Beyond his illustrious career as an NBA legend and sportscaster, Bill Walton was a massive Deadhead. The 6′ 11″ center died on Monday (May 27) at age 71 following a battle with cancer, and the surviving members of the Grateful Dead paid tribute to their biggest fan during Dead & Company’s residency show at Las Vegas’ Sphere on Thursday (May 30).
During their performance of 1978’s “Fire on the Mountain,” the screen of the Sphere showed a montage of photos of Walton hanging out with the band, wearing the merch and more. The tribute also featured a stunning display of Walton’s jersey number, 32, adorned in tie dye and roses.
See the photos via Dead & Company’s Instagram here.
Earlier this week, following the news of Walton’s death, the band paid tribute to the late athlete in an Instagram post on the Dead & Company feed, saying, “Fare you well, fare you well, we love you more than words can tell. Bill was an irreplaceable force and spirit in our family. Father Time, Rhythm Devil, biggest deadhead ever. Over 1000 shows and couldn’t get enough. He loved this band and we loved him.”
The post continued, “We will miss our beloved friend, @BillWalton, deeply. Rest in peace and may the four winds blow you safely home. 🌹💀⚡️.” The post included several pics of Walton in tie dye outfits at Dead shows over the years, including times he’s worn elaborate, colorful costumes — most notably a “Father Time” outfit for Dead shows on New Year’s Eve.
Ready to captivate our present-day world and across dimensions, Armeggedon marks an artistic evolution in aespa‘s musical journey by taking their narrative into an expansive multiverse to blur the boundaries between reality and virtual realms.
While the K-pop girl group is known for blending their real and virtual personas, their first full-length album explores parallel worlds, giving KARINA, GISELLE, WINTER and NINGNING infinite possibilities as both otherworldly idols and relatable young women navigating adulthood.
The adventurous spirit of Armageddon was set through the pre-released buzz track “Supernova,” when the group speaks of opening doors to different dimensions and brought to life by the title track single’s music video establishing the aespa multiverse.
Last year, aespa saw Drama: The 4th Mini Album peak at No. 33 on the Billboard 200, a far drop from their two prior entries landing in the Top 10. But already “Supernova” has been well super received by listeners: debuting at No. 5 on the World Digital Song Sales chart last week for the group’s highest position since 2021’s “Next Level,” plus rising to No. 19 on this week’s Billboard Global 200 for their first Top 20 single. With the promising start, a larger amount of tracks ready for streaming, and a larger range of sounds and themes tackled in the LP, Armeggedon looks poised to boost aespa back up the album charts to reestablish the girls’ place as a leading force in K-pop.
From the singles “Armageddon” and “Supernova” to what are sure to become new beloved b-sides like “Live My Life,” “Prologue,” and the fan-dedicated anthem “Melody,” here’s our ranking of the songs on aespa’s first full-length album Armageddon.
Earlier this week, hackers on a “dark web” site claimed to have stolen data from hundreds of millions of Ticketmaster user accounts — but a source with knowledge of the investigation into the attack says there is no evidence that Ticketmaster fan accounts were compromised or that private user data was stolen.
Officials at Ticketmaster’s parent company, Live Nation, acknowledged a breach Friday (May 31) in a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing, noting it had identified “unauthorized activity within a third-party cloud database environment containing Company data (primarily from its Ticketmaster L.L.C. subsidiary) and launched an investigation with industry-leading forensic investigators to understand what happened.”
The statement noted that the company was “cooperating with law enforcement” and that “as of the date of this filing, the incident has not had, and we do not believe it is reasonably likely to have, a material impact on our overall business operations or on our financial condition or results of operations.”
According to the source, federal authorities are currently working to understand how a “dark web” site seized by the federal government was recaptured on Monday (May 27) by hackers with the group ShinyHunters and used to ransom 1.3 terabytes of private data allegedly stolen from Ticketmaster for $500,000. Investigators aren’t sure what, if any, Ticketmaster files are being held in the 1.3 terabyte file, the source adds.
The hack, the source tells Billboard, did not involve a breach of the core Ticketmaster system. Rather, company officials are looking at cloud hosting service Snowflake as a possible site of the hack. A hacker claiming to be involved in the attack told the website Bleeping Computer that they had breached Santander Bank and Ticketmaster after hacking into an employee’s account at Snowflake, which provides cloud hosting services for major companies. According to that report, Snowflake is disputing the claim. Billboard independently confirmed that Ticketmaster uses Snowflake’s cloud hosting service.
When reached for comment, Live Nation directed Billboard back to the SEC filing. Snowflake did not respond to a request for comment by press time.
Australian ticketing firm Ticketek also reported Friday that it had fallen victim to hackers, notifying customers that the names of some of its users, as well as their dates of birth and email addresses, may have been accessed in a data breach. In a statement on its site, Ticketet said the user information had been stored in a cloud-based platform hosted by a “reputable, global third-party supplier”.
“Ticketek has secure encryption methods in place for all passwords and no Ticketek customer account has been compromised,” company officials said in a statement. “Additionally, Ticketek utilises secure encryption methods for online payments and uses a separate system to process online payments, which has not been impacted. Ticketek does not hold identity documents for its customers.”
