Hip-hop legend Flavor Flav stopped by Billboard News and spoke to Rania Aniftos about using A.I. to translate his new track “Every Where Man” with Chuck D, recording new Public Enemy music, his potential return to reality TV, being a fan of Taylor Swift and more!

Flavor Flav:
I can hold some notes besides the national anthem.

Rania Aniftos:
We were gonna get into that!

Flavor Flav:
Don’t go there! Don’t go there!

Rania Aniftos:
We were gonna get into that!

Flavor Flav:
Don’t go there!

Ay yo, check this out. This is Flavor Flav, and this right here is Billboard News.

Rania Aniftos:
Hey, everybody! It’s Rania Aniftos with Billboard News, and it’s such an exciting day in the studio today because we have the one and only Flavor Flav. Welcome!

Flavor Flav:
In the building!

Rania Aniftos:
In the building! You are fresh off the release of an A.I. song, A.I. generated, A.I. facilitated track, “Every Where Man” featuring your old Public Enemy pal Chuck D. So tell me a bit about how that came together. What was the inspiration behind it?

Flavor Flav:
My partner Chuck D mentioned to me about doing a record called “Every Where Man” because I’m every … Flavor Flav is everywhere, man. You know what I’m saying? So, me and Chuck sat down. Chuck took the pen, put it to the paper. So really, Chuck D wrote this song. He writes it, I recite it like that, you know what I’m saying? So that’s how this record really came to be because Chuck is always ahead of his time, so we got this song now transposed into, like, 30 different languages. This song in Spanish, I was bugging out because I’m like, “Wow, listen to my voice in Spanish. Listen to my voice in …”

Rania Aniftos:
Korean!

Flavor Flav:
Like, Korean. Yeah, you know, and I never, ever thought that I wouldn’t be speaking Korean. You know what I’m saying? But hey, thanks to A.I.! And not only that, but I’m glad that this is happening because A.I. has been misused so much, you know? And there’s a lot of people that’s not using it correctly, so I feel that I’m one of the first ones to show the example of A.I. being used correctly.

Flavor Flav teamed up with his Public Enemy bandmate Chuck D for “Every Where Man,” a new single that uses AI to translate the track to dozens of different languages. To celebrate, he joined Billboard’s Rania Aniftos to discuss the inspiration behind the song.

“My partner Chuck D mentioned to me about doing a record called ‘Every Where Man,’ because Flavor Flav is everywhere, man,” he shared. “Me and Chuck sat down, Chuck put the pen to the paper, so really Chuck D wrote this song. He writes it, I recites it.”

He continued, “This song in Spanish, I was bugging out like, wow, listening to my voice in Spanish! […] Korean! I never, ever thought that I would be speaking Korean.”

Flav added that he’s “glad” to use the technology, “because AI has been misused so much. I feel that I’m one of the first ones to show the example of AI being used correctly.”

The star also showed off his Taylor SwiftEras tour-inspired hoodie, which was gifted to him by a Swiftie. “She’s one of the most important and influential artists of our time,” he said of Swift, before adding that he’s in his 1989 era.

The 2024 Australian Open is in full swing! The tennis tournament, which runs from Jan. 13-28, continued Tuesday (Jan. 23) with a packed schedule of matches between players from around the globe.

Among the lineup, Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska will take on Czech tennis player Linda Noskova in a women’s quarter-final match on Tuesday. Yastremaska beat New Yorker Emmy Navarro in a third round match last week and advanced to the fourth round quarter-finals for the first time in her career.

In another first, 19-year-old Coco Gauff advanced to the Australian Open semi-final after winning a match against Marta Kostyuk on Monday. “Marta is a tough opponent, every time we play it’s a tough match,” Gauff said in a post-game interview. “I really fought and left it all on the court.”

After winning last year’s U.S. Open, Gauff became the first American teenager to take the title since Serena Williams in 1999. The teen will face Aryna Sabalenka (whom she beat in the U.S. Open final last year) in the women’s semi-finals on Wednesday.

The men’s schedule includes Italy’s Jannik Sinner vs. Andrey Rublev of Serbia and Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz vs. Russia’s Daniil Medvedev.

After beating Rublev in a men’s quarter-final match on Tuesday, Sinner will advance to the men’s semi-final match against tennis veteran, Novak Djokovic, on Thursday.

A native of Serbia, Djokovic has had quite a showing at this year’s Australian Open. He advanced to the fourth round after defeating Argentina’s Tomas Martin Etcheverry in a third round match last Friday. Djokovic won a fourth round match against French player, Adrian Mannarino, on Saturday and a quarter-final match against California native, Taylor Fritz, on Monday.

In a post-game interview, Djokovic admitted to struggling in the first couple of rounds and congratulated Fritz for being a strong competitor. “We started with a 60- or 70-minute first game, which took a lot out of us,” he explained. “[Fritz] was making me uncomfortable on the court because he was very aggressive, he served great and he was staying close to the line, taking the ball early, making me run. I was often on [my] back foot, so [kudos] to him for playing really well. You could see he had a game plan and he was very sharp. It was definitely a struggle for me to play the first sets and then [in the third set] things started to come together.”

Djokovic, 36, became the third tennis player in history to play 100 matches at the Australian Open.

It’s undeniable that Kelly Clarkson knows how to belt a song that will leave you picking your jaw up off the ground, but she’s also proven to serve some unforgettable looks while hosting her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Lately, the “Stronger” singer has been fusing her love of rock bands — including Talking Heads, The Rolling Stones and Fleetwood Mac — with her chic style by sporting not one, but three vintage-inspired band T-shirts from the popular apparel brand Madeworn.

Her most recent episode — which aired Tuesday (Jan. 23) and you can watch on Peacock — saw the “Because of You” singer interviewing Common in a Talking Heads T-shirt paired with some sleek black flared pants. That’s not the only time she opted for the casual top either: She also showed some love for The Rolling Stones in an episode from Monday (Jan. 22) that featured a Rolling Stones band tee paired with a bold rainbow striped pleated skirt from Le Superbe.

If you’re always singing along to “Dreams” or “Landslide,” then the Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper has the perfect style to add to your Fleetwood Mac merch collection. In a episode from Jan. 17, Clarkson took to the stage in a Fleetwood Mac band T-shirt that looked as though it was transported straight from the ’70s, which she elevated in a maxi leather skirt and platform heels.

Billie Eilish and Finneas have earned their second Oscar nomination for their track “What Was I Made For?” and Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt have been nominated for “I’m Just Ken,” but there are a few musicians and actors who are noticeably missing from this year’s nominations. Jennifer Lopez has been nominated for a Razzie for her role in ‘The Mother.’ Rihanna had the ultimate fangirl moment when she met Natalie Portman for the first time. Common and Jennifer Hudson seemingly confirm their relationship on ‘The Jennifer Hudson Show.’ On a recent episode of ‘The Breakfast Club,’ Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy cleared the air after DJ Envy called SZA “this generation’s Mary (J. Blige).” And more!

Tetris Kelly:
The Oscar nominations are here, J.Lo flops, J-Hud got a man, and Rihanna fangirls. We hang out with Flavor Flav. They compare Mary J. Blige to who? And we learn about Ivan Cornejo.

It’s Tetris, it’s Tuesday and it’s January 23rd. Welcome to Billboard News. Now it is spicy in these music streets, but before we get into the tea of the day, let’s jump over to the movie biz for the Oscar noms.

Billie Eilish may earn her second Oscar while everyone notices a major snub. Here are your 2024 Oscar nominations. Billie Eilish and Finneas earned their second Oscar nomination for “What Was I Made For?” If she takes home the trophy for best original song, that will make her a two-time Oscar winner at just the age of 22. But she’ll have to beat out Jon Batiste and Dan Wilson; Scott George; Diane Warren, who received her 15th nomination but has yet to win; and fellow ‘Barbie’ soundtrack writers Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt. Noticeably missing from the category: Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night.”

Kali Uchis scores her first No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart (dated Jan. 27), as Orquídeas arrives atop the list with her biggest sales week ever – 31,000 copies sold in the U.S. in the week ending Jan. 18, according to Luminate. Of that sum, vinyl sales accounted for 20,000 – marking the largest week for a Spanish-language album on vinyl since Luminate began tracking sales in 1991. The effort also launches at No. 1 on the Vinyl Albums ranking, No. 1 on Top Latin Albums (her first leader there) and starts at a career-high No. 2 on the Billboard 200.

Elsewhere in the top 10 of the new Top Album Sales chart, Jimin’s former No. 1 FACE re-enters at No. 4 following its vinyl release and Kid Cudi’s new album Insano starts at No. 5.

Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart ranks the top-selling albums of the week based only on traditional album sales. The chart’s history dates back to May 25, 1991, the first week Billboard began tabulating charts with electronically monitored piece count information from SoundScan, now Luminate. Pure album sales were the sole measurement utilized by the Billboard 200 albums chart through the list dated Dec. 6, 2014, after which that chart switched to a methodology that blends album sales with track equivalent album units and streaming equivalent album units. All of Billboard’s new Jan. 27, 2024-dated charts will be posted in full on Billboard‘s website on Jan. 23. For all chart news, follow @billboard and @billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram.

Of the 31,000 copies sold of Orquídeas, physical sales comprise 30,000 (20,000 on vinyl, 10,000 on CD and negligible sum on cassette) and digital download album sales comprise 1,000. Its sales were bolstered by its availability across seven vinyl variants and four CD editions, including exclusive versions sold through independent record stores, Target, Urban Outfitters and the artist’s webstore.

Six Taylor Swift albums populate the top 10, all former No. 1s, led by Folklore, which pushes 3-2 with 19,000 (up 92%, owed to a replenishment of CD stock at retail). 1989 (Taylor’s Version) falls 1-3 (13,000; down 20%), Midnights dips 2-6 (8,000; down 29%), Lover descends 5-8 (7,000; down 28%), Evermore falls 7-9 (6,000; down 8%) and Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) drops 6-10 (5,000; down 25%).

Jimin’s FACE re-enters at No. 4 with nearly 10,000 sold (up 3,501%) following the set’s release on vinyl. It sold 8,000 copies on vinyl in the week ending Jan. 18,  and enters at No. 2 on the Vinyl Albums chart. FACE was issued in only one vinyl edition, and included a photo book, postcard and photocard inside its packaging.

Kid Cudi scores his sixth top 10-charting effort on Top Album Sales, as his latest studio album Insano starts at No. 5 with 8,500 sold. Of that sum, physical sales comprise 7,000 (about 5,500 on vinyl and 1,500 on CD) and digital downloads comprise 1,500. The album’s sales were enhanced by its availability across four vinyl variants and four CD editions.

Stray Kids’ chart-topping ROCK-STAR falls 4-7 on Top Album Sales, with nearly 8,000 sold (down 19%).

In the week ending Jan. 18, there were 1.083 million albums sold in the U.S. (down 9.3% compared to the previous week). Of that sum, physical albums (CDs, vinyl LPs, cassettes, etc.) comprised 822,000 (down 12.1%) and digital albums comprised 261,000 (down 0.6%).

There were 370,000 CD albums sold in the week ending Jan. 18 (down 15.7 week-over-week) and 449,000 vinyl albums sold (down 8.8%). Year-to-date CD album sales stand at 1.316 (down 27.2% compared to the same time frame a year ago) and year-to-date vinyl album sales total 1.566 million (down 45.9%).

Overall year-to-date album sales total 3.694 million (down 35.5% compared to the same year-to-date time frame a year ago). Year-to-date physical album sales stand at 2.895 million (down 38.8%) and digital album sales total 799,000 (down 19.5%).
