Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced on Monday (Aug. 15) that A$AP Rocky has been charged in connection to an alleged shooting in Los Angeles in November 2021.

The rapper, born Rakim Mayers, faces two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm with allegations of personally using a firearm. “Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offense that could have ended with tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood,” Gascón said in a news release. “My office conducted a thorough review of the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a special firearm allegation was warranted.”

The rapper is set to be arraigned on Wednesday (Aug. 17).

Rocky was detained in connection with an investigation by the LAPD into a non-fatal shooting in Hollywood on Nov. 6 and released on $550,000 bond. An argument escalated between the rapper and his acquaintance, leading to Rocky allegedly firing a semi-automatic handgun. The victim sustained a minor injury, according to KTLA.

At the time of the arrest, Rocky was in the process of returning to Los Angeles on a private plane after a vacation in Barbados with Rihanna, according to reports by NBC News and TMZ.

In 2019, Rocky was arrested and charged with assault in Sweden, with prosecutors alleging that the victim was punched, kicked and attacked with a bottle. He spent nearly five weeks in behind bars before being released, though he was later found guilty.

The rapper and Rihanna welcomed their first child together, a boy, on May 13. The pair started dating in 2020, and the “Umbrella” singer announced her pregnancy in January.

Travis Barker went back on tour with Machine Gun Kelly, and Kourtney Kardashian was right by her husband’s side.

The couple can be seen snuggling up in a number of photos posted by Kardashian this weekend, from Barker’s return to performing at a string of concert dates with MGK.

“tour wife,” Kardashian captioned the pictures, while Barker commented, “Tour life’s better with you.”

“Against his doctor’s orders AND with a broken thumb, I convinced @travisbarker to come join us for the last couple days,” Machine Gun Kelly had revealed on Instagram on Aug. 10. Barker later added, “I’m impregnating the entire crowd at the @machinegunkelly show tonight … With a broken thumb and torn tendons.”

The drummer headed out on the Mainstream Sellout Tour this week after being hospitalized over a severe case of pancreatitis in June. During a routine “endoscopy, I had a very small polyp removed right in a very sensitive area, usually handled by specialists, which unfortunately damaged a critical pancreatic drainage tube,” he said in July. “I am so very very grateful that with intensive treatment I am currently much better.”

Nicki Minaj‘s latest single, “Super Freaky Girl,” has topped this week’s new music poll.

Music fans voted in a poll published Friday (Aug. 12) on Billboard, choosing the Queen of Rap’s Rick James-sampling track as their favorite new music release of the past week.

“Super Freaky Girl” beat out new music by Megan Thee Stallion (Traumazine), Anitta and Maluma (“El Que Espera”), NIKI (Nicole), Rod Wave (Beautiful Mind), and others.

“Super Freaky Girl” finds Minaj doing what she does best — remixing old hits and reintroducing them to a new generation of fans. Where her 2014 smash “Anaconda” revisited Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back,” “Freaky Girl” employs James’ 1981 Billboard Hot 100 hit “Super Freak.” She has a gleeful time reanimating the classic track’s salacious funk with sexual innuendo and a flow that knows when to speed up and when to really land a punchline.

“Super Freaky Girl” is Minaj’s first release since “We Go Up” with Fivio Foreign in March. Prior to that, she dropped “Blick Blick” with Coi Leray, “Bussin” with Lil Baby, and “Do We Have A Problem?” with Lil Baby again — all from this year.

Placing second on the past week’s tally with 8% of the vote was Megan Thee Stallion’s sophomore album, Traumazine. The unflinching and revealing new full-length sees the Houston rapper at her most vicious, as heard on fiery tracks “Plan B” and “Ungrateful.” She then mellows into the soul bearing “Anxiety,” creating a multi-faceted body of work.

Lizzo‘s “2 B Loved (Am I Ready)” music video is on its way, and it might be picking up where her “Truth Hurts” video left off.

Fans got a sneak peek at the video concept on Sunday (Aug. 14) when Lizzo shared a teaser clip that begins with the wedding set from “Truth Hurts” and ends with the singer speeding off like a runaway bride.

“ARE YOU READY..?” Lizzo wrote on Twitter. “THE ‘2 B LOVED’ MUSIC VIDEO IS COMING…”

She ended her tweet with 12 bride emojis.

On Friday, she’d hinted at the new video on Instagram, where she posted a clip of herself running into the water in a wedding dress, with the caption “DID I SAY YES?”

“2 B Loved (Am I Ready)” is featured on Lizzo’s latest studio album, Special. Her first single from the set, “About Damn Time,” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, making it her second Hot 100 leader (after “Truth Hurts” topped the chart in 2019).

The Chicks paid tribute to late singer/actress Olivia Newton-John during their concert at the Gorge Amphitheater in Washington on Saturday (Aug. 13).

Prior to performing a heartfelt rendition of Newton-John’s Grease classic “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines shared a few words with the audience about the impact the late singer/actress had on her childhood.

“We lost a worldwide sweetheart last week, Olivia Newton-John,” Maines said. “I thought I was Olivia Newton-John from, like, 4 to 12 (years old), and then I only wished I was Olivia Newton-John. So we worked up today at soundcheck a little Olivia Newton-John song.”

Newton-John, best known for her role as Sandy Olsson in 1978’s Grease and for a long string of hits topped by “Physical” in 1981, died on Aug. 8. She was 73.

“Hopelessly Devoted to You” peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the song received an Oscar nomination for best original song. The Grease film soundtrack spent 12 weeks atop the Billboard 200 and wound up with a Grammy nomination for album of the year.

Fellow country music star Kelsea Ballerini also recently honored Newton-John with a beautiful a cappella cover of “Hopelessly Devoted to You” on Instagram. “Olivia Newton-John forever,” the singer captioned the video.

Svika Pick, a pillar of Israel’s music industry who gained international attention after his song won the Eurovision Song Contest, has died. He was 72.

Pick, known as “the Maestro” in Israeli pop circles, was a singer, composer and prolific songwriter who penned dozens of No. 1 hits. After news of his death broke Sunday, Israeli radio stations cut off regular programming to broadcast his music.

Pick’s catchy pop songs, stretching as far back as the 1970s, became a soundtrack of the nation. He began his career on stage with a role in the musical Hair and throughout the decades became a mainstay of the Israeli music scene. A collection of his songs was turned into a musical in the early 2000s.

Among his best known tunes was “Diva,” written for the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest and performed by singer Dana International. That song won the campy competition that year and observers have repeatedly chosen it as among the contest’s all-time best entries. In a statement. Dana International called Pick “an Israeli cultural icon. A trailblazer. A gifted composer. The king of Israeli pop.”

At the start of his career, Pick brought some glitz to Israel’s music scene with his David Bowie-esque dress and signature long hair at a time when the country’s performers and audiences were more conservative.

The Pick name gained further international recognition when Daniella Pick, one of Zvika’s four children, married American director Quentin Tarantino. The couple recently had a second child and split their time between Israel and the U.S.

Pick suffered a stroke in 2018 which impeded his speech and movement. While his condition improved somewhat since, he did not return to perform or write as often as he once did.

Pick’s death drew condolences from all walks of Israeli life, including politicians, fellow artists and ordinary Israelis. The cause of death was not immediately known.

Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid said Pick’s songs “entered the Israeli heart and culture and turned into an anthem.”

“Svika died today but his songs and compositions that he left behind will continue to be played for years to come,” Lapid said.
