Lupita D’Alessio Sings Emotional Medley of ‘Mudanzas,’ ‘Ese Hombre’ & More at the 2022 Latin AMAs

Mexican icon Lupita D’Alessio was honored with the Legend Award at the 2022 Latin American Music Awards on Thursday (April 21), which honored her timeless songs and enduring career.

The award was presented to her by José Luis Rodríguez “El Puma,” who said she was one of the biggest interpreters of romantic music and a great colleague. After a video montage that recapped her illustrious career, D’Alessio took the stage to thank her fans and her family. “My parents taught me what I know today. My teachers, they taught me so much. Thank you, Mexico, for letting me grow, thank you Latin America and U.S for the love.”

Later in the show, the 68-year-old artist sang an impassioned medley of her best-known songs such as “Lo Siento Mi Amor,” “Ese Hombre,” “Que Ganas de No Verte Nunca Mas,” “Acariciame,” “Mudanzas” and “Mentiras.” Throughout her performance, all who were in attendance stood up and sang along to the empowerment anthems that marked a generation. From Grupo Firme’s Jhonny Caz to Mariah Angeliq, the crowd was in awe as they watched the artist’s powerful performance.

The Legend Award is presented to artists who have endured the test of time and “who at the very mention of their name conjures a vivid and vibrant image,” according to a statement provided by Telemundo. D’Alessio (born Guadalupe Contreras Ramos) has serenaded fans for five decades with anthemic ballads such as “Mudanzas,” “Acariciamo” and “Que Ganas de No Verte Nunca Más.”

D’Alessio began her professional career in 1971 at the Festival Internacional de la Canción Popular and, in 1978, won at the coveted OTI Festival. Overall, she’s recorded 60 live, studio and compilation albums, participated in 11 soap operas, and has sold over 40 million albums. Currently, she’s on her Aquí Estoy Yo Tour, which launched in Mexico and with which she’ll soon visit the United States, with more than 12 shows confirmed for this year.

Hosted by Rafael Amaya, Jacqueline Bracamontes, and Cristián de la Fuentes, the 2022 Latin AMAs – live from the Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas – will feature performances by Ozuna, CNCO, Prince Royce, Los Ángeles Azules and Gloria Trevi, among others.

Maria Becerra, Tiago PZK and Lit Killah Show Argentina Power at Latin AMAs

It was all about Argentine power, with young guns Tiago PZK, Lit Killah and Maria Becerra onstage together for their hit “Entre Nosotros.”

Representing a brash new generation of Argentine acts who have become global streaming phenoms with their blend of trap, pop and R&B, each of the three displayed a distinctive sound.

Initially singing from chairs that simulated hospital beds that showed vital signs, and dressed all in white (a theme of the evening), the trio got up halfway, with screams from the audience sometimes overpowering the singing.

No longer far away thanks to streaming, Argentine power is here to stay.

Grupo Firme Talk About Epic Coachella Debut at the 2022 Latin AMAs: Watch

Grupo Firme attended the 2022 Latin American Music Awards on Thursday night (April 21), where they had six nominations. “We are very happy,” lead vocalist Eduin Caz told Billboard on the red carpet.

Firme was nominated for favorite duo or group, favorite duo or group – Regional Mexican, favorite regional Mexican song, collaboration of the year, viral song of the year and tour of the year.

This past weekend, the Regional Mexican group made their debut at Coachella and is ready to do it all over again this coming weekend. On the carpet, they addressed their performance, which was not livestreamed on the official Coachella YouTube channel.

“There was confusion and things were a bit tense,” Caz explains. “But it was resolved and our performance was televised on Sunday. Fans can watch it this Friday as well. We’re going to give it all. I think fans will even enjoy the second performance even more.” Firme will take center stage at Coachella on Friday, April 22.

Watch Aloe Blacc Sing ‘Wake Me Up’ in Three Languages to Honor Fourth Anniversary of Avicii’s Death

Four years ago Wednesday (April 20), Avicii died suddenly at age 28, shocking the global dance scene, the producer’s millions of fans, scores of collaborators and the world at large.

On the fourth anniversary of the superstar producer’s death, one of his best known collaborators, Aloe Blacc, has paid tribute to the artist born Tim Bergling by recording his own vocals from the Avicii hit “Wake Me Up” in Mandarin and Spanish.

Blacc, whose lyrics and vocal performance helped make “Wake Me Up” a global megahit and one of the most enduring songs from the Avicii catalog, posted his “Universal Language Mix” to YouTube, writing that “Avicii’s music touched the world. Writing the lyrics and recording the vocals on ‘Wake Me Up’ was a transformative experience for me. Everywhere I’ve been, no matter the country, music lovers and fans sing the lyrics with me in English.”

Famously debuting to boos at Miami’s Ultra Music Festival 2013, “Wake Me Up” peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and finished at No. 13 on Billboard’s year-end Hot 100 songs chart in 2013. “Wake Me Up” also held the record for most weeks at No. 1 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart with 26 weeks, until that record was broken by The Chainsmokers’ “Closer,” featuring Halsey, which logged 27 weeks at No. 1.

Other dance figures also paid tribute to Avicii on Wednesday, with David Guetta sharing a home video of Bergling and writing “4 years ago already, we all miss you very much.” Timmy Trumpet shared a video of himself playing Avicii’s “S.O.S.” at Tomorrowland, writing “Music is eternal. RIP Avicii forever in our hearts,” while Beatport wrote that “Four years ago today we lost a true icon of the dance music world, Avicii. His music continues a lasting legacy.”

“He just frickin’ had the songwriting, and his mixes are so good,” Diplo also recently told Billboard of Avicii. “It took me a lot longer to appreciate him more. He passed away so young and only had this window of like, four years — but he was really a big influence on me. He was just a sick songwriter, and mainstream as hell, but the songs are classics. They weren’t sell outs. He made bangers.”

Kelly Clarkson Continues the ’80s ‘Kellyoke’ Theme With Kool & the Gang Cover

After her spunky, colorful rendition of A Flock of Seagulls’ new wave classic hit “I Ran (So Far Away),” Kelly Clarkson continued her journey through the 1980s for her eponymous talk show on Wednesday (April 20).

This time, the singer and host took on Kool & the Gang‘s totally far out 1981 hit, “Get Down On It.” To complete the throwback theme, Clarkson rocked a zebra print blazer, a bright red lip and a big, teased hairstyle.

“I say people, what you gonna do? / You gotta get on the groove / If you want your body to move,” the Grammy winning artist smiled and she sang the dance-ready track.

“Get Down On It” peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart dated May 22, 1982 and spent 17 total weeks on the chart. The song is included on the group’s 13th studio album, Something Special, which climbed up to No. 12 on the Billboard 200 albums chart on November 28, 1981. The LP spent an impressive 67 total weeks on the chart and marks their second-highest ranking album.
