Pentatonix is getting into the holiday spirit during their live concerts, and to show fans just how much, the group brought out none other than Joey Fatone for one of their recent shows — part of the group’s The Most Wonderful Tour of the Year trek — to sing *NSYNC‘s holiday hit, “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays.”

The video starts with the a cappella group singing the title of the song on the into, until member Scott Hoyin takes a moment to tell the audience, “And we have special guest, *NSYNC’s Joey Fatone, everyone!” Fatone then came onto the stage in a red leather jacket to sing the track’s first verse: “We’ve been waiting/ All year for this night/ And the snow is glistening on the trees outside/ And all the stockings/ Are hung by the fireside/ Waiting for Santa to arrive.”

“This was ICONIC!!! Thank you @realjoeyfatone, you are amazing!,” the group captioned the video, shared on Wednesday (Dec. 20) to Instagram.

Fans were equally excited to see Fatone on stage — one fan in the comments section of the post wrote, “Just as my old teenage “*NSYNC mania” self was about to calm down after being revived after the VMAs and Trolls, y’all just want to make me act up again!!!” Another excited fan added, “Omg how did Joey not get more solos when he was in *NSYNC? Amazing!!!”

There may have been a bit of a generational divide amongst audience members, as one shared, “I was here and absolutely lost my mind. I almost cried. The younger girls behind me said ‘Who is that!?’”

Watch Fatone join the members of Pentatonix in the the video below.

SiriusXM is facing a lawsuit from New York’s attorney general over allegations that the satellite radio and streaming service has made it “extremely difficult” for listeners to cancel their subscriptions.

In a complaint filed Wednesday (Dec. 20) in Manhattan court, Attorney General Letitia James’ office accused SiriusXM of subjecting canceling customers to “a lengthy and burdensome endurance contest,” which allegedly requires phone conversations with a live agent and extended time spent on hold.

Related

“Sirius deliberately wastes its subscribers’ time even though it has the ability to process cancellations with the click of a button,” attorneys from James’ office wrote in the lawsuit. “The only reason Sirius requires cancelling subscribers to interact with a live agent at all is to maximize its opportunity to retain them as subscribers.”

In a statement announcing the lawsuit, James said it followed an investigation that showed SiriusXM was “trapping consumers” with its cancellation process, including by training its employees “not take ‘no’ for an answer.”

“Having to endure a lengthy and frustrating process to cancel a subscription is a stressful burden no one looks forward to, and when companies make it hard to cancel subscriptions, it’s illegal,” James said. “Consumers should be able to cancel a subscription they no longer use or need without any issues, and companies have a legal duty to make their cancellation process easy.”

Following the filing of the lawsuit, a spokeswoman for SiriusXM said the company would “vigorously defend against these baseless allegations,” saying that they “grossly mischaracterize” its practices.

“It’s telling that the New York Attorney General issued a press release before providing SiriusXM with a copy of the complaint,” the company statement said. “Like a number of consumer businesses, we offer a variety of options for customers to sign up for or cancel their SiriusXM subscription.”

According to the new lawsuit, SiriusXM automatically renews subscriptions at the end of a term unless a user calls on the phone to cancel. The lawsuit claims that users are sometimes forced to wait as long as 25 minutes just to connect with an agent, who then subject them to a “six-part script” in which they are trained to repeatedly refuse to actually terminate the subscription.

“Sirius requires its live agents to present a series of renewal offers to retain the consumer as a subscriber,” the AG’s office wrote in the lawsuit. “But when a consumer declines an offer, or refuses to hear further offers, Sirius instructs its agents not to take ‘no’ for an answer.”

By doing so, SiriusSM forces subscribers to “devote inordinate amounts of time, patience, and stamina trying to cancel a subscription they no longer wish to pay for,” the lawsuit says, even though they have a “legal and contractual right to cancel anytime using a process that is simple and efficient.”

Brandy‘s latest album, Christmas With Brandy, arrived just in time for the holiday season on Nov. 10. Featuring soulful takes on holiday classics — “Jingle Bells,” “Deck the Halls” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” — and a teamup with her 21-year-old daughter, Sy’Rai, the Moesha star sat down with Billboard News to talk about the latest addition to her discography.

“I love Christmas, and I love Christmas carols and so I can’t believe it’s my first [Christmas album],” she tells Gail Mitchell, Billboard‘s executive director, R&B/hip-hop. “I had a great team of people to work with me, producers … one of the writers is Sebastian Cole, Tatiana Clark, India Carney. They helped me put my own spin on the classics and help me put together some originals that I’m really proud of.”

The albums contains 12 tracks, but according to Brandy, there’s some material that didn’t make the cut that could lend well to another project. “There will be songs left on the table for sure that can be part of a regular album that doesn’t necessarily have to be a Christmas album,” she explains.

Brandy’s daughter Sy’Rai makes a cameo on the record in “Christmas Gift,” a song that the 44-year-old feels proud of, as her daughter wants to follow in her footsteps. “I love the melody and I just thought our voices would sound great together,” she gushes. “And I just love working with her. I love seeing her blossom into this beautiful flower, this beautiful artist and just someone that really loves music.”

Speaking of her daughter’s musical aspirations, Brandy notes that she feels “so complete just knowing [Sy’Rai’s] doing something she loves, and she has so much passion. Music is her life, and I’ve never met that in anyone else like that but myself. It means everything to her, just like how much it meant to me.” It helps having a recording artist for a mother to glean advice from, and in the interview, Brandy says she’s advised Sy’Rai to not follow anyone — “she has her own path, her own destiny created for her by the most high, and she just needs to follow that.”

As for her follow up to 2020’s B7, Brandy says that she’s looking to get started on her next project sometime soon. “I would love to start working on B8, that’s in the plan for sure,” she shares.

The huge week for Nicki Minaj and her Pink Friday 2 album includes a milestone achievement on Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs chart, where she captures her 50th top 10 on the genre list, tying for the third-most among all acts. The superstar hits the mark thanks to three new tracks from Pink Friday 2, which debuts at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 and Top Rap Albums charts.

With the trio’s showing in the top tier, Minaj ties Kanye West for the third-most top 10s on Hot Rap Songs, which launched in 1989. A pair of familiar names are the only acts with more than 50 appearances in the upper region – Minaj’s frequent collaborators, Drake (133) and Lil Wayne (54).

133, Drake
54, Lil Wayne

50, Kanye West
44, Lil Baby

No. 12, “Beep Beep”
No. 16, “Big Difference”
No. 17, “Fallin 4 U”
No. 18, “RNB,” featuring Lil Wayne & Tate Kobang
No. 20, “Pink Friday Girls”
No. 23, “Cowgirl,” featuring Lourdiz
No. 24, “Pink Birthday”
No. 25, “Bahm Bahm”

Plus, previous single “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” which topped Hot Rap Songs for one week in March, returns at No. 22 following streaming and sales activity from the parent album’s release.

As mentioned above, Pink Friday 2 opens at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and Top Rap Albums charts with 228,000 equivalent album units earned in the tracking week of Dec. 8 – 14, according to Luminate. The launch, notably, became Minaj’s third champ on the Billboard 200 – a new record among female rappers.

Jason Momoa got in the holiday spirit on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Monday (Dec. 18), taking part in a festive rendition of the talk show’s popular game segment, “Sing That Name That Tune.”

In the game, hosted by audience hype man Rubin, the contestants must step up on the platform when they recognize the song the band is playing, and get points not only for singing the song correctly but also for the level of excitement in their performance.

In the first two rounds, Momoa didn’t stand a chance against Clarkson, who immediately began belting out “Deck the Halls” and “Jingle Bells.” However, the Aquaman star stepped it up in the third round, and while he didn’t know the lyrics to “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” he delivered a hyped-up performance, complete with dance moves and venue-shaking vocals. As a result, he ended up tying the game going into the last round.

Both Clarkson and Momoa recognized and performed “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” at the same time, giving Rubin a tough decision when it came down to the tiebreaker. However, when Momoa put his hand on Rubin’s shoulder, the hype man ended up swooning and giving the win to Aquaman.

As a result, Momoa ripped open hit shirt to reveal a tank underneath, and ran around the studio in celebration. Watch it all go down below.

Groundbreaking Los Angeles-based disc jockey Jim Ladd, whom Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers immortalized in their 2002 song “The Last DJ,” died suddenly Sunday of a heart attack. He was 75.

A Los Angeles fixture, Ladd worked up and down the Los Angeles radio dial, including stints at KNAC, KMET and KLOS. He was considered the last freeform DJ in the country, allowed to pick his own song selections.

Related

After leaving KLOS in 2011, he was quickly picked up by SiriusXM’s Deep Tracks channel, where he appeared until his death. Over the decades, he was well known for his interviews with such artists as John Lennon, Pink Floyd,  Stevie Nicks and Led Zeppelin.

The Doors drummer John Densmore paid tribute to Ladd on social media, posting on X, “’The Last DJ’ has crossed the tracks. There wasn’t a more soulful spinner of music. The songs he played were running through his blood, he cared so much for rock n’ roll. Irreplaceable… a very sad day, which can only be handled by carrying his spirit forward.”

Densmore’s Doors bandmate Robby Krieger also posted, “Rest in peace, Jim Ladd. He was the best friend in radio The Doors ever had. Even when people forgot about us in the late ‘70s, he kept playing our music.“

Ladd started his career  at Long Beach, Calif.’s KNAC in 1969 as FM radio was burgeoning and quickly established himself as one of Southern California’s leading rock voices. In an undated interview with Michael Simone, he said of his mentors and being at the forefront of FM radio, “We were inventing this thing as we were going along, so what I would say in radio [for role models], it is pretty much everybody that I’ve worked with that I’ve learned from or borrowed from. … As far as role models in my life, Martin Luther King would be one, and certainly when I was growing up, John Lennon and Jim Morrison were two others who had a great influence on me, as well as [Roger] Waters.”

Waters and Ladd had a long friendship, with Ladd playing a rebel DJ on Waters’ 1987 Radio K.A.O.S. album and touring with Waters on the Radio K.A.O.S. On the Road outing.

From KNAC, Ladd moved to KLOS in 1971 and then had stops at Los Angeles stations KMET, KMPC and KLSX before returning to KLOS in 1997, where he stayed for 14 years. As Billboard reported in 2011, when he was let go from KLOS after Cumulus bought the station, he signed off with Pink Floyd’s “Shine On Your Crazy Diamond.”

Ladd inspired “The Last DJ” song, which Petty told journalist Jim DeRogatis was “about a DJ who becomes so frustrated with his inability to play what he wants that he moves to Mexico and gets his freedom back.”

Flowers will be placed on Ladd’s star on the  Hollywood Walk of Fame at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. He received his star in 2005. “His legendary voice and unparalleled contribution to the world of radio have left an indelible mark on the industry,” Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremonies, stated in a statement. “Jim’s passion for music and his unique ability to connect with his listeners will always be remembered fondly.”

SiriusXM is airing tributes to Ladd, who is survived by wife Helene, on Deep Tracks as well as other classic rock channels.
