French Montana stopped by Billboard News to talk about the creation of his new film, For Khadija, the rise of Afrobeats, his thoughts on reality TV and more!
French Montana:
Never follow people that got all the answers. Follow people that got all the questions. What up? What up? It’s your boy, French Montana, and you’re watching Billboard News!
Rania Aniftos:
Hey, everybody! It’s Rania Aniftos with Billboard News, and I’m here with Grammy-nominated rapper and Billboard chart-topper French Montana. So we’re here to talk about such an incredible project that you’ve been working on and it’s finally going to see the light of day, For Khadija. An incredible documentary! Why was now the right time to tell such an intimate story?
French Montana:
I’m about to put you on the story. See, I’m really from Africa. You know going through everything I went through in my career, I feel like it finally makes sense. It’s a story, beginning to end of a chapter. It was a chapter when my mother came here, sacrificed for us, and went back after 25 years. And it felt like that was like the closure of us coming, me struggling in the Bronx, not knowing English, being culture shock about the whole move that we made, my father and my mother, him leaving, us getting on welfare and struggling, then for me to be French Montana. My mother didn’t see her family for, like, 25 years.
Rania Aniftos:
And it’s true. I mean, spotlighting immigrant voices in that way is so unique, especially when people might see you and they’re like, “Oh, he’s French Montana. What struggles could he have had?” But you have this whole incredible story leading up to this point.
French Montana:
Exactly. It’s showing people all the hurdles and taking all the wounds. You know? One thing about the wounds, that’s where the light enters, showing people if you only work on sunny days, you’ll never reach your destination.

Measuring less than 1.2 inches tall and just 1 inch in diameter (or about the size of a quarter), the tiny speaker slips easily into your pockets so that you’re never too far from your tunes.
The mini speaker pairs easily to your device via Bluetooth, with a range of up to 36 feet. While you won’t get the same big audio as regular speakers, the tiny speaker delivers decent sound for its size (up to 90 decibels to be exact, which is comparable to the sound generated by a lawnmower or power tools).
A single charge gets you up to three hours of playtime. You can also leave it plugged in via the included micro-USB port to keep the music going.

Everything is controlled via a simple on/off button at the top of the speaker. The button doubles as a remote shutter to take pictures when paired with your camera phone.
With its tiny size and weighing under 60 grams, Amazon calls this the world’s “smallest Bluetooth speaker.” Reviewers love the small size and ease of use, and the speaker currently has a solid 4-star review (out of five) from dozens of shoppers online.

French Montana stepped into the world of filmmaking at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival, where he premiered his touching documentary about the unbreakable bond he shares with his single mother. To celebrate, the rapper sat down with Billboard‘s Rania Aniftos to discuss the doc, titled For Khadija.
“Going through everything that I went through in my career, it felt like it finally made sense,” the Morocco-born artist reveals as to why he decided to make the documentary. “It’s a story from the beginning to the end of a chapter. It’s a chapter where my mother, sacrificed for us and then went back after 25 years. I feel like that was the closure of us coming, me struggling in the Bronx, not knowing English, being culture shocked by the whole move that we made.”
He continued, “One thing about the wounds, that’s where the light enters. It’s showing people that if you only work on sunny days, you’ll never reach your destination.”
He also opened up about navigating a private life amid being in the spotlight, especially back during his 2013 relationship with Khloe Kardashian. “I just go with my groove. I also don’t like nothing that have to do with reality TV. I don’t like nothing that have to do with anything besides my music to be publicized. When you broadcast that, it just takes away for why I’m really here.”

Looks like Troye Sivan has got a new celebrity crush, and he’s playfully made a plea to his followers on Thursday (June 15) to help reach out to him.
While teasing his upcoming single “Rush,” the singer posted a thirst trap fan edit of Stray Kids‘ Hyunjin, in which the 23-year-old K-pop star is seen dancing onstage in slow motion. “I feel the rush / Addicted to your touch,” the chorus of the unreleased song chants over a thumping beat to accompany the video.
“Anyone know how to reach this man,” Sivan hilariously captioned the clip. Watch it here.
So far, there’s no update on Sivan’s quest to find Hyunjin, but in the meantime, the Australian star has been teasing his first full-length album in five years. “It’s not lost on me that some of you guys have been following along since i was the kid w the stye in my eye in that first video,” The Idol captioned a series of videos posted to Instagram last week. “Btw — I didn’t mean to take 5 years to make this album.”
“Enough excuses now. Enough saying ‘soon’ [upside down smile emoji] this is for YOU and it starts NOWWW,” he wrote. “I love you from the bottom of my heart.”
While he didn’t reveal any more information about the upcoming album, his third project will mark a follow-up to 2018’s Bloom.
