Cardi B surprised fans at the West Hollywood Gay Pride Parade on Sunday (June 5) and, as expected, she brought the party by giving attendees shots of Whipshots, her vodka-infused whipped cream collaboration with Starco Brands.
Rocking a sparkling rainbow bodysuit and a blonde wig with red and purple streaks, the “I Like It” rapper was seen dancing on a float as she sprayed her alcohol-infused snack into the mouths of onlookers.
“When I woke up today, ‘letting Cardi B put it in my mouth’ wasn’t on my to-do list, but you always gotta be prepared for the opportunities that come your way,” one fan hilariously wrote on Twitter alongside a photo of their interaction with Cardi.

Pride Month is part celebration, part activism for the LGBTQ+ community that takes place throughout the month of June, rooted in the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, when police raided a popular gay bar called The Stonewall Inn in New York City’s West Village. While police raids were common in gay bars at the time, on June 28, 1969, the patrons fought back, launching the days-long Stonewall Riots. The first Pride parade occurred one year later, in 1970.
Every June is filled with parades, protests and drag performances, plus memorials and celebrations of life for those who lost their lives to HIV/AIDS, in an effort to support and uplift the LGBTQ+ community. For more information and resources, check out youth.gov’s website here.
Last month’s announcement that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences is reducing the number of songs from a film that may be submitted for Oscar consideration (from five to three) prompted us to take a deep dive into the Oscar rulebook in the music categories.
The Oscars have had music categories every year since 1934, when the stylish “The Continental” (performed by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers) won best original song and One Night of Love won for scoring.
In the early years, there was no explicit rule that a song had to be written for the film in which it was featured. The poignant ballad “The Last Time I Saw Paris,” which Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II wrote in response to the Nazi takeover of Paris in June 1940, was a hit for Kate Smith that year — the year before the release of the film (Lady Be Good) for which it won the Oscar. The requirement that a song had to be written for the film was made explicit the following year. The rules now state: “The work must be recorded for use in the motion picture prior to any other usage, including public performance or exploitation through any media whatsoever.”
In the first four years of the scoring category, the award went to the film studio’s music department and its department head. The following year it was changed so that the composer(s) of the film score received the award.
Here are 10 rules in the music categories that you may find surprising.
BTS have come up with a new way for ARMY to share their memories with the boy band, and it’s all happening on YouTube.
On Monday (June 6), the K-pop idols announced their new fan initiative #MyBTStory, which officially launches this Friday in an exclusive partnership with the streaming hub’s YouTube Shorts.
“Dear ARMY, For nine years you have been our greatest champions,” the septet wrote in a letter posted to YouTube’s official blog. “As we embark on the journey to our tenth year as a band, we want to remember and celebrate all the special moments we’ve had together so far. Beginning this Saturday, we want to ask you to share your BTS stories with us, and each other, on YouTube Shorts.”
The note continues: “From our first concert to the world’s biggest stages, to video premieres and album releases, you have been there with us and we want to relive these unforgettable BTS moments with you. By adding the hashtag #MyBTStory to your Short, we will be able to watch and possibly include your story in an ARMY tribute video we are making that will feature a collection of these memories. ARMY, we love you so much, thank you for sticking by us and we can’t wait to see what you create!”
The #MyBTStory challenge launches the same day that BTS plans to premiere their new music video for “Yet to Come (The Most Beautiful Moment)” and release their upcoming three-disc anthology album Proof, and runs through July 9.
The boy band recently made their first official visit to the White House to meet with both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris and hold a press briefing about the troubling surge of anti-Asian hate crimes happening across the country.
West Hollywood celebrated the start of pride month with the Out Loud Raising Our Voices music festival which featured artists like Cardi B, Lil’ Kim, Jessie J, Jojo Siwa, Janelle Monáe, Marina and The Diamonds, and more!
Independent drill music hitmaker Chief Keef has partnered with RBC Records/BMG to launch his new label 43B [Forget Everybody], it was announced Monday (June 6). Chief Keef previously released several hit albums via RBC Records — including Sorry 4 The Weight, Thot Breaker and Mansion Musick — before RBC was acquired by BMG in 2018.
Chief Keef’s new 43B [Forget Everybody] label is multi-tiered, offering distribution and marketing services for artists and producers while providing the necessary resources, guidance and infrastructure for success. Keef’s long time manager, Idris Dykes, will act as co-CEO, while Sophie Kautz has been appointed head of A&R and marketing. Atlanta-based rapper Lil Gnar is the label’s first signing.
“43B has been a passion project of mine for over a year and I’m ready to give artists that are changing the game a label where they can really succeed,” Chief Keef said in a statement. “I’ve been independent for almost 10 years, so I want to pass on my knowledge of the industry to artists who are shifting the culture so they can make it to the top.”
Chief Keef & Lil Gnar
Keef most recently released his music with Digiglo LLC, including 4NEM (2021), The GloFiles Pt. 4 (2020), The GloFiles Pt. 3 (2019), The Leek Vol. 6 (2018), 7 & 8 (2019). In 2019, he and Zaytoven jointly released Camp GloTiggy on BMG.
“I’m incredibly excited about the formation of 43B,” said Dykes. “This partnership with BMG offers us the opportunity to bring the dynamic and forward-thinking ideas on ownership and individuality that Chef Keef has championed throughout his career into the infrastructure of our new venture. We’re thrilled to give the most innovative artists of the next generation the platform and resources to thrive in this industry.”
Kautz, head of A&R and marketing, said in a statement, “43B is a remarkable venture that will give standout artists the opportunity to receive direct guidance and support from Chief Keef and our team. We have spent the last two years building out this in-house team with BMG and developing a boutique and tailor-fitted framework for the label to ensure the success of our roster. 43B will operate on an artist-friendly model, giving our artists and producers the means to flourish in their careers.”
RBC Records senior director of A&R and marketing added, “We are beyond proud to say that Chief Keef has been a part of the RBC family for many years. We’ve watched him grow into the icon that he is, and are more than excited to see him take these next steps in his already legendary career.”

The HBO teen drama won three Emmys two years ago, including outstanding lead actress in a drama series for Zendaya and outstanding original music and lyrics for Labrinth.
Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was the top-grossing film released in 2021, won two key awards – best movie and best performance in a movie for star Tom Holland. Despite its popularity, the film received just one Oscar nod – best visual effects.
Loki, a first-year Disney+ series based on Marvel Comics, also won two awards – breakthrough performance for Sophia Di Martino and best team for its stars, Hiddleston, Di Martino and Owen Wilson. In winning for breakthrough performance, Di Martino beat an Oscar-winning performance – Ariana DeBose in West Side Story.
Daniel Radcliffe won best villain for The Lost City 10 years after he won best hero for playing Harry Potter in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2. Now that’s range.
The Batman, which was the third-most-nominated scripted program (after Spider-Man: No Way Home and Euphoria), was shut out.
MTV made some changes to its Movie & TV Awards for 2022. Most notably, that show and a spinoff that it introduced last year, Movie & TV Awards: Unscripted, aired on the same night. Last year, the two shows aired on successive nights.
Also, MTV added six new categories across the two shows, including two that have a strong music focus – best song and best music documentary.
In the best music documentary category, 19-year-old sensation Olivia Rodrigo (driving home 2 u, a SOUR film) beat the greatest group of all time, The Beatles (The Beatles: Get Back). The other nominees in the category were docs by Janet Jackson, Kanye West and Oasis.
“On My Way (Marry Me)” from the Jennifer Lopez rom-com Marry Me was a surprise winner for best song. It beat “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from Encanto, a No. 1 hit on The Billboard Hot 100, and a song from the buzzy Euphoria (“Little Star”), among others. Lopez also received a special award, the Generation Award.
The show originated in 1992 as the MTV Movie Awards. It was renamed the MTV Movie & TV Awards for its 26th edition in 2017 to signify that it now honored work in television as well as film.

Panic! At the Disco‘s “Viva Las Vengeance” tops this week’s new music poll.
Music fans voted in a poll published Friday (June 3) on Billboard, choosing Panic! At the Disco’s latest track as their favorite music release of the past week.
Panic! At the Disco are giving fans a taste of what’s to come from their new album with the title track “Viva Las Vengeance,” which just dropped on Wednesday (June 1).
“Viva Las Vengeance is a look back at who I was 17 years ago and who I am now with the fondness I didn’t have before,” Urie previously said of the upcoming album. “I didn’t realize I was making an album and there was something about the tape machine that kept me honest.”
“Viva Las Vengeance” brought in more than 59% of the vote in this week’s new music poll on Billboard.
Trailing behind was Post Malone‘s Twelve Carat Toothache album with 31% of the vote. The set, released this week, is his fourth studio album, and it features appearances from The Weeknd, Roddy Ricch, Doja Cat and more.
See the final results of this week’s poll below.
TORONTO — Canadian singer Jacob Hoggard, the former frontman for multi-platinum pop-rock band Hedley, on Sunday (June 5) was found guilty of sexual assault causing bodily harm against one woman, but not guilty of the same charge involving a 16-year-old fan.
Hoggard was also found not guilty of sexual interference, which refers to sexual touching of any part of the body on a person under the age of 16.
The separate assaults occurred in 2016 in his hotel room. One woman is from Ottawa and the then-teenager from the Greater Toronto Area. Hoggard, who took the stand in his own defense, pled not guilty to all charges.
During the trial, which began May 5, Canadian media in the court reported the two complainants described being violently raped. Hoggard said it was consensual sex.
The verdict comes six days after the revelation of a new rape charge against Hoggard that was kept out of the media since March to avoid tainting the current jury.
The British Columbia-born Hoggard, 37, will face a new trial for one charge of sexual assault causing bodily harm. The rape is alleged to have occurred in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, in 2016 when the band was on tour. His lawyer Megan Savard, who did not respond to Billboard’s request for comment, told CBC he would plead not guilty.
Allegations against Hoggard began to surface on social media in early 2018. The rambunctious singer rose to fame in 2004 on Canadian Idol (which has since been cancelled), landing in the top three before signing with Universal Music Canada for his band Hedley, along with a new lineup. Capitol Records signed them in the U.S. in 2006 but later dropped them.
In Canada, their success continued with chart-topping singles, platinum certifications and headlining tours. Hoggard hosted the Juno Awards in 2015. Their seventh and final album, Cageless, was released in 2017.
But multiple women and girls told their stories online of alleged sexual abuse by the singer. In response, Hoggard issued a public statement on Feb. 18, 2018, which read in part: “I need to be completely clear: I have never engaged in non-consensual sexual behavior in my life. Ever. However, over the last 13 years, I have behaved in a way that objectified women.” He added, “It’s time for me to change. I’ve decided to step away from my career indefinitely. I will honour my commitments to this tour…”
Hedley’s agency, management and record label dropped the band and radio pulled their music from their playlists.
Toronto prosecutors charged Hoggard in July of 2018. He married his second wife on Dec. 31 later that year. They have one child.
The trial was originally scheduled to begin in November of 2018, but was pushed back several times, the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It finally started on May 2.
Billboard also reached out to Crown prosecutor Jill Witkin, who declined to comment.
The Canadian music industry has seen other allegations of sexual assault or misconduct surface online, but only two have resulted in criminal charges — Hoggard’s and media personality Jian Ghomeshi.
In 2014, after being charged with sexual assault, Ghomeshi fell from grace as the high-profile host of the CBC Radio talk show Q which also aired in the U.S. on more than 170 Public Radio International stations. The former singer with a cappella group Moxy Früvous also managed electronic-pop singer Lights.
In 2016, an Ontario court judge acquitted him on four counts of sexual assault and one count of choking. A sixth charge was withdrawn. He disappeared from public view before launching a short-lived podcast. In April of 2020, he started a new podcast for the Iranian diaspora.
Since then, there have been other cases which have led to swift action. In October 2019, long-time promoter Ewan Exall was fired from Embrace Presents after a woman alleged in an online post that he raped, beat and bit her when she was 16, and had kept a folder of photos of underage girls.
In July of 2020, multi-platinum pop-punk band Simple Plan announced original member David Desrosiers was leaving after women came forward on Instagram and Reddit about his predatory and aggressive behaviour. “I have decided to withdraw from the band and seek professional help to educate myself and act appropriately in the future,” the bassist wrote.
That same month, cellist Danny Kenyon left alternative bluegrass band The Dead South after several women came forward on Instagram with allegations of sexual misconduct. He rejoined the band in June of 2021.
Stories about sexual assault allegations can be traumatizing for survivors of sexual assault. If you or anyone you know needs support, you can reach out to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN). The organization provides free, confidential support to sexual assault victims. Call RAINN’s National Sexual Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE) or visit the anti-sexual violence organization’s website for more information.
Jennifer Lopez got emotional while being honored with the Generation Award at the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards on Sunday (June 5).
“I look at those movies and I see all the wonderful people that I’ve been blessed to know and to work with. You’re only as good as the people that you work with,” Lopez said during her acceptance speech after a montage of clips from her films played. “And if you’re lucky, they make you better. And I have been very lucky in that regard. As an actor, I’m not any of the women that I’ve played, but there’s a part of what is deeply true to me in each one of those characters.”
She added: “And since you cannot create truth unless you’ve really lived it, I have a different kind of list of thank-yous tonight. I want to thank all the people who gave me this life. I want to thank the people who gave me joy. And the ones who broke my heart. The ones who were true and the ones who lied to me. I want to thank true love. And I want to thank the way that I lied to myself, because that’s how I knew that I had to grow. I want to thank disappointment and failure for teaching me to be strong and my children for teaching me to love. I want to thank all the people who told me to my face or when I wasn’t in the room that I couldn’t do this. I really don’t think I could have done it without you! And I know I couldn’t have done it without the fans.”
She then went on to thank her manager, Benny Medina, who she said was “the true meaning of ride or die.”
The Generation Award celebrates “beloved actors whose diverse contributions to both film and television have turned them into household names,” according to MTV. Past recipients include Scarlett Johansson, Dwayne Johnson, Chris Pratt, Reese Witherspoon, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Wahlberg, Sandra Bullock, Jamie Foxx, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey and the Fast & Furious franchise, among others.
Lopez has established herself in film, music, TV and business, with a cumulative worldwide box office gross of more than $3 billion and 75 million records sold. She was named to the TIME 100 list and Forbes’ Most Powerful Celebrity list and was the first to be on the cover of People magazine for the Most Beautiful Woman in the World.
Most recently, she starred in Marry Me opposite Owen Wilson and Maluma, which set record-breaking viewership numbers on Peacock. Her next film, HALFTIME, a documentary about her career, will premiere on Netflix on June 14.
