A techno parade whose initiators include the founder of the Love Parade, once a popular annual party in Berlin, took to the streets of the German capital Saturday (July 9) with calls for the city’s electronic music culture to be added to a World Heritage list.

The Rave the Planet parade set out from the Kurfuerstendamm shopping boulevard to the Victory Column in the middle of Berlin’s Tiergarten park.

Police estimated 20,000 people turned out for the parade in cool, rainy weather, the German news agency dpa reported. They deployed 600 officers but no disturbances were reported.

One of the parade’s organizers, a DJ known professionally as Dr. Motte, called for an unconditional basic income for artists and for Berlin’s club culture to be listed as intangible heritage by UNESCO, the U.N.’s cultural agency.

Dr. Motte, 62, is best known for founding the Love Parade — which grew from a small procession of 150 ravers in 1989 to a huge music festival and street party with 1.5 million participants a decade later. The event’s popularity later waned; it was last held in Berlin in 2006.

Parties with the Love Parade brand were held under different organizers after that in Germany’s industrial Ruhr region, but ended after a mass panic at the 2010 event in Duisburg resulted in 21 deaths.

Parmalee had country fans swooning when they released their heartfelt love song, “Take My Name.”

The song ascended to No. 1 on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart (dated June 18), marking their third leader on the tally. “To have back-to-back No. 1 songs is incredible,” Matt Smith tells Billboard. “The way country radio and our fans have embraced this song and have helped take it to the top is overwhelming. It feels like we are just getting started.”

If you need a guide to follow along with Parmalee’s “Take My Name,” find the lyrics below:

Take my hand, let me make you mine
I’m through waiting, taking my time
Never felt like this before
Take my name and make it yours

I hope you don’t think it’s a little bit crazy
Saying this all so soon
But baby, it’s the right time, knew it from the first time
That I laid eyes on you
It’s okay, let ’em say what they want
They might think I should wait but I don’t, nah, I don’t
Wanna waste a minute, girl, I want you in it
Every single part of my world

So take my hand, let me make you mine
I’m through waiting, taking my time
Never felt like this before
Take my name and make it yours

I know I’m the last guy, anybody think might
Ever be talking like this, yeah
But I can see my future in your eyes tonight
And taste forever on your lips
I’m like, hold up a minute, don’t go
Ain’t no way I can take this slow, so
Go ahead and tell me I’m outta my mind
Or baby, just tell me yes

And take my hand, let me make you mine
I’m through waiting, taking my time
Never felt like this before
Take my name and make it yours
Take my days, baby, take my nights
Go and take the rest of my life
Oh, ’cause I don’t wanna wait no more
Take my name and make it yours, yeah

Take it all, baby, I don’t ever want it back
Take it all, yeah, everything that I have

Take my hand, let me make you mine
I’m through waiting, taking my time
Never felt like this before
Take my name and make it yours
Take my days, baby, take my nights
Go and take the rest of my life
Oh, ’cause I don’t wanna wait no more
Take my name and make it yours

Make it yours
Oh, ’cause I don’t wanna wait no more
Take my name and make it yours

Chicago rockers Fall Out Boy took to social media on Friday (July 8) to pledge a $100,000 donation to Everytown for Gun Safety following the mass shooting at a Fourth of July parade in neighboring Highland Park, Illinois.

“Chicago is where we grew up, and we are heartbroken for the families and entire community of Highland Park, as well as every single victim of wanton gun violence in America,” begins their message, which the band posted to Instagram and Twitter. “We will be donating $100,000 through The Fall Out Boy Fund to @Everytown for Gun Safety to help their continued efforts toward ending gun violence.”

The band — Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley — announced The Fall Out Boy Fund in September 2017 “as a way for us to give back to Chicago, the city that has given so much to us,” they wrote in the announcement.

In 2018, Fall Out Boy headlined the Stay Amped concert in Washington, D.C., the day before the March for Our Lives, with a portion of proceeds benefiting Everytown.

Monday’s tragic shooting began 15 minutes after the Highland Park Independence Day parade kicked off, killing seven and injuring nearly 50 others.

On Wednesday, Chicago’s Ravinia Festival canceled or postponed seven shows in the wake of the mass shooting. “In light of Monday’s tragedy, and out of deep respect for our community, Ravinia announces the cancellation or postponement of all concerts and events through Sunday, July 10,” the organization based in Highland Park wrote in a statement.

Lil Nas X is making some adjustments to his music rollout plans.

On Friday, the two-time Grammy winner revealed to his fans on Twitter that he had intended to release new music in April, following the highly successful October release of his self-titled debut album Montero, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.]

When asked why he didn’t extend rollouts for some of his most beloved tracks, including “Scoop” and “Dead Right Now,” Lil Nas X tweeted Friday (July 8), “Yeah that was a mistake on my part i admit, i was hoping to have new album ready and new material by april of this year but God said no.”

He further addressed his music dilemma after another Twitter user suggested that he “milk” his newest album. “I don’t wanna milk any of my songs like that again,” Lil Nas X explained. “It takes the fun out of creating new things.”

To date, Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, holds the record for longest-leading No. 1 single in Billboard Hot 100 history, having spent 19 consecutive weeks leading the ranks ahead of the July 2019 release of his debut EP, 7.

Most recently, the Lithia Springs, Ga., native premiered his collaborative track “Late to Da Party (F*CK BET)” featuring Youngboy Never Broke Again. Released in June, “Late to Da Party” saw Lil Nas X taking jabs at the BET network after he was not nominated at the 2022 BET Awards.

Lil Nas X performed during the BET Awards both last year and in 2019 and scored a nomination for best new artist in 2020.

Shawn Mendes announced Friday (July 8) that he’ll be taking the next three weeks of his Wonder: The World Tour off to focus on his mental health.

“This breaks my heart to have to say this, but unfortunately I’m going to have to postpone the next three weeks of shows through Uncasville, CT until further notice,” Mendes wrote on Instagram and Twitter. “I’ve been touring since I was 15 and to be honest it’s always been difficult to be on the road away from friends and family. After a few years off the road, I felt like I was ready to dive back in, but that decision was premature and unfortunately the toll of the road and the pressure has caught up to me and I’ve hit a breaking point.

“After speaking with my team and health professionals, I need to take some time to heal and take care of myself and my mental health, first and foremost,” Mendes’ message continued. “As soon as there are more updates I promise I will let you know. Love you guys.”

Mendes was set to play Saturday night in St. Paul, Minn., and as he said in his message, the break will affect dates through July 29 in Uncasville, Ct. Other cities affected by the time off: Omaha, Neb.; Milwaukee; Rosemont, Ill.; St. Louis; Cleveland; Pittsburgh; Charlotte, N.C.; Raleigh, N.C.; Philadelphia; and Washington, D.C.

Mendes found support from his fellow artists in the comments section, with Maggie Rogers, Giveon, Brett Eldredge, Remi Wolf and more leaving hearts and other messages for the pop star.
