that seemed to be aimed at Drake and the rap industry at large where he proclaims that “it’s time to watch the party die.” This new song comes just days after he announced that he would be headlining Super Bowl 59 in February.

Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile” secures a third week at No. 1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts. Three weeks earlier, the duet debuted at the runner-up rank on each survey.

Linkin Park lands the highest debut on both the Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S., as the band’s comeback single, “The Emptiness Machine,” launches at No. 2 on the latter and No. 3 on the former.

Plus, Sabrina Carpenter claims three songs in the top 10 of both the Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. for a third week, all from her new album, Short n’ Sweet, which notches a third week at No. 1 on the U.S.-based Billboard 200.

The Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts, which began in September 2020, rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Luminate. The Global 200 is inclusive of worldwide data and the Global Excl. U.S. chart comprises data from territories excluding the United States.

Chart ranks are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, as well as download sales, the latter of which reflect purchases from full-service digital music retailers from around the world, with sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites excluded from the charts’ calculations.

“Die With a Smile” leads the Global 200 with 111.4 million streams (up 5% week-over-week) and 9,000 sold (down 10%) worldwide Sept. 6-12. The ballad, released Aug. 16, is Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ first No. 1 each since the chart began.

Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” rises 3-2 on the Global 200, following three weeks at No. 1 beginning in August.

Related

Linkin Park’s “The Emptiness Machine” soars onto the Global 200 at No. 3, marking the band’s first top 10 since the chart began, with 74 million streams and 19,000 sold worldwide Sept. 6-12, its first full tracking week; it premiered at 6 p.m. ET on Sept. 5. The song is the lead single from From Zero, Linkin Park’s eighth studio album, due Nov. 15. It’s the group’s first LP of all new music since the death of co-frontman Chester Bennington in 2017 and its first with vocalist Emily Armstrong.

Notably, as “The Emptiness Machine” concurrently blasts to No. 1 on the U.S.-based Hot Hard Rock Songs chart, it’s the first leader on the list also to have hit the Global 200’s top three.

Sabrina Carpenter claims three songs in the Global 200’s top 10 for a third week: “Taste” slips to No. 4 from its No. 2 high; “Espresso” drops 4-5, following three nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 beginning in June; and “Please Please Please” descends 5-6, after two weeks at No. 1 also starting in June. She’s the first artist to triple up in the top 10 over three weeks in 2024, besting Eilish and Taylor Swift, each with two such weeks this year.

“Die With a Smile” tops Global Excl. U.S. with 86.1 million streams (up 9%) and 5,000 sold (up 1%) outside the U.S. Sept. 6-12. As on the Global 200, it became Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ first No. 1 each since the survey started.

Linkin Park’s “The Emptiness Machine” bounds onto Global Excl. U.S. at No. 2, becoming the band’s first top 10, with 60.8 million streams and 11,000 sold outside the U.S. Sept. 6-12.

Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” slides 2-3 after three weeks atop Global Excl. U.S. beginning in August; Carpenter’s “Espresso” drops 3-4, following eight nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 beginning in May; and Karol G’s “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido” holds at No. 5, after reaching No. 2.

Related

Plus, Carpenter’s “Taste” falls to No. 6 on Global Excl. U.S. from its No. 4 best and “Please Please Please” backtracks 6-7, following a week at No. 1 in June. Already the only artist with multiple weeks with three songs in the top 10 simultaneously this year, she adds a third week achieving the feat.

How to Watch Monday Night Football Games on ESPN+

Gone are the days of simply switching channels to catch all of your favorite NFL games, and it can be hard to keep track of which games are streaming on which platforms. For example, Prime Video is the streaming home for Thursday Night Football, while Sunday football games are available on NBC, CBS, Paramount+ and Peacock, and some Monday Night Football games are scheduled to simulcast on ESPN+ and ABC.

With ESPN+, you’ll get access to football and more for $10.99 a month (or bundle with Disney+ and Hulu). Watch the NFL, college football, soccer, MLB, NBA, NHL, UFC, PGA Tour, Top Rank, PLL Playoffs, Premiere League, La Liga, cricket and other sporting events on ESPN+.

What else can you stream on ESPN+? Sports lovers can binge dozens of must-watch series and TV shows, and original content such as PPV fights, the entire 30 for 30 series and tons of other exclusives such as In the Arena: Serena Williams, The Captain, Tom Brady: Man in the Arena, Al Davis vs. The NFL, Vick, Be Like Water, Breakaway, More Than An Athlete with Michael Strahan, Eli’s Place, Abby’s Place, The Place’s Universe, Why Not Us: Grambling Dance and Our Time Baylor Basketball.

ESPN+ isn’t on sale right now, but you can subscribe to the annual plan ($109.99) to save your around $22 off the $10.99 monthly price. Also, Hulu offers a student discount for just $1.99/month and bundle deals allow you to save on streaming packages. For example, the Disney+ Trio Bundle includes Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN+ for $14.99/month.

Keep in mind, while there are different ways to watch football games from your TV, phone, laptop or computer, the price will vary depending on the platform. Fortunately, ESPN is available on several streamers including Fubo, Sling and Hulu + Live TV.

Hulu + Live TV gives you access to 90+ channels in edition to ESPN+, Hulu and Disney+, and DVR storage, for $76.99/month. And there’s a free trial for three days.

Monday Night Football: Games, Dates & Time

Monday Night Football kicked off on Sept. 9 and will continue into January 2025. Last week’s debut between the New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers averaged 20.5 million viewers, down from the previous year.

By comparison, Last year’s MNF kickoff games between the Jets and Buffalo Bills drew a record-breaking 22.6 million viewers, making it the most watched MNF game in history beating out the previous record-holder, a 2009’s game between the Packers and Vikings.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Philadelphia Eagles’ 2023 win over the Chiefs (21-17) last November drew a record 29 million viewers in total, a 27-year ratings high and the highest numbers of the season for a single game since the Super Bowl.

Tonight’s game launches the MNF season of single games and doubleheaders. However, some doubleheaders, will broadcast around the same time. That means football fans will be flipping channels during MNF and if you don’t have cable, you can watch and record both games under the streaming plans with Fubo and other streaming plans mentioned above.

Want to watch MNF from anywhere? Even if you don’t have cable, there are plenty of ways to watch NFL games without spending your entire paycheck. To make the process a little easier, we put together some of the better options for MNF and other NFL games.

Beyond the game itself, NFL ratings have received a boost thanks in part to Taylor Swift who appeared at the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Baltimore Ravens season kickoff last week, and has shown up to a few other games to support for her boyfriend, Travis Kelce.

NFL ratings hit another high mark last Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The Thanksgiving game between the Cowboys and Commanders snagged a whopping 44 million viewers, the third-largest audience for a regular season game in history. The game aired on CBS and stream on Paramount+.

The Cowboys beat the Commanders 45-10. The NFL team is no stranger to Thanksgiving games as the Cowboys have played a game on Thanksgiving day nearly every year since 1966.

Will the new season score big in ratings? We’ll have to wait and see, but fans who want to watch games live, either from home or on-the-go, can easily stream select NFL games and more on ESPN+.

MNF sound a bit different this season. That’s because ESPN enlisted the help of J Balvin to curate the music for select games. Chris Stapleton, Timbaland and Justin Timberlake curated the music for last year’s games, preceded by Marshmello in 2022, Drake in 2021, DJ Khaled in 2020 and Diplo in 2019.

To kick off the collaboration, the NFL debuted a remix of Balvin’s song “DOBLEXXO” featuring Feid from his new album Rayo.

“ESPN’s Music curation program with Monday Night Football continues with an artist that will amplify the bold and new music strategy,” said Curtis Friends, ESPN vice president of sports marketing. “J Balvin is a global icon whose influence hits with diverse cultures and genres. His music choices embrace the anticipation and excitement the ESPN football season offers, and we can’t wait for him to come along the season-long ride with us.”

With the season is just getting started, there are a ton of games left on the MNF schedule, and plenty of opportunities to watch them live. Click here to get tickets to see your favorite NFL games in person.

Hispanic Heritage Month is in full swing, taking place from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. The month-long celebration is recognized in the United States to honor the contributions and influence of Latin culture in the country. Latin music’s impact and influence is no exception.

For many years, Latin music has played a key role in shaping what is considered mainstream culture today, with dozens of milestone moments throughout the years — from West Side Story landing on Broadway in the 1950s (with a storyline that focuses on New York’s Puerto Rican immigrants experience) to Daddy Yankee‘s “Gasolina” fueling a global reggaetón movement in the early 2000s.

Most recently, Karol G‘s history-making Mañana Será Bonito stadium tour, in support of her Billboard 200-topping album by the same name, became the highest-grossing Latin tour by a woman in Boxscore history. Additionally, in 2023, Latin music revenues in the United States hit an all-time high last year, exceeding the $1 billion mark on the wings of 24% growth that outpaced the overall market. For a second year in a row, Billboard reported in April that Latin music revenues once again exceeded the $1 billion mark on the wings of 16% growth.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, take a look at 25 defining moments for Latin music in the United States.

Billboard Latin Music Week is returning to Miami Beach on Oct. 14-18, with confirmed superstars including Gloria Estefan, Alejandro Sanz and Peso Pluma, among many others. For tickets and more details, visit Billboardlatinmusicweek.com.
