Lana Del Rey and Quavo‘s “Tough” tops this week’s new music poll.

Music fans voted in a poll published Friday (July 5) on Billboard, choosing the duo’s just-dropped, Western-trap track as their favorite new music release of the past week.

Lana and Quavo’s fresh new collab brought in more than 66% of the vote. Voters this week chose “Tough” over new music releases from Kesha, Childish Gambino, Eminem feat. Big Sean and BabyTron, Morgan Wallen and Zach Bryan.

Lana Del Rey brought the Migos rapper to the stage to surprise-debut “Tough” at her sold-out (and delayed, due to inclement weather) stadium show at Fenway Park on June 20, right after he’d hyped the song in a clip on Instagram that week.

A little bit country, a little bit trap and alt-pop, the Andrew Watt- and Cirkut-produced track has a dreamy hook that’s tough to quit humming when the song’s over, with a chorus the two share: “Tough like the scarf on a pair of old leather boots/ Like the blue-collar, red-dirt attitude/ Like a .38 made out of brass/ Tough like the stuff in your grandpa’s glass/ Life’s gonna do what it does/ Sure as the good lord’s up above/ I’m cut like a diamond shining in the rough, tough.”

“I’ll show you around … Come take a ride with me. Whenever. Whenever you ready, call on me,” Quavo tells Lana as the song comes to a close.

“Our new song is out with the toughest rapper I know @quavohuncho,” Del Rey wrote in an Instagram post on release day, while Quavo predicted the track will be “Song Of The Summer” on his own post.

A music video for “Tough” with home-video vibes was also unveiled alongside the single’s release this week, putting the pair’s chemistry on display as they spend a sweet, intimate day together out in the countryside.

Among the new music trailing behind “Tough” on this week’s poll is Kesha’s brand-new song “Joyride,” with 21% of the vote, and Childish Gambino’s “Lithonia,” with 5% of the vote.

“What if The Silence of the Lambs happened at a Taylor Swift concert?”

That was the question M. Night Shyamalan asked when he pitched the concept of his new film Trap, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker revealed in an interview with Empire magazine.

Trap follows a dad (Josh Harnett) as he brings his teen daughter (Ariel Donoghue) to a concert to see Lady Raven, a fictional pop star played by Shyamalan’s real-life daughter, Saleka Shyamalan, The Hollywood Reporter says. But it’s not all fun and friendship bracelets here: they find themselves in the middle of a police operation to capture a serial killer known as “The Butcher.”

In the latest trailer previewing the movie, seen below, a stadium employee says in a hushed voice, “This whole concert is a trap.”

As Shyamalan told Empire, “I directed an entire concert! And it wasn’t just a thing in the background. It’s equally important. There is no pretend concert going on.”

The director added, “I love the idea of cinema as windows within windows. One of the reasons to come see the movie at the movie theater is because there’s literally a real concert that you can see nowhere except in that movie.”

Shyamalan said Trap was partially influenced by his daughter’s aspiring music career, and inspired in part by the 1985 “Operation Flagship,” a sting operation by U.S. Marshals and the DC Metropolitan Police Department that resulted in the arrest of more than 100 wanted fugitives who were lured in by free NFL tickets and the chance to win a trip to the Super Bowl. “The cops were literally cheerleaders and mascots. These guys were dancing as they came in. And they were all caught. It was so twisted and funny,” Shyamalan commented.

Trap, from Warner Bros. Pictures, will be in theaters Aug. 9.

Check out Warner Bros.’ new trailer for Trap and a clip of Saleka Shyamalan, who penned 14 original songs for the film, performing as Lady Raven below.

Of her goals in music, in a profile on the family published by The New York Times she said, “I think once he [M. Night Shyamalan] saw that I had passion for it in the same way that he had a passion for film, he understood it and was like, all right, I’m with you, let’s make this happen.”

Starting at 7 p.m. PST on July 10, it’s free and open to the public; you can RSVP and get all the details here. Elliot is expected to give an onstage welcome at 7:30 p.m. By the end of the dance party, a “can’t-miss surprise” is planned to wrap the hip-hop icon’s fun night.

The party, which is set to feature live DJs and Elliott’s tour dancers, coincides with the Out of This World Dance Challenge Elliott recently announced, and takes place ahead of her duo of headlining dates at the Crypto.com Arena on July 11-12. Party on the Plaza is produced by Monami Entertainment and Wright Productions, and sponsored by adidas, PATRÓN EL ALTO Tequila. and Monster Energy.

“As a cultural destination in Los Angeles County where dancing and artistry thrive, The Music Center is proud to be a vital part of Missy Elliott’s OUT OF THIS WORLD Dance Challenge — it is an exciting opportunity to highlight L.A.’s vibrant dance community and encourage people to be creative and connect,” Rachel S. Moore, president and CEO of The Music Center, said in a statement released about the event. “Bring on your best dance moves, Angelenos, and get ready to share them with the world!”

Elliott’s 30-date North American tour kicked off on July 4 with a sold-out concert at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, with DJ Navarris, Timbaland, Ciara and Bust Rhymes featured on the bill.

She’ll next perform Saturday night, July 6, in Seattle, before heading to California. Elliott’s tour, which even with a decades-long career behind her is actually her first headlining run, goes through Aug. 23: see what cities she’ll be heading to on her official website here.

Named a must-see tour by BillboardUPROXXNYLONPitchforkConsequenceNewsdayVIBE, and more, the launch set an electrifying tone for the 29 remaining dates. Starting off with a bang before the megawatt artist’s set, DJ Navarris pumped up the wall-to-wall audience before back-to-back high-octane sets from mega producer Timbaland, Multi-Platinum selling superstar Ciara, and Hip Hop legend Busta Rhymes.

Taylor Swift fans know they’re in for a good time when the Eras Tour mastermind says from the stage, “I’m gonna do one that I’ve never played live before.” Those were the words from Swift’s red lips Friday night (July 5) in Amsterdam, where she debuted “imgonnagetyouback” live during her acoustic set at Johan Cruyff Arena.

“imgonnagetyouback,” the sexy Anthology track about luring in an old flame (found on the 31-song edition of The Tortured Poets Department) starts off with Swift setting the scene: “Lilac short skirt, the one that fits me like skin.” She soon asserts, “I’ll tell you one thing, honey/ I can tell when somebody still wants me, come clean.”

“Whether I’m gonna be your wife, or/ Gonna smash up your bike, I haven’t decided yet/ But I’m gonna get you back,” goes the “imgonnagetyouback” chorus. “Whether I’m gonna curse you out or/ Take you back to my house, I haven’t decidеd yet/ But I’m gonna get you back.”

“I hear thе whispers in your eyes/ I’ll make you wanna think twice/ You’ll find that you were never not mine/ You’re mine,” sang Swift on the Amsterdam stage, acoustic guitar in hand.

In the surprise song section of Swift’s Friday night show, when the hitmaker played “Imgonnagetyouback” live for the first time ever, she made the song even spicier by connecting it to Reputation slow jam “Dress.”

“Say my name and everything just stops/ I don’t want you like a best friend/ Only bought this dress so you could take it off/ Take it off, ah, ah, ah,” she sang in the flirty mashup, making her way from “Dress” back to the “imgonnagetyouback” bridge: “I can feel it coming, humming in the way you move/ Push the reset button, we’re becomin’ something new/ Say you got somebody, I’ll say I got someone too/ Even if it’s handcuffed, I’m leavin’ here with you.”

Post-guitar performance, Swift followed with a love story on piano.

She sang the delicate “You Are in Love,” a deluxe track from the 1989 era, weaved into the dreamy “Cowboy Like Me,” from Evermore.

“You can hear it in the silence/ You can feel it on the way home/ You can see it with the lights out/ You are in love, true love,” Swift reflected from “You are in Love,” before singing about falling for “a cowboy like me.”

“Now you hang from my lips, like the Gardens of Babylon/ With your boots beneath my bed, forever is the sweetest con,” she mused. “You had some tricks up your sleeve/ Takes one to know one.”

Tying the two moments together, she sang, “But you can hear it in the silence/ You can feel it on the way home/ You can see it with the lights out/ You’re a cowboy like me, and you were in love.”

The pop icon, whose The Tortured Poets Department album holds steady at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, has now debuted most of her latest collection’s tracks live on tour. Which songs from the set have yet to get stage time? “So Long, London,” “Florida!!!” feat. Florence + The Machine, “Cassandra” and “Robin.”

Pepe Aguilar is all about tradition, Mexican pride and family, and that’s exactly what takes centerstage at his Jaripeo Hasta Los Huesos Tour.

With back-to-back performances by the Aguilar dynasty, including Antonio Aguilar Jr. (Pepe’s brother), and Leonardo and Ángela Aguilar (Pepe’s children), the show is an homage to the legendary Don Antonio Aguilar, who pioneered the jaripeo-style spectacle back in the ’60s alongside singer and actress Flor Silvestre, his wife and mother to Pepe and Antonio Jr.

“Antonio was a visionary,” Pepe said about his father on Friday, July 5, during a tour stop in Chicago’s Allstate Arena. “To present my family and culture in this way is honestly the best. I don’t do these shows for the money. It’s to honor to my parents and pride for my culture.”

Pepe and his son Leonardo further honored Don Antonio by singing “Bandido de Amores,” his collaboration with another late legend, Joan Sebastian, originally recorded more than 30 years ago. The new version, included in Leonardo’s Soy Como Quiero Ser, a tribute album to Sebastian, recently hit No. 1 on Billboard‘s Regional Mexican Airplay chart (dated July 6).

Before singing it alongside Leonardo, Pepe explained the backstory of how the original collaboration came about. “My dad and Joan didn’t get along,” he said candidly. “But I made them get together for a song. I had to do it. I mean I really admired Joan and, well, Antonio was my dad. And now, 30 years later, I record it with my son, and now it’s No. 1 thanks to you all.”

Leonardo and Antonio Jr. each performed a set of approximately 30 minutes before Ángela took the stage to a roaring crowd, riding a majestic white horse as she wore a gorgeous, long black dress adorned with pink, orange and yellow flowers. She sang “Que Agonía” and the fan-favorite “Dime Como Quieres,” her collaboration with recently-confirmed boyfriend Christian Nodal. “I miss you, my love,” she said in the middle of the song.

Inspired by Mexico’s Día de Muertos, the three-hour show — with a 360-degree-style stage filled with altars, catrinas that come to life and colorful Mexican artesanía — features all four artists singing while horseback riding (no easy feat) and charros who literally risk their lives riding bulls. At one point, one of the Mexican cowboys was kicked by the bull he rode for a competition and had to be taken out on a stretcher. Pepe assured concertgoers he was “fine,” adding, “Thank God nothing major happened and we can go on with the show.”

Pepe was the last to take the stage and did it to a packed house filled with multi-generational families who applauded his commitment to put Mexican music, culture and tradition at the forefront of his shows. His children, who had performed him, watched their father from afar in admiration. “I promise to bring you a different show each year if you let me,” Pepe declared.

After an encore show in Chicago on Saturday (July 6), the Jaripeo Hasta Los Huesos Tour continues with two back-to-back stops in Los Angeles on July 13-14.

Leading all music stocks this week, SiriusXM shares rose as high as $4.14 on Friday (July 5), its highest point since March 13, and closed at $3.71, up 31.1%. The satellite radio company, which also owns music streaming service Pandora and has high hopes for its revamped SiriusXM streaming app, is likely benefitting from an upcoming 10-to-1 reverse stock split and merger with Liberty Media’s SiriusXM Group tracking stock. The merger eliminates any confusion amongst investors by creating only one way to invest in SiriusXM. And although the split doesn’t affect the company’s value, it will increase the share price by reducing the number of shares outstanding. That, in turn, could help SiriusXM’s image with investors and further help prop up the share price.

French streaming company Deezer rose 20.3% to 2.07 euros ($2.25) after it completed a public offering that transferred shares from the professional to the general segment of the Euronext Paris. (The professional segment is dedicated to companies that did not have an initial public offering or sale of shares. Deezer gained entry to the Euronext Paris through a merger with I2PO, a special purpose acquisition company, in 2022.) With that improvement, Deezer’s year-to-date loss improved to 12.3% from 19.2% a week ago. The company will report first-half earnings results on July 30.

The Billboard Global Music Index (BGMI) rose 1.6% to 1,844.87, nearly matching the all-time record of 1,847.64 set the week ended May 17, with the large gains enjoyed by SiriusXM and Deezer helping offset losses by 11 of the index’s 20 stocks. The index’s most valuable companies had small gains this week: Live Nation rose 1.7% to $95.34, Universal Music Group added 0.9% to 28.03 euros ($30.41) and Spotify gained 0.8% to finish at $316.85.

Music stocks couldn’t match many major indexes this week. In the United States, the Nasdaq composite gained 3.5% to 18,352.76 and the S&P 500 rose 2.0% to 5,567.19 — both record closes. Stocks were aided by data released on Friday by the U.S. Labor Department that showed that the economy added more jobs than expected in June while the increase in hourly earnings met expectations. The rise in the unemployment rate rise from 4.0% to 4.1% was a surprise, however.

Internationally, the U.K.’s FTSE 100 improved 0.5% to 8,203.93. South Korea’s KOSPI composite index gained 2.3% to 2,862.23. China’s Shanghai Composite Index dropped 0.6% to 2,949.93.

Sphere Entertainment Co. improved 6.8% to $37.43, bringing its year-to-date gain to 10.1%. On Wednesday (July 3), the company announced it had given executive chairman/CEO James Dolan a new three-year employment contract that runs through June 30, 2027. That ensures Dolan will continue to oversee the growth of Sphere in Las Vegas and additional locations the company will target. Looking ahead, Dead & Company’s 30-show residency at the venue concludes on Aug. 10 while the Eagles will begin a 16-date residency — eight weekends of Friday and Saturday concerts — on Sept. 20.

Music streaming company LiveOne fell 14.6% to $1.34, putting the stock down 4.3% year to date. On Monday (July 1), the company announced a partnership with Seekr to build an AI-powered search engine for beats and sounds. The platform, expected to launch by the end of the year, is intended to help creators and music licensors.

Korean companies continued to struggle this week. HYBE fell 2.5% to 197,400 won ($143.30), bringing its year-to-date loss to 15.5%. SM Entertainment fell 3.5% to 77,600 won ($56.33) and has fallen 15.7% in 2024. Two K-pop companies not in the Billboard Global Music Index fared even worse: JYP Entertainment, home to TWICE and Stray Kids, dropped 2.8% to 55,700 won ($40.43) and has fallen 45% this year; while YG Entertainment, home to BLACKPINK and BABYMONSTER, sank 5.3% to 38,150 won ($27.69) and has lost 25% year to date.

Camila Cabello celebrated the Fourth of July at billionaire Michael Rubin’s annual White Party in the Hamptons, and she took to Instagram to share a series of snaps from the star-studded bash.

In the photos, the “I Luv It” singer is seen posing in a white backless top and matching maxi skirt, with her newly blonde hair in a messy updo. In one of the pictures, she’s sitting in a chair opposite Drake, who’s smiling from ear-to-ear while enjoying a cocktail.

See the photos here.

Drake recently appeared on two tracks on Camila Cabello’s recently released album, C,XOXO: “Hot Uptown” and “Uuugly.”

Cabello opened up about collaborating with Drizzy in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, noting that it all started in the DMs. “I feel like, at least from what I know of myself, I feel like we’re musically aligned in a lot of ways,” she said of herself and Drake. “I think we have a lot of the same taste, and lyrically as well. I actually slid into his DMs too, and I was like, ‘I’ve been listening to you so much for this album,’ a lot of the wordplay and my aspiration for bars.”

She continued, “I DMed him and then I played him my album and he f—d with it. I sent the idea for ‘Hot Uptown,’ and I wrote my part. I sent it back to him, and we chopped it to it felt like a duet. Then when he re-worked on his parts again, he gave me an outro which was the ‘UUUgly part,’” she recalled.

Tommy Richman became a household name with “Million Dollar Baby” almost instantaneously upon its April arrival. Over two months later, with his breakout anthem remaining a chart staple, the DMV native delivered a visual to the catchy hit on Friday (July 5).

Richman and his team mobbed across the world for the video shoot, which took place in Los Angeles, Paris and his home state of Virginia.

The 24-year-old makes it rain in the nightclub and then hangs out in front of the Eiffel Tower before also heading to the very Queen’s Gambit in Virginia that he name-drops on “Million Dollar Baby.” Although, from a style standpoint, Richman reps the Big Apple with a New York Jacket and signature Yankees fitted cap.

Tommy adds the VHS effect to give the clip an edgier and vintage aesthetic through the fish-eye lens. He released a VHS-styled version of “Million Dollar Baby,” which some fans preferred to listen to the rougher cut.

“It was the combination of the sound of the VHS camera, the vibe of the people in the studio, how short the snippet was and how in your face the audio was,” Richman told Billboard of his smash catching fire on TikTok before is release. “The audio is really loud. I compare the audio to my other TikToks, and the one snippet is in your face. I think that’s why it caught on.”

“Million Dollar Baby” exploded onto the music scene upon its April 26 arrival and has been ubiquitous since. The track debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and currently sits at No. 6 in its ninth week on the chart.

The banger has also continued to be a viral force on social media as “Million Dollar Baby” spends an eighth week atop the TikTok Billboard Top 50, a new record.

Looking to shed the one-hit wonder label, Tommy Richman followed-up “Baby” with “Devil Is a Lie” in June, which boosted to No. 35 on this week’s Hot 100. He’s currently hard at work finishing up his debut album, Coyote.

Amy Winehouse was portrayed by Marisa Abela in the much-buzzed about biopic, Back to Black, which hit theaters back in May. The film is now heading to streaming services, and is available to watch on Peacock beginning on Friday (July 5).

The biopic follows the life of the beloved Grammy winner, who is best known for her groundbreaking sophomore album Back to Black, which included the Hot 100 hits “Rehab” and “You Know I’m No Good.” Winehouse, who battled drug and alcohol addiction, died in 2011 at age 27 from alcohol poisoning.

The Studio Canal film directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson (A Million Little Pieces) and written by Matt Greenhalgh (Nowhere Boy) was made with the support of the Winehouse estate, Universal Music Group and Sony Music Publishing and features a number of the singer’s most beloved hits.

Iain Cooke, the film’s music supervisor, worked closely with Abela as well as Winehouse’s former band and her estate to capture the late superstar’s unique musical essence on film. See below for Billboard‘s chat with Cooke on all things Back to Black, and catch the film on Peacock now.

Bring me back to when you got the call to be the music supervisor on the biopic. What was it like?

It was it was really exciting. I also saw it immediately as a challenge, and one that would be sort of a journey to bring to life. I actually came on board 10 months before we shot — a long, long time before and there was only really the director, the producers and the writer. They hadn’t crewed up because it wasn’t officially greenlit. The first thing I was tasked with doing was to actually negotiate the rights for the Amy songs in order for the film to get greenlit and that was that was quite an intense few months negotiating. Once we got the approval, we began to prep.

We put Marisa in with a team, a vocal coach and a guitar tutor to work on the material and then we brought on our music producer, Giles Martin, who did a wonderful job. It was really an amazing process from pre-prep through the shoot, through the post production and the edit and on all the way to the final mix. It was about two years work.

What was it like working with Marisa to capture Amy’s unique essence?

She honestly was phenomenal. I’ve got nothing but praise and admiration for her because she works so hard. She was a complete joy to work with and really positive and she just immersed herself in it. She had phenomenal pitch and timing and she just really studied Amy as an artist and also studied some of her influences. She was great.

How do you preserve the authenticity of such a sensitive and widely told story?

All the filmmakers and collaborators involved just felt really passionate about the story and wanted to be the guardians of that authenticity. It was really important to preserve the integrity of her legacy and we all wanted to do the right thing by her. One of the things that we did was we approached her old live band early on — and we would have completely understood if they didn’t want to be involved — but we approached them to see whether they would like to come in and pre-record the live backing tracks and they did. It was just incredibly special and incredibly moving. It was her real band that played that those gigs who pre-recorded the music, and you can’t get more authentic than that.

Is there a scene in the film that you’re excited for people to see?

There’s a moment very early on in the film that Marisa sings ‘What Is It About Men’ — she’s just in her bedroom and it’s just a one-shot with nothing to hide behind. We knew that if we got that moment right, that the audience would be really in the film with us and in the journey. Marisa just did incredible.

I also absolutely love Glastonbury. You know, credit to the sound team. They did an amazing job in the mix. If you watch it, you get that spirit. You know, it’s wild and free. Chaotic, but just the energy of it is magic. Amy was one of the most important recording artists of all time, and she’ll stand up in history alongside the greats that influenced her. She had lyrical wit and one of the greatest recording voices and most distinctive recording voices on record. I hope that we’ll go back and listen to her again, and rediscover and keep listening to her because she’s a classic forevermore.

Lastly, what’s your favorite Amy Winehouse song?

“Love Is a Losing Game.” It’s a timeless, beautiful song.
