On July 16, Coldplay’s generally controversy-free Music of the Spheres World Tour rolled through Foxborough, Mass., just south of Boston. A day later, the show had gone viral because of its fan-cam moment gone-wrong. Internet discourse lit up, but the attention also drove listeners to the band’s sprawling catalog, sending streams shooting toward the (sky full of) stars in the days that followed.
In the five days before the show (July 12-16), Coldplay’s catalog received 28.7 million official U.S. on-demand audio streams, according to Luminate. In the five days following (July 17-21), that number surged by 25% to 35.7 million.
The day after the concert (July 17), listens stayed steady, up just 2% as memes spread. The conversation translated to streams more significantly the next day, up 15% from 6.6 million to 7.6 million. That remains the high mark for Coldplay’s streams this month.
Gains are fairly consistent throughout Coldplay’s catalog but are topped by 2005’s “Fix You.” Notably quoted in a widely circulated fake apology from former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron, the iconic ballad soared by 34%, from 1.1 million (July 12-16) to 1.5 million (July 17-21). “Hymn for the Weekend” (2015) and “The Scientist” (2002) each bumped by 27%, and this year’s TikTok-resurgent “Sparks” (2000)…well, sparked by 18%.
Coldplay’s catalog has already been a mainstay on Billboard’s charts. Six of the band’s tracks appear on the July 26-dated Billboard Global 200 (based on the tracking week July 11-17), the most recent of which was released eight years ago (2017’s “Something Just Like This,” with The Chainsmokers). Since the band’s most notable streaming increase occurred on July 18, as noted above, chart gains could show on next week’s rankings.
The Music of the Spheres World Tour launched in 2022 and continues through a 10-night run at London’s Wembley Stadium that wraps on Sept. 8. It’s already in the record books as the best-selling tour in history, over 11.7 million tickets so far.

The Memphis rapper’s arrest came after law enforcement searched her home following a burglary while Glo was out of town for her performance at the WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday (July 20).
GloRilla turned herself in to Forsyth County Jail on Tuesday (July 22), where she was booked on a charge of felony possession of marijuana and a separate charge of possession of a Schedule I controlled substance.
The CMG artist says she doesn’t understand how her home being burglarized could lead to her arrest while she’s not even present. “CRAZY My House got Home Invaded Saturday While I was in Indianapolis performing for the WNBA all star game,” she wrote to X on Thursday (July 24). “Instead of Focusing on finding the Suspects , they focus on some cannabis.”
Glo continued to clear the air: “1. So no I wasn’t busted 2. My house got robbed 3. I wasn’t home Long story short my house gets home invaded and Im the only one that gets arrested. So that’s tea.”

The suspects fled the scene after being met with gunfire by occupants at Glo’s home, but no arrest warrants have been issued by police.
GloRilla posted a $22,260 bond to secure her release just hours after turning herself in. Glo’s attorney, Drew Findling, slammed law enforcement in a statement to Billboard, calling the arrest “a disturbing window into how warped law enforcement priorities have become.”
Findling concluded with another jab: “This is our tax dollars at work, absolutely unbelievable.”
GloRilla will host her first-ever Glo Bash on Friday (July 25) in her hometown of Memphis at FedEx Forum with performances from Sexyy Red, Rob 49 and Muni Long.

While speaking to The Guardianin an interview published Thursday (July 24) — just a couple of weeks ahead of her new album Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You — the indie-pop star revealed that she recently began her very first romantic relationship at the age of 27. “Love was always my final frontier,” she told the publication. “I never explored it.”
“I never progressed past the idea of love that I had as a teenager,” she continued, noting that her anxieties surrounding her newfound experiences with romance often made the recording process of Willoughby Tucker difficult — to the point where she would cry every day and beg for the album to feel finished.
“If [2022 album] Preacher’s Daughter was my learning experience of what not to do with trauma and healing, Willoughby Tucker has been my experience of what not to do in love,” Cain added. “The entire Preacher’s trilogy is centered around love. Love lost, love gained, love perverted, love stolen. Love is everything to us. It doesn’t matter what you love or who you love, but that you love something — and that love is what propels you forward every day. For better or worse, I think that is a beautiful thing.”
Dropping Aug. 8, WilloughbyTucker will follow January’s Perverts. Before that came Preacher’s Daughter, which rose to No. 10 on the Billboard 200 this past April after a vinyl reissue — making her the first-ever openly trans artist to reach the chart’s top 10.
The interview comes shortly after Cain released a statement explaining and apologizing for controversial remarks she made many years ago during a period of time she called “shameful.” She also wrote at the time that “transphobic” trolls had resurfaced her past comments as part of a “baseless attempt to assassinate my boyfriend’s character.”
“He will address these claims in his own time on his own terms and I support him wholeheartedly,” she added at the time.

On Thursday, (July 24), pro wrestling legend Hulk Hogan died. He was 71.
Processing The Hulkster’s legacy in real-time is tough — not just because of his greatness, but because of the blemishes that marred his career inside and outside the ring. Hogan undoubtedly revolutionized the wrestling industry in the 1980s and 1990s. He was the cornerstone and QB1 for Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Federation. He headlined seven out of the first eight WrestleManias. He grappled against Mr. T and body-slammed Andre the Giant.
During his prime, he was a burly locomotive with superhero intentions, encouraging kids to say their prayers and eat their vitamins while proving to be a magnetic crossover star, squaring off with Sylvester Stallone in Rocky III. He was The Rock before Dwayne, Cena before John. And when he crossed over to the dark side, going heel in 1996, it was the most significant role reversal ever in pro-wrestling history. Gone was the illusion of red and yellow, and the self-proclaimed “Real American.” In came Hollywood Hogan, the villainous leader of the New World Order. The dastardly invaders didn’t just plant their flag on WCW; they marked their territory and dominated the pro-wrestling scene, demolishing the WWF during their heated Monday Night Wars. Hogan did that.
But in his later years, his political alignment became part of his persona — one that Trump sorely valued. “We lost a great friend today, the ‘Hulkster,” Trump posted shortly following Hogan’s passing. “Hulk Hogan was MAGA all the way — Strong, tough, smart, but with the biggest heart. He gave an absolutely electric speech at the Republican National Convention. That was one of the highlights of the entire week. He entertained fans from all over the World, and the cultural impact he had was massive. To his wife, Sky, and family, we give our warmest best wishes and love. Hulk Hogan will be greatly missed!”
Hogan’s heelish persona bled outside the ring, and that’s why it’s hard to ignore that when remembering his life and career today. In 2015, leaked recordings revealed Hogan using the N-word while discussing his daughter’s dating life. Though Hogan sued Gawker and won over $100 million, his image was cooked. WWE terminated his contract and scrubbed him from TV for three years. Disdain for Hogan continued when he aligned himself with President Trump during last year’s Republican National Convention. In August, he sparked backlash again after making a racially charged joke about former Vice President Kamala Harris — capping it off by saying he’d give her a leg drop. Those strikes against Hogan not only alienated the Black and Brown communities but also sullied his legacy amongst wrestling fans and purists.
“He just doesn’t see, he doesn’t understand how what he does affects people around him,” said WWE superstar Seth Rollins in an interview last year with Outta Pocket. “I think he just lives in this space that he’s created for himself. He shaped his worldview, and he’s just this is how he’s going to see things. And I think if you’re going to be like that, people are going to treat you accordingly.”
Earlier this year, during WWE’s Monday Night Raw Netflix debut, fans greeted Hogan with a sea of boos as he haplessly tried promoting his Real American Beer. Distraught by the negative response, Hogan retreated to the back and never appeared again on WWE TV. That’s only a small fraction of the controversies he’s courted and faced significant backlash for over the years.
Though Hogan will be remembered for his in-ring classics, thunderous legdrops and spine-chilling mic drops, The Hulkster’s greatest opponent was always himself — and that match never got the standing ovation he always craved.

Billy Joel Shares Health Update, Says Brain Disorder ‘Sounds a Lot Worse Than What I’m Feeling…
In a recent video posted by the Piano Man on Instagram, Joel pulls up next to a man riding a bicycle, chauffeuring two women sitting in an attached passenger car while blasting the rocker’s iconic 1976 classic. Joel looks stunned as he greets the trio from the backseat window of his car, with the biker not recognizing him at first.
When it dawns on him that he’s looking at the creator of the song he’s playing, the “taxi” driver says excitedly: “We are playing you, man! Can I take a picture with you, please?”
The women in the back look just as psyched. “How are you feeling?” one of them asks, most likely referencing Joel’s recent normal pressure hydrocephalus diagnosis.
“We’re in a New York State of Mind … always,” Joel captioned the clip, adding a heart emoji.
The fateful interaction comes amid the rollout cycle for the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer’s new documentary, And So It Goes. Released July 18 on HBO Max, the two-parter explores Joel’s career as well as his personal battles, from struggling with alcohol abuse to mental health issues stemming from his affair with first wife Elizabeth Weber, who was married to one of Joel’s bandmates when they met.
As evidenced by the concerned passenger, however, what most people want to know now is how Joel is faring as he battles his illness — but in a recent interview with Bill Maher, the five-time Grammy winner said that it’s not as bad as it sounds. “I feel fine,” he said on an episode of Club Random Podcast. “My balance sucks. It’s like being on a boat … They keep referring to what I have as a brain disorder, so it sounds a lot worse than what I’m feeling.”

Over a decade since gospel singer-songwriter Tasha Cobbs Leonard released her debut record, she’s become known for her live worship albums, recorded in churches and venues including Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. But on her latest project Motown Gospel project Tasha, which comes out Friday (July 25), she and her husband, producer Kenneth Leonard Jr., stepped into a new creative challenge: her first album recorded fully in a studio.
“At first I was super nervous about it, I guess because it was just new,” Cobbs Leonard tells Billboard. “When you do something for the first time, just going in with the unknown, [you think] ‘How do I fit in the whole studio idea?’ But I quickly became very comfortable with it because I realized that it was just exploring different ways of me expressing worship.”
Recorded at Capitol Music Group’s studio in Nashville, the 15-song project features an eclectic mix of pop, hip-hop and ‘80s R&B. The album’s first single, “Already Good (Tasha Slide)” is a slice of uplifting Motown-esque pop and R&B accompanied by a line dance she calls the Tasha Slide. It also features collaborations with gospel music luminary Kirk Franklin, and R&B/pop hitmaker John Legend, Christian hip-hop artist Lecrae and worship artist Chandler Moore.
Tasha’s wide-ranging sounds reflect the myriad of musical experiences the three-time Grammy winner has participated in over the past few years from performing “Lift Every Voice and Sing” at the 2024 NFL season opener to appearing on the Jennifer Hudson show and taking part in the 2022 Soul Train Awards’ “Soul Cypher” segment alongside Muni Long, Durand Bernarr and Alex Vaughn. Though cross-genre collaborating isn’t new for Cobbs Leonard — she’s previously worked with artists including Common and Nicki Minaj — she took those recent creative opportunities to heart.
“Though I was used to leading worship on stages, it felt like God was showing me: ‘You’re also able to do this type of music that would reach a different crowd, someone who wants to meet God through the sounds that they enjoy,” she says.
The Georgia native, who co-pastors The Purpose Place Church in South Carolina with her husband, earned her first hit in 2013 with “Break Every Chain,” which spent seven weeks atop Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart. She’s sent five projects to the pinnacle of the Top Gospel Albums chart and issued chart-topping songs including” The Moment” and “Burdens Down.”
In 2024, Cobbs Leonard shared her story in her memoir Do It Anyway, where she opened up about her struggles with anxiety and depression, as well as her experience going through a miscarriage. Writing the book served as a change agent for the new album.
“What I didn’t expect going into it is how vulnerable I would have to be in writing that book,” she says. “When you get to that place, it’s hard to go back to being closed. The book set me up for this place of transparency that I’m in with my testimonies, so people can glean and grow and be encouraged to keep doing it anyway.”
On the new album, songs including “Do It Anyway,” the piano-led ballad “The Hand That Keeps Holding Me” and “Broken Pieces” touch on that journey and the spiritual faith that brought her through those struggles.
The album-making process started with a week-long songwriting camp, with Cobbs Leonard inviting Gospel singer-songwriter Travis Greene and five-time Grammy-winning worship group Maverick City Music members Naomi Raine and Chandler Moore (Moore is also featured on the album’s “I Want More”).
“I wanted writers that I love, writers that I knew would be able to come in and hear the vision of the record and the stories and testimonies of my life and be able to write songs that would fit the telling of that story,” Cobbs Leonard says.
She specifically brought in members of Maverick City Music because “the lyrical content of the songs Maverick City released, there’s no denying their gifts are so much greater than just the singing ability,” she says. “I felt like that purity and transparency was required for this album — songwriters who could dig deep into their emotional space and pull out songs people could relate to.”
Cobbs Leonard and Lecrae, who previously earned a Grammy for their collaboration “Your Power,” teamed up again on the new album on “I Needed God,” which features a rap interlude from Lecrae. The new pairing came after Cobbs Leonard appeared on Lecrae’s The Deep End podcast in February.
“At the end of the podcast, he looked at the camera and was like, ‘How many of y’all want to hear me and Tasha do something else together?’ and I was like, ‘Say less. Let’s do it.’ I did my vocals first, sent the track to him and he shot it right back with his verse and it worked like butter.”
Legend guests on “Church,” a song with a traditional gospel sound juxtaposed with lyrics that question how to sustain a spiritual connection beyond a Sunday morning church setting. After Cobbs Leonard asked her social media followers who they would like to see her collaborate with on the new album and Legend was the answer, a mutual friend of the two artists connected the pair.
“She grew up with John and they sang in church and in choirs together and had remained friends over the years,” Cobbs Leonard says. “He has been such a joy to work with. Him and his team, they are incredible. They have supported this song and album fully and that’s been such a blessing. I sent him the song and he sent his part back, and I was floored the way he brought this song to another level.”
Recording the album in a studio versus live gave Cobbs Leonard and her husband the opportunity to showcase the musical talents of their extended family, with the background vocals on “Church” featuring uncles, aunts, cousins and other family members.
Cobbs Leonard says sharing her story through song, in connection with blending different styles of music, helped her craft a multi-faceted project that showcases a fuller spectrum of her creativity.
“When I listen to it, it just feels like Tasha,” she says. “You get your worship, but you also get worship through a hip-hop track with Lecrae on it. One of the things I loved so much was getting to explore so many creative expressions of worship.”
Going forward, Cobbs Leonard says she’s open to recording more studio albums, but live remains her focus.
“I love them both now, and that would be interesting to mix both. But I’m a worship leader at the core. I love the local church. I love standing before crowds and introducing them to the awareness of God’s presence. So, whether it’s the next album or the one after that, we’re always going to get a live album from Tasha.”
