Britney Spears is loving Justin Bieber‘s discography! The pop princess took to Instagram on Monday (Oct. 3) to share a video of herself dancing to the 28-year-old crooner’s Don Toliver collaboration, “Honest,” as well as Rihanna‘s “Love on the Brain.”

“TB to Maui – 2 weeks ago times flies [winking emojis] !!!” she captioned the self-recorded clip. “Different edit of me with Justin Bieber song … ‘Honest’ !!! Not sure what the animation is for [surprised emojis] … either way the song is hot … and different edit of SOS … me doing my thang !!!”

After seemingly checking out a few comments that pointed out her spin-heavy choreography, Spears poked fun at the trolls by sharing the Oxford dictionary definition of “spinner.” “Yes!!! That’s me [pointing emojis] The Spinner !!!” she captioned the follow-up post.

This isn’t the first time Spears has shown her love for Bieber. While vacationing in Hawaii recently, the “Piece of Me” singer soundtracked a number of her scenic, happy Instagram posts with various JB tracks, including “Holy” with Chance the Rapper and “Attention” with Omah Lay. She also shared another dancing clip while in Maui spinning around to her own song “Get Naked” before diving into some more “Honest” choreography.

Last month, Spears gushed over Maui — which she has visited a number of times — in a since-deleted Instagram post. The “Me Against the Music” singer wrote that the Hawaiian island “never gets old,” adding, “I find my inner goddess!!! I sweat, cry, run, swim, and play!!!! Mother Nature speaks to me in a different way !!! I feel like I’m guided to where my heart flies!!! Life can be so crazy!!! So in times like this I reel it in to find my grounds and pray !!! Sitting still and listening to my voice within!!! I meditate everyday and try to understand the meaning of self love.”

A home where entertainers Mark and Donnie Wahlberg’s family once lived was damaged by fire Sunday (Oct. 2) in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood, the fire department said.

The blaze began in a nearby home at around 10 a.m., but spread to another three buildings because of strong winds, Fire Commissioner Paul Burke said. Two firefighters suffered injuries and one resident was taken to the hospital. There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire.

One of the homes involved was 25 Peverell Street, where the Wahlberg family used to live. Mark Wahlberg visited the home during the production of his Netflix movie Wonderland in 2018 and 2019. In one video posted on social media, the actor stands shirtless in front of the house, describing it as “where it all started.”

The homes affected by Sunday’s fire were a type of classic Boston architecture called a triple decker, a three-family home that’s common in the city.

“It was a total of four three-deckers that were on fire, mostly in the rear of the buildings on the porches,” the fire commissioner told WCVB-TV. “It’s a very tight street.”

Boston Fire Department spokesperson Brian Alkins said 15 people were displaced by the fire. He estimated damage to the buildings at $2 million.

BMG says it will start generating one billion euros in revenue starting in 2024, achieving a financial target the company set for itself a full two years ahead of schedule, according to a corporate presentation made last week.

The record label and publisher improved its growth forecast thanks to strategic investments from parent company Bertelsmann and a strong performance from several recently acquired song catalogs, BMG chief executive Hartwig Masuch told a gathering of senior Bertelsmann executives.

Meeting its billion-euro goal will make BMG one of the fastest-growing new music companies in the industry, executives said.

Founded in 2008, BMG generated 663 million euros ($784.13 million) in revenues in 2021, a 10.1% increase from 2020. In the first half of 2022, the company reported revenues grew 25% to 371 million euros ($405.7 million, based on an average exchange rate over the first six months) compared to the period a year ago.

By comparison, Korean music company HYBE, home to K-pop superstars BTS, has reported revenue for the first half of 2022 totaled 797.2 billion KRW ($623.7 million). There are concerns that HYBE’s growth for the second half of the year may be dented by BTS’s “hiatus,” which the band announced on June 14.

Bertelsmann has said it would invest between five billion and seven billion euros in BMG, beginning in 2021 and continuing through 2025. In addition, BMG announced a partnership with private equity firm KKR last March, which could bring in as much as $1 billion in joint investment capital to buy song catalogs.

Some of the early results of that partnership included BMG and KKR acquiring music rights from John Legend and ZZ Top. Separately, BMG acquired an extensive portfolio of Tina Turner rights and the entire Mötley Crüe master recording catalog in 2021. Terms of those deals were not disclosed.

Speaking at the Bertelsmann gathering, Masuch said the company’s investments accelerate BMG’s core strategy, and that meeting this billion-euro goal will translate to a 15-year compound annual growth rate of 36%.

Ciara‘s new song featuring Summer Walker has topped this week’s new music poll.

Music fans voted in a poll published Friday (Sept. 30) on Billboard, choosing “Better Thangs” as their favorite new music release of the past week.

Ciara and Walker’s R&B jam brought in more than 62% of the vote, beating out new music by Ed Sheeran, Kid Cudi, Paramore and more.

Ciara and Walker’s delightful meeting for “Better Thangs” brings on the positive vibes: Ciara described it to Billboard as “a feel-good record” that she hopes “people hear and feel inspired by.”

“For me, joy is the ultimate feeling that I was feeling [when creating ‘Better Thangs’], and I wanted for people to feel that with this record,” she said.

“She laid her vocals on the song, and as soon as I heard it, I was like, ‘This is special,’” Ciara said of Walker’s contribution to the track. “It felt so good. It’s two friends jamming out to a song together, which is super sweet.”

Trailing behind the new release from Ciara on the fan-voted poll is Sheeran’s new track “Celestial” — a partnership with Pokémon — with 19% of the vote, and Kid Cudi’s Entergalactic album, with 5% of the vote.

Serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer’s name has been woven into the lyrics of a number of songs over the years, from tracks recorded by Katy Perry and Eminem to Kesha‘s 2010 track “Cannibal.” In response to recent controversy discussed on social media regarding pop culture references to Dahmer, Kesha’s mother, Pebe Sebert — a songwriter and non-profit founder who has a co-writing credit on “Cannibal” — says she’s the one who wrote the lyric “I’ll pull a Jeffrey Dahmer.”

“The whole Jeffrey Dahmer lyric in ‘Cannibal’ is a big controversy right now, and I thought I’d just say a few things about it because that was my line that I wrote in ‘Cannibal.’” Sebert said in a TikTok video uploaded on Sunday (Oct. 2). She filmed herself in Panama, where she was on her way to an event put on by her non-profit organization, The Magic Mission.

“At the time, Kesha and the other writer were too young to even know who Jeffrey Dahmer was. Literally the way it happened was I have this rhyming program called MasterWriter for songwriters. We were looking for a rhyme for ‘goner.’ At the very end of the widest rhymes was ‘Jeffrey Dahmer.’ And I was like, ‘Oh my god, that’s the perfect lyric,’” she said.

“Not to be insensitive to anybody whose families were involved in this and lost loved ones,” said Sebert. “At the time, it was a song that we were writing about Kesha. Kesha was not the most popular girl in high school. She ended up not even getting asked to the prom. Later on, when she got famous, all these guys that, you know, never paid any attention to her were coming around and like, ‘Remember me? Remember me?’ And she was like, ‘Yeah, now that I’m famous you’re up my anus.’ It was a tongue-in-cheek, funny song. It was not actually about cannibalism. It was just a title.”

Netflix released Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, starring Evan Peters as Dahmer, on Sept. 21. The Ryan Murphy- and Ian Brennan-created limited series topped the streamer’s top 10 list the week of its release. Between 1978 and 1991, Dahmer gruesomely murdered 17 men; family members of Dahmer’s victims have criticized Netflix for profiting off of their tragic stories.

In her TikTok clip about “Cannibal,” Sebert said: “I’m sorry for anyone who’s lost a family member in this tragedy. We certainly never meant to hurt anybody or make anybody feel bad. There’s a movie [Netflix’s Dahmer limited series] out right now that’s kind of bringing attention back. That song’s been out for more than 10 years, probably almost 12 years. This is not something that we’d recently written.”

The song is featured on Kesha’s 2010 EP of the same name, which followed that year’s release of her debut full-length album, Animal. The Cannibal EP also included songs like “Blow” and “We R Who We R.”

“Once again, Jeffrey Dahmer’s name wouldn’t even be in the song if it wasn’t for the MasterWriter that threw his name up there because he was a person who became famous, unfortunately, because of what he did. Jeffrey Dahmer was just part of the culture back then. Everybody talked about him for many years. What he had done was so extreme and so worse than anything anyone had ever done that anybody knew about,” Sebert said.

Besides being a songwriter, Sebert is founder of The Magic Mission, which she launched in September to better the lives of street dogs.

According to the organization’s website, The Magic Mission is dedicated to stopping the overpopulation, abuse and homelessness of dogs and cats in Latin America through orchestrating and funding sterilization blitzes (Sebert explains exactly how those events operate in this TikTok video), health services, and community education. Apple held the first screening for Will Smith and Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming filmEmancipation, on Saturday (Oct. 1) in Washington D.C. Though the fate of the project seemingly hung in the balance following Smith’s now-infamous Oscars slap, the screening indicates Apple is looking to release it soon.

At the 2022 Oscars, Smith walked onstage during the ceremony and surprised the world when he slapped presenter Chris Rock, who had made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Since then, Smith has resigned from the Academy, some of his projects have been put on hold, and he has apologized to Rock, Rock’s family, his fellow Oscar winners and more.

Apple and NAACP hosted the Emancipation screening during the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 51st Annual Legislative Conference for representatives from the Congressional Black Caucus, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, the Divine 9 (Historically Black Fraternities and Sororities), National Council of Negro Women, National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, Power Rising and #WinWithBlackWomen, among other social impact leaders.

It was followed by a conversation about the film with Fuqua, Will Smith and Mary Elliott, curator of American Slavery at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, moderated by politics and culture commentator Angela Rye.

“Throughout my career, I’ve turned down many films that were set in slavery,” Smith said at the screening. “I never wanted to show us like that. And then this picture came along. And this is not a film about slavery. This is a film about freedom. This is a film about resilience. This is a film about faith.”

He continued, “This is a film about the heart of a man — what could be called the first viral image. Cameras had just been created, and the image of whipped Peter went around the world. It was a rallying cry against slavery, and this was a story that exploded and blossomed in my heart that I wanted to be able to deliver to you in a way that only Antoine Fuqua could deliver.”

Based on a true story, Emancipation follows Peter (Smith), who runs away from his plantation in search of his family, outwitting cold-blooded hunters and surviving the Louisiana swamps along the way. Peter eventually joins the Union Army. During a medical examination, his bare back, which had scars on it from a near-fatal whipping at the hands of his former plantation’s overseer, was photographed. The Independent published the photo, undoubtedly proving the cruelty and barbarity of slavery in America.

Fuqua directed and executive produced Emancipation from a script by William N. Collage. The film is produced by Smith and Jon Mone through Westbrook Studios, Joey McFarland through McFarland Entertainment and Todd Black through Escape Artists. Chris Brigham, James Lassiter, Heather Washington, Cliff Roberts, Glen Basner and Scott Greenberg are executive producing.

Doja Cat debuted a striking look at Paris Fashion Week.

Doja — who has been keeping fans on their toes lately when it comes to teasing what her next album will sound like — played around with her style this weekend in Paris. She attended Mônot’s spring/summer show on Saturday (Oct. 1) wearing an all-black ensemble accessorized with arm makeup resembling sleek gloves, white and blue face makeup, and bright red lips.

The makeup look was created by artist Laurel Charleston.

“Hand, arm and face makeup on @DojaCat for Mônot by me,” Charleston, who’s worked with Doja previously, tweeted on Saturday.

When a follower commented, “I had to zoom in to even notice they weren’t actual gloves. Killed it,” Charleston wrote back, “That was the goal hehe.” Later, the artist noted, “To clarify, she’s not wearing gloves it’s all makeup.”

Doja shared a few selfies of her painted face, captioned with a crescent moon emoji, on Twitter after showing off a different look for a Vivienne Westwood show earlier on Instagram. Her appearance at Paris Fashion Week also included a performance at a Kenzo event. See her latest selfies below.

Post Malone, who’s “ready to keep rocking and rolling” after a recent stage fall and some hospital time, opened up a bit about his family life in a new interview.

The artist casually announced the birth of his daughter in June, noting that he intends to keep most details about his child private. “I want to let her make her own decisions,” he explained at the time.

In an interview with GQ published on Friday (Sept. 30), Malone brought up his 4-month-old while talking about his collaboration with Moose Knuckles for a collection that includes children’s sizes.

“It’s really tough not being able to see her, but she’s coming out more often now,” he said of being on tour. “She’s huge, she’s super tall, and she’s such a legend and I’m just happy to see her. But it is heartbreaking having to leave and not be able to be with her all the time.”

He commented that he “can’t tell yet” whether his little one enjoys his tunes.

“She hasn’t cried whenever I put my music on so far, which I think is a good sign, but we’ll wait and find out,” said Malone. “I got to let her decide. I tried to play her some stuff but I can’t really tell what she’s into right now. She’s going to have to like my music, I think, [or] she’s going to get used to it — I know everybody at the house plays it for her and hopefully, they’ll get stuck in her head. Kids love my music for some reason, which is awesome, so I’m hoping that she just goes with the flow on that one.”

One thing he probably doesn’t mind missing out on while he’s busy on stage?

“The blowouts,” he said, when asked about the craziest part of new parenthood. “She will blow out sometimes and it’ll come right outside of her pants. The poop will just be dripping out and I’m like, ‘What the hell happened?’ That’s how I know it definitely is my daughter — not that I have blowouts, but that I know my way around a toilet.”

Malone was forced to cancel a concert in Boston a week ago when he was experiencing “a stabbing pain whenever I breathe or move.” The health scare — which came a week after he took a nasty spill on stage at a St. Louis show — brought him to the hospital.

“We took a good three days off, we started healing up,” he said this week in his chat with GQ. “They gave me good medicine, all the lidocaine patches and everything, so I’m feeling a whole lot better.”
