Beyoncé Invests in Lemon-Flavored Water Brand: ‘It Was an Easy Decision’

Beyoncé wants you to stay hydrated, and if anyone knows about the power of lemons, it’s Mrs. Carter.

The multiplatinum-selling superstar became a key investor in the Atlanta-based flavored water brand Lemon Perfect, the company announced last week.

“I don’t typically enjoy drinks without added sugar, but Lemon Perfect is delicious,” Beyoncé shared in a statement on the Lemon Perfect website. “It was an easy decision to invest in something that not only tastes great and is healthy, but also, and most importantly, allows choosing a healthier lifestyle to be affordable and accessible to everyone.”

Lemon Perfect received $31 million from a network of investors across food and beverage, media, music, sports and entertainment, with Beyoncé headlining the list. The massive, multimillion-dollar investment raises Lemon Perfect’s total funding to $42.2 million and total valuation to more than $100 million in less than three years.

The hydrating, flavored lemon water is powered by organic lemons and packed with electrolytes from potassium and vitamin C. The water contains no sugar and no artificial flavors or sweeteners and it comes in a handful of different flavors including Just Lemon, Dragon Fruit Mango, Peach Raspberry and Kiwi Star Fruit.

Lemon Perfect is available at major retailers such as Amazon, Walmart and Vitamin Shoppe and through the company’s website.

Pearl Jam Honors ‘Incredible’ Taylor Hawkins at Gigaton Tour Opener

Pearl Jam ticked off their postponed North American tour in support of their 2020 album Gigatron at San Diego’s Viejas Arena on Tuesday night (May 3), where the band paid tribute to the late Taylor Hawkins, who died unexpectedly at age 50 in March.

Before playing the Gigaton track “Quick Escape,” frontman Eddie Vedder honored the band’s drummer Matt Cameron’s friendship with the late Foo Fighters drummer, according to Spin. “He emitted something very incredible and very special. We’re all missing him, and so, Matt, I’m sorry again for your loss,” he said. “But it just gives us another chance to say how much we appreciate you as well.”

Cameron and Hawkins seemingly played drums together often, and just last fall, the duo performed Queen‘s “Keep Yourself Alive” together at Vedder’s Ohana festival.

Hawkins’ death was announced via a social media statement from the band’s accounts on March 25, with no immediate cause of death given. “The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins,” the statement read. “His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever.”

The Foo Fighters were scheduled to perform Friday night in Bogotá, Colombia, as part of Festival Estéreo Picnic. According to local news reports, the drummer was found dead in his Bogotá hotel room.

The Attorney General’s Office of Colombia reported that a urine toxicology test had found traces of 10 types of substances in his system, including THC (marijuana), tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines and opioids. The office noted that the National Institute of Forensic Medicine will continue its medical inquiry to reach “total clarification of the events that led to the death of Taylor Hawkins.”

Drake Did the Most Drake Thing Ever & DM’d a Troll’s Wife on Instagram

Drake has warned his fans a number of times in his lyrics about stealing girls away from their boyfriends and husbands — he even has a song with Lil Wayne titled, “Take Your Girl.”

The rapper jokingly walked the walk on Tuesday (May 3), when an Instagram troll poked fun at Drake’s son, Adonis, writing, “Ya son prolly play with ghost writers.” The snide remark was in reference to past controversies, in which Drake was accused of not writing his own verses and using ghostwriters.

Instead of getting heated, Drake decided to have some fun. He found the troll’s wife and followed her on Instagram. “I just followed your girl cause she’s prob miserable and needs some excitement in her life,” he replied to the original comment.

The wife, named Toni, went on to share her perspective on her Instagram Stories. “Oh hey @champagnepapi,” she captioned a screenshot of her followers, with Drake bring one of them. She followed up by writing, “My husband @ceddybo_ybagnm decides to be a troll and now @champagnepapi thinking I need excitement in my life [eyes emoji] [laughing emoji].”

Oh, but that’s not all. Drake also DMed Toni after seeing her Stories. “I’m here for u ma,” he wrote to her.

In 2015, Gaga shared a heartfelt post paying tribute to the music icon near the anniversary of her death. Years earlier, Gaga thanked Houston after winning the Grammy for best pop vocal album for The Fame Monster.

“I need to say thank you tonight to Whitney Houston,” Gaga said in her acceptance speech. “I wanted to thank Whitney because when I wrote ‘Born This Way,’ I imagined she was singing it because I wasn’t secure enough in myself to imagine I was a superstar. So, Whitney, I imagined you were singing ‘Born This Way’ when I wrote it. Thank you.”

Gaga has been pretty active on social media lately. Apart from paying homage to Houston, her most recent posts include a snapshot of her kissing Tom Cruise on the cheek and a cryptic video teasing a forthcoming announcement from Haus Labs that will be revealed on Sunday at 9. am. ET.

Spotify Is Testing a ‘Pre-Save’ Feature With Florence + the Machine’s New Album

Spotify is testing a new feature that would allow users to pre-save albums in the days and weeks prior to their release, the company tells Billboard.

The test launched with Florence + the Machine’s forthcoming album Dance Fever, slated for release May 13. When navigating to the band’s official profile on the Spotify iOS mobile app, users who click “upcoming releases” will find a dedicated page for the album that includes a “pre-save” button, a countdown clock to the album’s release, cover artwork, a track list preview and exclusive clips featuring singer Florence Welch; users are also able to share a direct link to the pre-save page. Once Dance Fever is released, those who pre-saved it on the app will receive an alert that the album is now available on Spotify.

In a statement, a Spotify spokesperson confirmed that the company is only experimenting with the feature for now. It will be running additional tests soon.

“Spotify is testing a new pre-release experience,” the spokesperson said. “We routinely conduct a number of tests in an effort to improve artist and fan experiences. Some of those tests end up paving the way for a broader experience and others serve only as an important learning.”

Spotify is just the latest major music streaming platform to introduce a pre-save feature, which provides additional data to the label and streaming service and can help support editorial playlisting when the music is released. Apple Music and Tidal both launched pre-saves in 2018, while YouTube Music introduced them in 2020. Amazon Music does not currently offer pre-saves.

Currently, Spotify’s pre-save test is only available on the streamer’s iOS mobile app, though there are plans to expand it to Android. The feature is not yet available on desktop.

Though artists were previously able to mount pre-save campaigns using tools offered by their labels or distributors, this is the first time the feature has been available directly on Spotify. The company tells Billboard that its industry partners have long been requesting pre-save functionality on the app.
