Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club is closing its doors earlier than planned following Billy Porter’s sudden departure from the production due to health concerns.
On Sunday (Sept. 7), producers of the Broadway revival announced that the 55-year-old Tony Award-winning actor and musician, who stars as the Emcee, is recovering from a “serious case” of sepsis, according to People. While Porter is expected to make a full recovery, doctors have advised him to rest.

“Billy was an extraordinary Emcee, bringing his signature passion and remarkable talent,” wrote producer Adam Speers of ATG Productions. “We wish Billy a speedy recovery and I look forward to working with him again in the very near future.”
As a result, the acclaimed revival of the John Kander and Fred Ebb musical — which began its Broadway run in April 2024 with Eddie Redmayne and Gayle Rankin — will now conclude its engagement at New York City’s August Wilson Theatre on Sept. 21, nearly a month earlier than its originally scheduled closing date of Oct. 19.
Porter and actress-singer Marisha Wallace, who stars as Sally Bowles, joined the production on July 22 after a run in London’s West End.
In the Broadway show’s final weeks, the role of the Emcee will be performed in rotation by longtime alternates Marty Lauter and David Merino, with the performance schedule to be shared on Cabaret’s official social media channels.
Originally debuting on Broadway in 1966 and later adapted into the iconic 1972 film, Cabaret follows a group of characters navigating the final days of Weimar Germany, embracing the hedonistic, impoverished lifestyles of Berlin while ignoring the Nazi party’s rise to power.
Porter’s departure comes amid declining box office performance for the high-cost production. Grosses have dipped to around $500,000, with audience capacity falling below 70% in recent weeks, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Congratulations are in order for Perrie Edwards and her fiancé, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who are expecting their second child together.
On Saturday (Sept. 6), the 32-year-old Little Mix singer announced that she and the professional football player, also 32, are preparing to welcome a new addition to their growing family.
“Guess what hunnies…,” Perrie captioned an adorable video on Instagram, adding a red heart emoji.
In the black-and-white clip, Perrie wears a white T-shirt with the phrase, “If He Wanted To He Would…” printed on the back. As she turns around, she reveals her baby bump along with a message on the front of the shirt that reads, “…and He Did!” Moments later, her fiancé and their 3-year-old son, Axel, step into the frame to share a sweet family embrace.
The joyful announcement comes after Perrie opened up about a heartbreaking pregnancy loss following the birth of Axel in 2021. In a candid interview on the We Need to Talk podcast in August, the “Shout Out to My Ex” singer reflected on one of the most difficult periods of her life.
“Axel wasn’t even walking yet and we were pregnant,” the X Factor alum said. “I found out when I was rehearsing for the Little Mix tour. I was at rehearsals and I thought, ‘Oh I don’t feel good.’ Every symptom under the sun so I was like, ‘I think I’m pregnant.’”
While tests confirmed she was expecting again, something felt off once she began touring in April 2022 with her Little Mix bandmates Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall.
“Every night before a show, I kept bleeding,” Perrie said. “I remember sitting and thinking, ‘This is it, I’ve lost the baby.’”
Despite reassuring check-ups early on, she later received devastating news during her 20-week scan.
“That was just the worst day of my life, like horrendous,” she said, explaining how traumatic the experience was. “I just knew something was wrong in the scan.” She continued, “I think when you’re fully carrying and you’re 24 weeks and you’ve planned out like their room and all these things, it’s really hard.”

Residente‘s combative rhymes, along with his messages of Latin American pride and resistance in favor of Palestine, shook Mexico City’s Zócalo on Saturday (Sept. 6) during a free concert the Puerto Rican star offered at the country’s main public square. The event drew 180,000 attendees, according to figures from the city government.
In an emotional night, the famous rapper electrified the heart of the city capital with his powerful blend of protest music, activism and memory, delivering the best of his solo repertoire as well as hits from Calle 13, the band he co-founded in 2004 with his siblings. The evening also featured Mexican singer-songwriter Silvana Estrada as a special guest and highlighted the presence of the Abed family, Palestinian refugees living in Mexico.
The words of the 29-time Latin Grammy winner carried even greater weight given the symbolic location — a square where politics, social movements, culture and religion converge. It is the third-largest public square in the world, after Tiananmen Square in Beijing and the Red Square in Moscow.
“Everyone deserves equal opportunities. We need to support access to education, and it can be achieved. Thank you for being here with all your energy. I love you, Mexico,” Residente told the audience during his performance, which was attended by Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada.
The artist returned to this significant venue after six years, invited by the city’s Department of Culture. However, this marked the first time he performed a solo concert in the iconic location, which has hosted other global stars such as Paul McCartney, Roger Waters, Justin Bieber, Manu Chao, Shakira, Rosalía, Café Tacvba and the late icon of Mexican regional music, Vicente Fernández.
The two-hour show unfolded with socially conscious music, diverse rhythms and the unique voice of René Pérez Joglar (his real name), who showed his most vulnerable side by reflecting on a deeply personal experience encapsulated in the song “René.” He also paid tribute to the great Argentine musician Gustavo Cerati, revealing that they had planned to record “La Vuelta Al Mundo” together.
To open the night, the collective Mujer en Cypher: Barras, beats y resistencia en femenino — composed of Arianna Puello, Ximbo, Niña Dioz, Prania Esponda, Azuky and Mena — took the stage with a powerful message and fierce rhymes.

Cardi B is putting in the footwork as she hits the streets of New York City to promote her upcoming sophomore album, Am I the Drama?
On Saturday (Sept. 6), the 32-year-old Billboard cover star shared a video on social media showing her staging a playful, grassroots-style album sale. In the clip, Cardi sets up shop on a busy NYC sidewalk, laying out various copies of her album on a black sheet and shouting out exaggerated bargain prices to passersby.
“My label said I gotta get out in these streets and sell this album,” Cardi captioned the video on Instagram.
Wearing a Rastacap and a black While We Wait Kehlani hoodie, Cardi waves bundles of burning incense while yelling prices like a street vendor while Bob Marley’s “One Love” plays in the background.
“$9.99! You got $50 right here,” the “WAP” rapper shouts, pointing to the copies on display. “$20! $9.99 for the new ones!” She continues, “What up, y’all? We got the exclusive Cardi B new album. We got the vinyls, we got the CDs, we got the [Courtroom] Edition. $9.99!”
The Grammy winner’s fellow artists quickly flooded her comments with support and humor. Diplo joked, “I bought fourty,” while Kehlani chimed in with, “lmao sick hoodie twin” and Tyla added simply, “Girl 😂.”
Cardi B’s long-awaited sophomore album, Am I the Drama?, is set to drop on Sept. 19. The 23-track project will feature both of her Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits: 2020’s “WAP” and 2021’s “Up.”
She also recently appeared on the cover of Billboard, where she opened up about the anticipation surrounding her second studio album.

Fans in the crowd on Saturday night (Sept. 7) spotted Paul McCartney in a suite with his phone camera in the air, capturing Gallagher singing Heathen Chemistry‘s “Little by Little,” a No. 2 hit on the U.K.’s Official Singles chart. Later in the night, when Liam Gallagher took lead vocals on the 1994 single “Whatever,” he added a few lines of The Beatles’ Abbey Road single “Octopus’ Garden” for an outro (as they’ve done live for awhile now), but Liam probably didn’t expect to be performing live and in person for a Beatle.
After the show, a paparazzo captured McCartney heading to his car and asked how the show was. He made an OK gesture with his hand and simply responded, “Fabulous.” Watch the video here.
Fans on social media were eating up the moment of McCartney — the only one standing in his section — filming Noel onstage, with one writing alongside the video: “Sir Paul McCartney watching Oasis tonight in Los Angeles. When Oasis came out of the gate in the ’90s with the one-two punch of 1994’s Definitely Maybe and 1995’s What’s the Story (Morning Glory)?, they were often compared to The Beatles because of the band’s strong influence on the Gallaghers’ musical style, but they got off to a rocky start because of Noel Gallagher’s “bigger than The Beatles” comment, but in a 2021 interview, Noel reflected on the time, saying, “When Oasis started, we were so big we were compared to [The Beatles] size-wise and musically, embarrassingly, compared to them as well.” When the interviewer asked why it was embarrassing, he said: “Because we weren’t as good as them.”
Also in 2021, Noel Gallagher played a set at the 50th birthday of Paul’s daughter Stella McCartney and even joined Sir Paul for The Beatles’ “Birthday” and “I Saw Her Standing There.”

And then there were three. On Sunday (Sept. 7), just hours before the 2025 MTV VMAs goes live, MTV revealed the top three finalists for best new artist: Alex Warren, sombr and The Marías.
Ella Langley, Gigi Perez and Lola Young were the other three nominees who failed to advance to the final round of voting. All six artists are seen as strong candidates in the upcoming Grammy race for best new artist. (Grammy nominations will be announced on Nov. 7.)

With Warren, sombr and The Marías advancing, we already know that the winner will not be a female solo artist for the first time since 2017, when Khalid won. If The Marías win, they’ll be the first group to take the honor since 2016, when DNCE won.
The winners since 2017 have been Cardi B (2018), Billie Eilish (2019), Doja Cat (2020), Olivia Rodrigo (2021), Dove Cameron (2022), Ice Spice (2023) and Chappell Roan (2024).
Warren and sombr are both set to perform on this year’s VMAs. Warren has four total nominations — the others being song of the year, song of the summer and best pop, all for his megahit “Ordinary.”
Sombr has three nominations, the others being best alternative for “Back to Friends” and song of the summer for “12 to 12.”
The Marías also have three nominations, the others being best group and best alternative for “Back to Me.” The female-fronted indie pop band is the only group or duo to receive two or more nominations this year.

The legendary star, who turns 90 on Oct. 1, is not the oldest woman to win a Primetime Emmy. Her longtime pal Carol Burnett was approaching 91 when she won most her most recent Emmy in January 2024. The two stars made three acclaimed TV specials together.
Andrews had won two previous Primetime Emmys – outstanding variety musical series in 1973 for her weekly series The Julie Andrews Hour, and outstanding non-fiction series in 2005 for hosting Broadway: The American Musical for PBS. Andrews has also won two Grammys and an Oscar. Unfortunately, the Broadway legend never won a Tony, despite three nominations, keeping her from EGOT status.
Mick Giacchino won his first Primetime Emmy – outstanding music composition for a limited or anthology series, movie or special for The Penguin. Giacchino is the son of famed composer Michael Giacchino, who won a Primetime Emmy 20 years ago for Lost. The elder Giacchino has also won an Oscar and three Grammys.
Christopher Lennertz won his first Primetime Emmy – outstanding music and lyrics for the song “Let’s Put the Christ Back in Christmas,” which he wrote for The Boys. Lennertz beat strong competition, including high-profile songs by SNL alums Adam Sandler and Amy Poehler.
Cristobal Tapia de Veer won his fourth Primetime Emmy, all earned for his work on The White Lotus. He won this year for outstanding original main title theme music.
Theodore Shapiro won outstanding music composition for a series (original dramatic score) for the second time for his work on Severance.
Gabe Hilfer won outstanding music supervision for his work on The Studio. It’s his second win in that category for his work on a buzzy series. He won two years ago for The White Lotus.
The Creative Arts Emmys are being presented over two nights, Saturday, Sept. 6, and Sunday, Sept. 7. Highlights from the two ceremonies will air Saturday, Sept. 13, at 8 p.m. PT on FXX.
The Studio was the big winner on Night 1, with nine awards. Other programs with multiple awards were The Penguin (eight); Severance (six); Andor, Arcane and Love, Death + Robots (four each); The Boys and Bridgerton (three each); and Adolescence and The Pitt (two each).
The Primetime Emmys will be telecast live coast-to-coast on Sunday, Sept. 14, from 8 to 11 p.m. ET on CBS and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. Comedian Nate Bargatze is hosting for the first time.

“Some of you may know, some of you may not know, but I had breast cancer surgery 11 weeks ago today,” Jessie J told the crowd at Saturday’s concert in Chelmsford, Essex, the Daily Mail reports.
“And the last show I did, I had no idea what was gonna happen, and I’m still very much in the recovery process,” she said. “But I’m definitely not ready for Babins. I mean, I am, but my doctors are like, ‘Calm down, girl.’ Do you know what I mean, you can take the girl out of Essex, put her back in to Essex.”
“But I’m just so grateful to be here,” said the singer. “You have no idea how grateful I am to see so many of you singing along after all these years. It truly feels like I’m a little kid. Still doing what I love.”
“And another special thing that’s happening today is that my son is seeing me sing on stage for the first time,” she added, according to the Daily Mail. Headphones on to protect his ears, two-year-old Sky even got to go up to the mic to say hello and sing “Happy Birthday” to anyone in the crowd who happened to be celebrating a birthday, fan video footage from the concert shows.
Ahead of her first surgery, Jessie J revealed in June that she’d received an “early breast cancer” diagnosis back in April.
Six weeks after surgery, she returned to the hospital with symptoms that turned out to be the result of an infection. In July, she underwent tests that showed the cancer had not spread and shared an emotional message thanking her fans for their prayers and positive energy.
As part of her performance on Saturday, Jessie J performed new song “Living My Best Life” and explained the story behind the track.
“I was diagnosed literally two weeks before this song was released,” she said. “Everyone said, ‘Let’s stop, let’s just put everything on hold,’ and I said, ‘That’s not what life’s about.’”
“Life is about standing in the storm but holding up your umbrella and just keep moving forward,” she said. “And music, I don’t know about you guys, but for me, music is a healer. Music is the thing that keeps me wanting to wake up in the morning and just makes me excited about life. And I’m grateful that I can make music that can give other people something that they might need on a hard day or a good day. So this song is called ‘Living My Best Life,’ and that is what I’m doing every single damn day. ‘Cause we never know when our last day will be. So soak this up, hug the people you love hard.”

Selena Gomez is reviving Revival on vinyl for the album’s 10-year anniversary.
Released on Oct. 9, 2015, Revival reigned for a week No. 1 on the Billboard 200 upon its debut, and spent a total of 69 weeks on the chart. Singles “Good for You”, “Same Old Love” and “Hands to Myself” were top 10 hits for Gomez on the Hot 100.
A Revival 10-year anniversary deluxe vinyl edition is now available to pre-order exclusively on Gomez’s webstore, where it’s pictured in maroon and shown with a photo insert of the pop star. The release features a new album cover.
“This is my Revival,” Gomez wrote in a Friday (Sept. 5) announcement on X. “Pre-order the Revival 10-Year Anniversary Deluxe Vinyl now. This is the very first time the Revival Deluxe album is available on vinyl and I’m so excited for you to have the entire collection.”
The new Revival vinyl has a total of 14 tracks. Compared to the album’s standard 11-song track list, the LP adds “Me & My Girls,” “Nobody” and “Perfect” — all of which were originally included on the deluxe edition of Revival released in North America. (Additional Revival-era bonus tracks “Outta My Hands (Loco)” and “Cologne,” found on a Target edition of the album, are not on this release.)
Pre-orders for the Revival deluxe vinyl are expected to ship on Oct. 3, which happens to be the same day Gomez’s friend Taylor Swift releases The Life of a Showgirl.
The announcement for the anniversary release comes while Gomez is busy getting ready to marry Benny Blanco. The bride-to-be shared snapshots from her bachelorette party ahead of the couple’s wedding.

On Friday (Sept. 5), the legendary punk rock band unveiled an official poster and first trailer for the coming-of-age comedy, which is directed by Lee Kirk.

“Coming soon: @newyearsrevmovie. The story of three young punks willing to risk it all to follow their dream,” the trio wrote on Instagram alongside the film’s poster.
Described as a “wild road trip comedy,” the 55-second trailer opens with two teenagers taking bong hits in a dimly lit room plastered with posters, reflecting on the day they “almost opened up for Green Day.” Set to Green Day’s 2004 anthem “Holiday,” the fast-paced teaser follows the teens as they borrow a taxi and embark on a chaotic cross-country journey in an attempt to open for Green Day on New Year’s Eve.
The trailer ends with a high-energy concert clip featuring frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tré Cool rocking out on stage, followed by the message: “Coming Soon.”
Dubbed “A Green Day Story,” New Years Rev centers on a fictional garage band called The Analog Dogs, whose biggest dream is to meet and open for their punk idols. When the trio finally manages to get their demo tape into the right hands, they believe they’ve scored a once-in-a-lifetime gig opening for Green Day. But they soon find out the opportunity was an elaborate prank orchestrated by one of their brothers.
“Nevertheless, naively optimistic, the young trio set off on the road from Kansas to California, with wide-eyed dreams of being on stage alongside their heroes,” reads an official synopsis.
Green Day previously described the film as a heartfelt tribute to “road trip movies, ’90s nostalgia, and chasing the dream no matter how ridiculous it gets.” The soundtrack features more than a dozen of the group’s tracks.
New Years Rev‘s cast includes Mason Thames, Mckenna Grace, Fred Armisen, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, and comedian Bobby Lee. The film premieres on Sept. 12 at the Toronto International Film Festival. It’s co-produced by Green Day and Live Nation Productions.
