Tyla had everyone jumping from their seats during her performance of “Jump” with Gunna and Skillibeng at the 2024 BET Awards Sunday night (June 30).

Four women cleverly painted as different parts of a tiger laid across the floor of a cage, swishing its “tail” (one woman’s painted arm) before Skillibeng kicked off the performance with his memorable “Original gyal, you are no replica (No)” intro. Tyla descended upon the stage in a rope swing and boldly entered the cage before singing her viral lyric “They never had a pretty girl from Joburg. See me now, and that’s what they prefurrr.”

Gunna delivered his verse next to an elephant statue before Skilli re-entered the stage while being escorted by men on stilts that Tyla danced underneath.

After canceling her first headlining world tour and Coachella performance earlier this year due to an injury, Tyla has picked up a few performance gigs, including Spotify Beach at Cannes Lions and Afro Nation Portugal earlier this month. “Jump” is the latest single from her self-titled debut album, which was released in March via FAX and Epic Records. It’s currently No. 19 on Rhythmic Airplay and No. 3 on U.S. Afrobeats Songs (charts dated June 29).

Nominated for four awards, Tyla has already taken home two this evening for best new artist and best international act. She also scored nods for viewer’s choice award for her Billboard Hot 100 No. 7 smash “Water” and best female R&B/pop artist. Gunna is also up for three awards: best male hip-hop artist, album of the year with A Gift & A Curse and viewer’s choice award with “Fukumean.”

Taylor Swift‘s stage didn’t perform as planned at the start of “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” during Saturday’s show in Dublin.

As the pop icon launched into the first few lines of the track from The Tortured Poets Department — “Was any of it true/ Gazing at me starry-eyed/ In your Jehovah’s Witness suit/ Who the f— was that guy?” — concertgoers noticed the stage was malfunctioning. The elevated section Swift stood on had failed to lower when it was supposed to, leaving her momentarily stranded.

Swift didn’t flinch over the glitch.

Fortunately, she didn’t have to wait long for one of her dancers, Jan Ravnik, to lend a hand and help her down.

In a closeup video from Swift’s Tortured Poets set of the concert posted by a fan, it looks and sounds like the pop star’s trying to hold in laughter as Ravnik offers assistance.

The show must go on, and Swift’s three-and-a-half-hour show did.

Swift’s international Eras Tour was at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium for three concerts this weekend. Next, she’ll take the tour to Amsterdam for a trio of dates at Johan Cruijff Arena from July 4-6.

On Sunday, Billboard announced Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department remains at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart for a 10th consecutive, and total, week.

At this point, Swift has played the majority of the 31-track collection live on The Eras Tour at least once. The Tortured Poets section of the show includes tracks “But Daddy I Love Him,” a small taste of “So High School,” ‘Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” and “Down Bad,” which transitions to “Fortnight.” It wraps up with “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” (usually with a functioning stage) and “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”

Other tracks from the album have had their live debut in Swift’s acoustic section, in which she offers two surprise-song performances. This weekend’s firsts included “The Albatross” on Saturday and “Clara Bow” on Sunday for Stevie Nicks, who was in the VIP tent and filming Swift’s song with her cell phone.

The 2024 BET Awards hit the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday (June 30) evening. For the third time, Taraji P. Henson hosted, and the Academy Award-nominated actor helped open the show with a parody take on Kendrick Lamar’s Billboard Hot 100 topper “Not Like Us” after a medley performance by Megan Thee Stallion of songs from her new album, Megan, which dropped Friday.

Will Smith, Sexyy Red, Tyla, Shaboozey (joined by J-Kwon!), Victoria Monét, Latto, GloRilla and many more performed, with Usher receiving the lifetime achievement award at the 2024 BET Awards. Smith performed a dramatic version of his new song, “You Can Make It,” which features Fridayy and Sunday Service Chor. But at the BET Awards on Sunday, Smith delivered it alongside Chandler Moore, Kirk Franklin and Sunday Service Choir.

During the show, Henson took a break from parody songs, skits and repartee to make an impassioned speech, imploring viewers to vote in the presidential election come November. “It’s a serious time. It’s not just the presidential election,” Henson said. “Did you know that it is now a crime to be homeless? Pay attention. They are attacking our most vulnerable citizens. The Project 2025 plan is not a game. Look it up. They are trying to bring the draft back. Who do you think they’re going to draft first?! I’m not trying to scare us — I’m trying to inform us. We got three Supreme Court seats up, you guys – we need those seats or we have no protection.”

“You are in the smoke and the fire/ Tight rope on the wire/ I see you’re broken and tired/ And all your hope is expired/ You’re just done with the change and the games and the shame/ And the world is insane, all the pain from the flames,” Smith rapped while standing in a ring of fire.

But the Sunday Service Choir’s soothing harmonies and Moore’s sweet hook turned the track’s initial downtrodden mood upside down. “Don’t give up on me, I need you to hold on/ Know you’re deep up in the storm/ But I know you can face it (Face it), ayy/ It can get dark on the road and you’re feeling all alone/ Don’t lose sight of where you’re going/ ‘Cause I know you can make it, oh, woah,” Moore sang before a storm snuffed the fire and rained down on Smith.

“Yo, Will, if I can testify for a minute?” asked Kirk Franklin before walking up to deliver a sermon about persevering through tough times with God’s grace, while Smith and the Sunday Service Choir got into formation in the middle of the red-colored stage.

“Nobody gets an easy ride/ We all have a cross to bear/ But there’s wisdom in that fire/ And every moment in your life is an opportunity/ We are not being punished, we are being forged/ Dance in your darkness moments,” Smith said solemnly at the end of his performance while the “Dance In Your Darkest Moments” line flashed above on the screen.

“It’s a blessing, that’s a Philly legend. I grew up watching him my whole life. I recorded that hook in 2020 and I sent that to Ayo, and then I think Ayo started working with Will this year and just played him that hook. And he just jumped on the verses. So that’s a blessing,” Fridayy told Billboard‘s deputy director of R&B/hip-hop Carl Lamarre on the red carpet earlier this evening. “I talked to him a few times on the DM, but this the first time I’m meeting him.

St. Louis’ very own Sexyy Red shut the 2024 BET Awards down with her performance on Sunday (June 30) at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Sexyy hit the stage dipped in a red gown like a lounge singer, with a backing jazz band and dancers to perform the Drake featured “U My Everything.”

She then switched up the vibes completely and performed her smash hit “Get It Sexyy” on the steps of a set resembling the White House. The crowd went wild as she twerked in a white shirt and pinstriped skirt. You read that right: Her latest tape In Sexyy We Trust drove home the presidential theme.

She’ll be taking her show on the road with the recently announced Sexyy Red 4 President U.S. Tour set to kickoff in August in Seattle. She’s planning to hit 26 cities, with the last date being Oct. 1 in Nashville, and she’ll be performing live in her hometown of St. Louis on Sept. 13. Hunxho, Loe Shimmy and fellow St. Louis native BlakeIANA will be the openers. Tickets are already on sale and you can find them here.

Sexyy is also setting her sights on global domination as she’s going on a festival run across Europe with appearances at Wireless Festival, Roskilde and Rolling Loud Europe before returning to the States for her official campaign trail.

Both the songs she performed are holding strong on the Billboard Hot 100 charts with “Get It Sexyy” and “U My Everything” featuring Drake sitting at No. 38 and No. 59, respectively.

Normani is missing the 2024 BET Awards, where she was planning to perform Sunday night (June 30).

About a half hour before this year’s BET Awards were set to begin, the Dopamine artist shared an update regarding her appearance at the show via an Instagram Story.

In a message to fans, Normani revealed she’d been hard at work preparing a performance for the event, but has been sidelined due to “a really bad accident while in rehearsals.”

“I am devastated and hate feeling like a disappointment,” wrote Normani, whose performance seems to have been teased in a BET Awards ad spotted earlier this weekend.

“Unfortunately due to my doctor’s orders, I am just not able to make this performance happen,” she said Sunday night, explaining that going forward with the performance “would delay my healing.” Following this message she posted a snapshot of herself on crutches, with her foot/ankle in a walking boot or brace, and her knee wrapped in a bandage.

Billboard reached out to a representative for Normani, who said there’s no comment beyond what’s been shared on Instagram.

Normani’s note ended with an apology for having to bow out of the BET Awards so unexpectedly. “This is definitely NOT how I envisioned this weekend,” she said, “but best believe I will be championing everyone from home tonight.”

Normani, who was a member of girl group Fifth Harmony, unveiled her long-awaited debut studio album, Dopamine, on June 14 through RCA Records. Ahead of the album’s release, Normani dropped two singles: “1:59,” featuring Gunna, and “Candy Paint.” The set also includes her 2021 hit with Cardi B, “Wild Side.”

Of Dopamine, she told Billboard News, “I’m just grateful that everybody is just really excited still for this album and for this body of work. They’ve waited on me, which I don’t really take for granted.”

Read Normani’s full statement about the BET Awards:

“I am more frustrated and disappointed than anyone believe me. I wanted to get on here and give you guys an update letting you know that while in rehearsals for BET I had a really bad accident and injured myself. I am normally good for powering through under any circumstance but unfortunately due to my doctor’s orders, I am just not able to make this performance happen. I desperately wanted to give you my best on that stage but performing would delay my healing. I have been going through my process and doing my best to make sense of my feelings regarding this. I am devastated and hate feeling like a disappointment to you but I have to focus on recovering at this time. Trust me, I hear you, and I see you. There is nothing more that I wanted to do than perform for you and also, get back to doing what fulfills me most — BEING ON STAGE. Thank you so much for understanding. Sending my love to BET for giving me and all of the other beautiful black women this opportunity. This is definitely NOT how I envisioned this weekend but best believe I will be championing everyone from home tonight. I’m sorrrrrrrry guys and love you so much.”
