Tiffany Haddish says she turned down an offer to host the 2021 Grammys Premiere Ceremony, sharing that the Recording Academy expected her to take on the role without compensation, according to an interview with Variety.
The comedy star also said that her hair, makeup and wardrobe would not be covered either. “All of that would have to come out of my pocket,” she said. “I don’t know if this might mean I might not get nominated ever again, but I think it’s disrespectful.
“I was like, ‘The exposure is amazing but I think I have enough. I appreciate you guys asking,’” she continued. “And as much as I appreciate the honor of being nominated, that’s not OK.”
The Grammys Premiere Ceremony is a nearly three-hour event that takes place before the prime-time Grammys each year and is where the bulk of the night’s 83 awards will be handed out.
Haddish is up for best comedy album for Netflix’s Black Mitzvah at the Jan. 31 ceremony. In 2019, her audiobook The Last Black Unicorn was nominated for best spoken word album.
Billboard has reached out to the Recording Academy for comment. An Academy rep told Variety that hosts, presenters and performers are not traditionally compensated for their participation in the Grammys Premiere Ceremony, noting that it is a production of the not-for-profit Recording Academy, not a CBS program like the prime-time awards ceremony.

“Way Out,” which arrived on Wednesday (Dec. 9) features the 22-year-old rapper’s characteristic low-pitched voice against a stirring beat. The accompanying video finds him living it up at a luxurious restaurant with friends, rapping, “I can tell who’s on the way out / Twenty-five shows, check the pay out / I ain’t goin’ home, I’ma stay out / Motherf—ers hate you when they lookin’ for a way out.”
The vignette then pans to Sean, enjoying a drink at the bar. “I get paid to do me, that’s a fact check / I run it up, then retrace my last steps,” he proclaims.
Harlow chatted with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe upon the song’s release, sharing, “He invited me in the house and I think they the barrier that you could have just was broke down immediately. He’s one of those down-to-earth cats. We just started talking about life. He was giving me gems. He’s been in the game for so long now. He’s experienced it. He knows what it’s like. So he was giving me a game bro, and just saluting me. And honestly, probably one of the nicest rappers I’ve ever met, if not the nicest.”
“Way Out” is set to appear on Harlow’s highly anticipated debut album, That’s What They All Say, out Friday (Dec. 11). “I do believe this album is timeless,” he told Lowe. “And I think it will timestamp this moment. And people are going to remember this album and live with it for years to come. So I’m excited about it.”

Kelly Clarkson recruited Pentatonix to ring in the Christmas spirit Wednesday (Dec. 9) on her talk show, and the a cappella group delivered a special rendition of “Amazing Grace.”
“After nearly a year of waiting, I’m happy that Christmas is almost here. It’s about time, 2020!” Clarkson declared while introducing the group. “To help us get into the spirit, my friends from the a cappella group Pentatonix created a special performance just for us.”
PTX dazzled with their stirring arrangement, which they performed against a simple white backdrop with an adorned Christmas tree housing presents underneath. Kirstin Maldonado wore a green velvet dress and popping red lip while Matt Sallee donned a bright red motorcycle jacket for their festive ‘fits.
The Grammy-winning troupe said they were returning the favor to Clarkson after she made a special guest appearance on their 2018 Christmas special Pentatonix: A Not So Silent Night.
“Amazing Grace” is off Pentatonix’s sixth holiday album, We Need a Little Christmas, which was released Nov. 13. The set peaked at No. 4 on Billboard’s Top Holiday Albums chart last month.

When Justin Bieber isn’t under the mistletoe, he’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” per his cover of Brenda Lee’s 1958 holiday classic.
He dropped the song as an exclusive gift for the new Amazon Original Songs collection of holiday tunes. “‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’ has always been one of my favorite songs to celebrate the holidays, and I’m excited to team up with Amazon Music to share my own version, with my fans,” Bieber said in a statement.
And for a Billboard Hot 100 Christmas miracle, his cover debuts at No. 83 on the all-genre tally the same week Lee’s original song climbs to No. 4 (chart dated Dec. 12).

It’s Carrie Underwood’s “Favorite Time of Year,” and she’s sharing her gift of music with everyone this season by releasing an extra song from her first Christmas album.
The bonus cut on My Gift, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart in October, is streaming exclusively on Amazon. It ranks at No. 4 out of the top five new streaming holiday songs of the year, through Nov. 26, according to MRC Data/Nielsen Music.
In an interview with Billboard about her Christmas set, Underwood explained how she strived to “create light in a dark year” with her holiday jingles and accompanying HBO Max special.
