Bad Bunny’s YHLQMDLG rules as the No. 1 Latin album on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums of the 21st Century chart. The retrospective is based on performance on the Top Latin Albums chart from the start of 2000 through the end of 2024.

The collection, released via Rimas Entertainment, is the longest-running No. 1 in the survey’s 32-year history, with 70 weeks at the summit in 2021-22.

“Thank you all who believed and who continue to believe in me,” Bad Bunny told Billboard in 2020 upon the album’s chart arrival. Echoing the meaning of its title, he said, “I do what I want, and it’s based on feelings. I don’t think about it. I do it for you and for the faith you have in me.”

At the time, Benito’s groundbreaking album become the all-genre Billboard 200’s highest charting all-Spanish-language album and scored the biggest streaming week ever for a Latin album and the largest week for a Latin title since Billboard began tracking albums by equivalent album units in December 2014.

Billboard’s Top Latin Artists, Top Latin Albums and Top Hot Latin Songs of the 21st Century recaps reflect performance on weekly charts dated Jan. 1, 2000, through Dec. 28, 2024. The Top Latin Artists category ranks the best-performing acts in that span based on activity on Top Latin Albums and Hot Latin Songs. (Titles released prior to mid-1999 are excluded, although such entries that appeared on Top Latin Albums or Hot Latin Songs in that span contribute to the calculation of the Top Latin Artists chart.) The Top Producers of the 21st Century on the Hot Latin Songs Chart reflects producers with the most No. 1s on weekly Hot Latin Songs charts dated Jan. 1, 2000, through Dec. 28, 2024, with ties broken by most top 10s and most overall chart entries.

Darius Rucker is engaged! The singer-songwriter revealed on Wednesday morning (Oct. 8) that he popped the question to his girlfriend, Emily Deahl.

Rucker shared two photos on Instagram: one of Rucker down on one knee proposing to Deahl, and another of the happy couple showing off her large engagement ring.

“Thank you for showing me a level of happiness I have never known,” Rucker captioned the post. “The day I met you I knew I didn’t want to go another one without you. Now I don’t have to.”

According to Deahl’s YouTube page, she’s a singer, songwriter and content creator who has released singles including “22,” “EMILY” and “Tarantino.”

Deahl also shared the engagement pics on her Instagram Stories. “I never intended on keeping this part of my life from you guys for so long, but somewhere along the way of loving him I discovered how sacred love is to me,” she wrote. “And all I wanted to do was protect it. But damn I’m glad I don’t have to spend the time photoshopping him out of every photo now.”

Rucker was previously wed to Beth Leonard; they announced their breakup in 2020 after two decades of marriage.

Musically, things are also shining for Rucker. He recently saw Hootie & The Blowfish’s collaboration with Scotty McCreery, “Bottle Rockets,” soar to No. 1 on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart. The track, which also reworks the group’s ’90s hit “Hold My Hand” marks the first country No. 1 for the group.

Rucker also teamed with R.E.M. bassist-vocalist Mike Mills and The Black Crowes drummer Steve Gorman to form the new trio Howl Owl Howl, who will be touring later this fall.

While the U.S. House continues to be adjourned in the midst of an increasingly tense government shutdown, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson took time out this week to weigh in on next year’s Super Bowl halftime performer Bad Bunny. Following in the footsteps of Donald Trump, Johnson threw cold water on the NFL’s decision to tap arguably the biggest male pop star on the planet by calling the booking a “terrible decision,” telling a reporter on Tuesday (Oct. 7) that he “didn’t even know who Bad Bunny was.”

“Well it sounds like he’s not someone who appeals to a broader audience,” said Johnson of Benito, who holds records for being the first Latin artist to have 100 career Billboard Hot 100 songs, as well as having the first all-Spanish album to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart (2020’s El Ultimo Tour Del Mundo) and has tied Taylor Swift for having the most No. 1s on the Billboard Global 200 of any solo artist. In addition, Bunny has the record for the most-streamed album of all time on Spotify with his 2022 LP Un Verano Sin Ti and is consistently one of the service’s most-streamed global artists, holding the top spot for three consecutive years from 2020-2022 while racking up 80 million monthly Spotify listeners over the course of his career.

In addition, Bad Bunny’s historic, 31-date No Me Quiero Ir de Aquí residency at Puerto Rico’s Coliseo broke all previous sales records for the venue and the livestream of his final residency show became the single most-watched livestream in the history of Amazon Music.

“There’s so many eyes on the Super Bowl, a lot of young, impressionable children,” Johnson continued, before proposing what he said was a more unifying, appropriate choice for the most-watched musical performance of the year, a “role model” like 82-year-old 1980s country singer Lee Greenwood. “Not somebody like this.”

Greenwood, beloved by Trump for his signature 1984 anthem “God Bless the U.S.A.,” hasn’t released a new album since 2003’s Stronger Than Time. The country star performed “God Bless the U.S.A.” at the 2024 Republican National Convention and more recently at the Sept. 21 memorial for Turning Point founder Charlie Kirk.

Though Bad Bunny hosted Saturday Night Live last weekend and is one of the most recognizable faces in modern pop, Trump similarly claimed to have no knowledge of him, telling conservative outlet NewsMax last week that he also “never heard of him. I don’t know who he is,” while referring to the singer incorrectly as “Bad Bunny Rabbit.”

Trump called the pick “crazy,” and then took aim at Roc Nation and Jay-Z, who choose the halftime performer. “And then they blame it on some promoter that they hired to pick up entertainment,” Trump said. “I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.”

Johnson and Trump have joined the chorus of right-wing commentators who’ve questioned the choice, with Trump’s former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, dubbing the pick “shameful” and claiming that Benito “seems to hate America so much,” despite the fact that the singer’s homeland, Puerto Rico, is a U.S. territory. Lewandowski also warned that United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents would be on the ground at the Super Bowl in Santa Clara, Calif. on Feb. 8. Homeland Security secretary Kristi Noem doubled-down on those comments, confirming that ICE agents would be “all over” the Super Bowl.

The right has also complained that Benito — who has been openly critical of the Trump administration’s ICE raids in his native Puerto Rico — will sing primarily in Spanish, a topic he playfully broached during his SNL hosting stint over the weekend. “I’m doing the Super Bowl Halftime Show and I’m very happy. I think everyone is happy about it — even Fox News,” he joked in his monologue. He then shared a message in Spanish about the importance of representing his community at the big game, switching back to English to offer some helpful advice: “If you didn’t understand know what I just said, you have four months to learn!”

Before Cristela Alonzo utters a word in her third Netflix special, Upper Classy, she stops to take a sip out of a glass perched on a stool stage right. “I had to make sure I drank some water,” the first generation Mexican-American comedian explains. “Room temperature — because I hate ice.” The Dallas crowd roars its approval.

And about 40 minutes into his debut special for HBO Max, Model Comedian, Caleb Hearon shares that his favorite straight guys right now are conservative Republicans: “I love em! I think they’re so funny, because they all hate gay people so much and they’re such f—ots.” (On JD Vance: “Have you ever seen a man need that much mascara to look compelling? Not even handsome. Just compelling.”)

Politics is more an undercurrent than a focus in both of these hours, both of which were taped in June, about three months before Jimmy Kimmel’s brief albeit chilling suspension from the ABC airwaves. But it’s there, and it’s as unmistakably oppositional as it is funny.

With industry chatter continuing about a possible acquisition of HBO-Max parent company Warner Bros. Discovery by the newly right-leaning Paramount — well, it’s fair to wonder just how long the major streamers will continue to deliver comedy as smart, funny, and progressive as the specials that follow in alphabetical order.

Speaking of smart, funny, and progressive, Thief of Joy finds Gianmarco Soresi worrying about pronouns: “I just don’t always feel like I fit the specific box that society has laid out,” he says. “I don’t always like the feeling of meeting someone for the first time and being like, ‘Gianmarco Soresi: he, him.’ I think it would be more accurate to be like, ‘Gianmarco Soresi: he, him — but I’ll smile if you call me girl!’”

And if Take Me With You is your introduction to Jordan Jensen, buckle up: you are in for a wild ride, as well one of this year’s best hours of comedy to date. Find more on our favorite comedy specials of October below.

Fifty years after Linda Ronstadt’s Prisoner in Disguise came out, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee is looking back at the album that further cemented her reputation as a ‘70s pop superstar and supreme song interpreter, as Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab reissues the set.

Ronstadt’s major breakthrough had come earlier in the year with her seminal Heart Like a Wheel album, her first set to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Prisoner in Disguise was also top five, reaching No. 4.

Ronstadt brought her powerhouse, supple vocals to the Peter Asher-produced album, whether it be on her tender version of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” (the two later came together with Emmylou Harris for the revered group Trio), as well as a gorgeous interpretation of Smokey Robinson’s “Tracks of My Tears” and spunky, upbeat take on Martha and the Vandellas’ “Heat Wave,” which reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The 180-gram, 45RPM two-LP vinyl set is available for order now via mofi.com and was mastered from the original analog master tapes.

In a letter obtained by Billboard, Ronstadt writes, “It’s hard to believe that it’s been [50] years since the initial release of my sixth solo album, Prisoner in Disguise. Thinking back over that half-century, there are several things that stand out in my memory.”

The letter serves almost as a time capsule of the history of Southern California rock and the incredible singer/songwriter community that she surrounded herself with in the ‘70s, whether it be Don Henley and Glenn Frey, who were in her band before leaving to found the Eagles, or upon first hearing the title track, written by J.D. Souther.

Ronstadt also recalls her reaction to Robinson’s “Tracks of My Tears” and reveals her secret feelings for the former Miracle: “I’m a soprano, and Smokey has a beautiful, soprano-like voice and sings in my keys, so I could easily sing along with him on the radio. This made me to want to record the song. Four years before that, when Don Henley and Glenn Frey were first in my band, we played a gig at Disneyland on the same bill as the Staple Singers and Smokey and the Miracles. In between shows, we all joined in a backstage poker game to help pass the time, but I admonished Glenn, an aggressive card player, not to win against Smokey because I had a crush on Smokey and I was afraid he wouldn’t like me if he lost too much money to my guitar player.”

In addition to addressing the now legendary singer/songwriters who contributed tracks, including Neil Young, James Taylor, Jimmy Cliff and Lowell George, Ronstadt gives special credit to a source of support who was left out of the original liner notes: “I also remember one special friend – Alfred Bear. That was the name I gave to the three-foot teddy bear that Peter Asher installed in the vocal booth for me during the sessions for the project. I recall that I was distraught about something at the time, probably some guy. I guess you could say that Alfred would qualify as a support animal, for he was certainly a great comfort to me. Sadly, his name did not make it into the original credits, but I’m taking this opportunity to correct that right now. Thank you, Alfred.”

In 2021, Ronstadt, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2012, sold her recorded music assets to Irving Azoff’s Iconic Music Group. The deal formed a partnership between Iconic and Ronstadt and her business team — including manager John Boylan and Janet Stark — to market her catalog and preserve her legacy in the digital era.

Below is Ronstadt’s letter in full:

It’s hard to believe that it’s been fifty years since the initial release of my sixth solo album, “Prisoner in Disguise.” Thinking back over that half-century, there are several things that stand out in my memory.

I remember being very glad to get a demo from my friend Neil Young, and I was immediately taken with a song called “Love is a Rose.” It became the opening track on the album. Other great songwriters, including James Taylor, Dolly Parton, Jimmy Cliff, Lowell George, Anna McGarrigle, and the Motown trio of Holland, Dozier, and Holland, contributed wonderful songs I couldn’t wait to sing. My good friend, Emmylou Harris, came on board to sing a duet on the country classic, “The Sweetest Gift.”

I remember hearing “Tracks of My Tears” and falling in love with Smokey Robinson’s amazing vocal. I’m a soprano, and Smokey has a beautiful, soprano-like voice and sings in my keys, so I could easily sing along with him on the radio. This made me to want to record the song. Four years before that, when Don Henley and Glenn Frey were first in my band, we played a gig at Disneyland on the same bill as the Staple Singers and Smokey and the Miracles. In between shows, we all joined in a backstage poker game to help pass the time, but I admonished Glenn, an aggressive card player, not to win against Smokey because I had a crush on Smokey and I was afraid he wouldn’t like me if he lost too much money to my guitar player.

I remember recording the album’s title song, a beautiful ballad written by John David Souther. I sang the opening verse with just JD on acoustic guitar, later joined by Andrew Gold on piano, and finally, a gorgeous string and woodwind arrangement by David Campbell. Listening to it now, I am struck mostly by JD’s utterly original harmony vocal. He had an uncanny knack for picking out just the right notes to add poignancy or irony to the story.

I also remember one special friend – Alfred Bear. Thank you, Alfred.

Lastly, I’d like to add a sincere thank you to all the remarkable people who helped me record this album, with a special thanks to everyone who listened.

LONDON — Isabel Garvey announced on Wednesday (Oct. 8) that she would be stepping down from her role of chief operations officer at Warner Music U.K. at the end of the year.

In an internal memo obtained by Billboard U.K., Garvey writes that she has decided “to step down from my role” and leave Warner Music U.K., adding that it is “the right decision for me and for the company.”

“Without a COO role, and our label heads joining the global management teams of Atlantic and Warner Records, the central functions will all be led by Simon [Robson, president, EMEA, Recorded Music], ensuring the new structure is simple and the lines of accountability are clear.”

The news comes amidst a major leadership reshuffle at the major’s U.K. arm. In September it was announced that Tony Harlow, chief executive of Warner Music U.K. would be exiting the business, and that several U.K. executives from Warner Records and Atlantic Records would join the global leadership team of their U.S. counterparts and collaborate more closely across A&R and marketing strategies.

In the memo to staff, Garvey highlighted the U.K. successes of Alex Warren, Benson Boone, Charli xcx, Ed Sheeran, Sombr and Teddy Swims in recent years, adding that the team had “navigated a tough market and punched well above our weight.” She continued, “Through a period of significant change, I’ve been so impressed by your resilience and adaptability, and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together.”

In a note to Warner staff, Robson praised how Garvey “shaped our approach and culture at a time of seismic change in the industry, and Warner Music has benefited enormously from her strategic thinking and fresh perspective.”

Garvey assumed the role in May 2023 and joined following a stint as managing director of Abbey Road Studios. She appeared in Billboard U.K.‘s inaugural U.K. Power Players list in June 2025.
