It’s almost December, so Mariah Carey and Brenda Lee are back in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 and snuggled up in the top two spots of our newly returned Holiday 100 chart. But if you look beyond “All I Want for Christmas Is You” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” what songs are poised to become the next Christmas classics?

On the new Billboard Pop Shop Podcast, Katie & Keith are identifying relatively modern holiday songs — released less than 20 years ago but adorning the Holiday 100 for at least five Christmas seasons — that look like they might have the staying power to become evergreen hits.

The biggest “new” classic: Kelly Clarkson‘s “Underneath the Tree,” which returns to the Holiday 100 top 10 this week at No. 9. The song, which Clarkson co-wrote with Greg Kurstin, was the lead single from her first Christmas album, 2013’s Wrapped in Red. It has so far peaked at No. 8 on the Holiday 100, in 2014. Could this be the year it climbs even higher?

For the rest of our modern merry melodies, listen to this week’s Pop Shop Podcast below:

Also on the show, we’ve got chart news on how Jack Harlow hits No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Lovin’ On Me” and how Dolly Parton scores her highest-charting album ever on the Billboard 200 with Rockstar.

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood were among those who gathered in Atlanta on Tuesday (Nov. 28) to pay their respects and honor the life of former first lady Rosalynn Carter, who died Nov. 19 at age 96.

The memorial service took place at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church, on the campus of Atlanta’s Emory University, just over two hours away from the longtime home Rosalynn Carter shared with her husband, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who also attended the memorial service.

Brooks and Yearwood took part in the service, with Yearwood singing the John Lennon classic “Imagine,” and Brooks accompanying her on guitar. Following the performance, Yearwood briefly touched Carter’s coffin before the couple exited the stage.

Brooks and Yearwood came to know the Carters through volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity. During a press conference on Nov. 20 to celebrate his Friends in Low Places Bar & Honky-Tonk in downtown Nashville, Brooks noted that Georgia natives Yearwood and Rosalynn Carter had forged a close friendship over the years. Brooks told reporters that Yearwood called Carter a “quiet warrior.”

“What she says is very quiet, yet very powerful,” Brooks told reporters, “and what she taught Miss Yearwood — what she teaches us all — is the lion doesn’t have to roar, and the statement doesn’t have to be more than a few words to get your point across. She was great at that, and everyone loved her for that.”

In 2021, Brooks and Yearwood honored the Carters’ 75th wedding anniversary by gifting them with a fully restored red 1946 convertible, which was made the same year the Carters wed.

Bobby Brown is honoring his late son Bobby Brown Jr., who died at age 28 on Nov. 18, 2020.

The songwriter and artist took to Instagram over the weekend (Nov. 25) to share a photo with Bobby Jr., and captioned it with a brown heart emoji.

In November 2020, Los Angeles police responded to an undisclosed medical emergency at a home in Encino at around 1:50 p.m., which is when they discovered the body, as the Associated Press reported.

Bobby Jr. died of an overdose of alcohol, cocaine and the opioid fentanyl, according to a coroner’s report received by BBC.

Bobby Jr.’s mother is Kim Ward, who Brown dated for 11 years before he married Whitney Houston.

Brown lost his daughter, Bobby Jr.’s half-sister Bobbi Kristina, in July 2015, after she was found unconscious in a bathtub and was then in a coma for months. The autopsy revealed the cause of death was lobar pneumonia due to “immersion of face in water complicating mixed drug intoxication.” Bobbi Kristina died three years after the February 2012 death of her mom, Whitney Houston.

Taylor Swift is now reaching the canines.

A viral TikTok shared by user @maya.and.hunter this week shows Maya walking in on Hunter teaching their golden retriever puppy about Swift’s recent “Karma” lyric change. “And then she says, ‘Karma is the guy on the Chiefs,’” Hunter is seen telling the pup, who is sweetly falling asleep in his arms.

“Raising the next generation of Swifties,” the caption reads.

The lyric change, of course, came during Swift’s Eras tour stop in Buenos Aires earlier this month, which her rumored boyfriend Travis Kelce attended. While onstage, Swift had altered the lyrics slightly to sing, “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me,” in reference to Kelce’s position as tight end on the Kansas City Chiefs (The original line goes, “Karma is the guy on the screen coming straight home to me.)

“Yeah no I had no clue [she would do that] … well, I might have had a little bit of a clue, but definitely when I heard it come out of her mouth, it still shocked me,” Kelce admitted during a follow-up episode of his New Heights podcast, which he co-hosts with brother Jason Kelce. “I was like, ‘Oh s–t, she really just said that.’”

What makes Dyson’s all-new Airwrap so popular? For starters, it’s been blowing up on social media for a while. The hashtag #Dysonairwrap has received more than 2.3 billion views on TikTok, and #Dysonairwraptutorials has racked up more than 500 million views.

According to a shopping report, Dyson Airwrap landed on the list of most loved beauty products for 2022, and it’ll probably make the list again along with the newbies such as the Dyson Airstrait. If you check YouTube, you’ll find dozens of tutorial videos and reviews of this epic hair tool, and Reddit is filled with Airwrap threads.

At $600, the Airwrap feels more splurge worthy than budget friendly, but it also provides an all-in-one experience, thus cutting down on the number of hair tools that you may need to use, and potentially saving you money in the long run. If you’re considering gifting someone with a Dyson Airwrap for the holidays it’s easily one of the most useful (and sought-after) holiday gifts that you’ll buy — even if the price feels a bit steep.

Similar to its predecessor, the Airwrap 2.0 features an array of attachments, including large barrels to curl and wave hair; brushes to control and shape; and the triple-threat Coanda smoothing dryer for drying, smoothing and keeping flyaways at bay.

You can also find the Airwrap at Best Buy (save $120 off with My Best Buy Plus or My Best Plus Total) and Sephora.

Is Dyson Airwrap worth the money? According to thousands of satisfied customers, the answer is a resounding “yes.” The Airwrap received a 4.2 out of 5 rating on Dyson.com and countless reviews on other retail sites and shopping forums.

Reviews aside, there’s really only one way to find out what all the hype is about. You can purchase the Dyson Airwrap at Dyson.com and other major retailers such as Ulta Beauty, Best Buy and Sephora, in addition to sites including eBay and StockX. And if you’re a Prime member, Amazon is offering an additional $60 off off the Airwrap when you get approved for an Amazon Visa Card.

Daryl Hall has sued his longtime music partner John Oates, arguing that his plan to sell off his share of a joint venture would violate the terms of a business agreement the Hall & Oates duo had forged.

The move quickly prompted a judge to temporarily block the sale while legal proceedings and a previously initiated arbitration continue.

A Nashville chancery court judge issued the temporary restraining order on Nov. 16, writing that Oates and others involved in his trust can’t move to close the sale of their share of Whole Oats Enterprises LLP to Primary Wave IP Investment Management LLC until an arbitrator in a separately filed case weighs in on the deal, or until the judge’s order expires — typically within 15 days, unless a judge extends the deadline.

Chancellor Russell Perkins issued the order the same day Hall filed his lawsuit, which was largely brought forth under seal, obscuring most details. An order Wednesday by the judge allowed more filings to be made public, though many details about the pair’s business agreement and the proposed sale remain under wraps.

Writing in favor of sealing certain filings, Hall’s attorneys reasoned that it’s a private dispute under an agreement with confidential terms, concerning a confidential arbitration process.

Although the publicly released version of the lawsuit didn’t specify what’s at stake in the sale, Primary Wave has already owned “significant interest” in Hall and Oates’ song catalog for more than 15 years. In a 2021 interview with Sky News, Hall alluded to disappointment with the sale of his back catalog.

“Oh, in the early days, it got sold off for me and I didn’t get the money,” he said. In the same interview, he advised artists to retain their publishing rights, saying “all you have is that.”

The lawsuit contends that Hall opened an arbitration process on Nov. 9 against Oates and the other defendants in the lawsuit, Oates’ wife, Aimee Oates, and Richard Flynn, in their roles as co-trustees of Oates’ trust. Hall was seeking an order preventing them from selling their part in Whole Oats Enterprises to Primary Wave Music.

According to the lawsuit, Oates’ team intimated at the time that the sale could close within days, although no arbitrator had been picked yet to sort through the conflict.

The lawsuit says Oates’ team entered into a letter of intent with Primary Wave Music for the sale, and alleges further that the letter makes clear that the music duo’s business agreement was disclosed to Primary Wave Music in violation of a confidentiality provision.

“Thus, the entire Unauthorized Transaction is the product of an indisputable breach of contract,” the lawsuit states.

The case will be taken up at a Nov. 30 court hearing.

The Associated Press sent emails to attorneys for both parties and to representatives for Primary Wave Music on Friday (Nov. 24). Still unclear is whether the dispute centers on the music catalog of Hall & Oates, a soft-rock-and-pop duo best known for its No. 1 hits “Private Eyes,” “Rich Girl” and “Maneater.”

Daryl Hall and John Oates got their start as Temple University students before signing with Atlantic Records in 1972. In the decades since, they have achieved six platinum albums and many more Top 10 singles with their unique approach to blue-eyed soul. Hall & Oates was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 and its latest album, Home for Christmas, was released in 2006. The duo continued to perform as of last year.

“We have this incredibly good problem of having so many hits,” Oates told the AP in 2021, just before resuming a national tour that had been delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic. “Believe me, it’s not a chore to play those songs because they are really great.”

Beyonce gave the Beyhive something to be thankful for on Thanksgiving morning (Nov. 23): a new and final trailer for her upcoming concert documentary, Renaissance: A Film by Beyonce.

The two-minute teaser kicks off with a sideways home video before Queen Bey reveals who the cameraperson is when she addresses them: “Rumi, now can I teach you a trick? You gotta turn it to the side!”

With that intro featuring her young daughter, whom she shares with husband Jay-Z, Beyonce sets up the focus of her latest trailer — her children and what they mean to her. Interspersed between scenes of the superstar backstage giving her thoughts on the direction of her Renaissance World Tour to family scenes and big, flashy concert moments Bey explains it all.

“Time is my biggest obstacle. It’s impossible to not realize how fast it’s going when you’re looking through the eyes of your children,” she begins in the voiceover, as an image of Blue Ivy –the couple’s firstborn — performing on stage with Beyonce appears.

“I think about all of my heroes and all that they endured,” the 32-time Grammy winner continues, as video of Diana Ross’ surprise performance at Beyonce’s birthday show plays. “I know that all of my struggle and sacrifice is opening the door for the next. They are the new beginning.”

Ending on a powerful note, the superstar concludes her voiceover, saying, “I have nothing to prove to anyone at this point. We are creating our own world. This is my reward. Nobody can take that away from me.”

The concert film opens worldwide Dec. 1. Ahead of that, Renaissance will have a dual world premiere in Los Angeles on Nov. 25, and London on Nov. 30, The Hollywood Reporter previously reported.

Beyonce wrote, executive produced, as well as co-directed the film, which chronicles her record-breaking Renaissance World Tour. Tickets for shows around the world are on sale now.

It’s not Christmastime until… Cher hits the dance floor.

The timeless diva performed “DJ Play a Christmas Song” from her brand-new Christmas album at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday (Nov. 23), and she turned the parade route into a dance club, performing on a silver stage flanked by dancers dressed like discofied toy soldiers.

A troupe of silver-clad dancers also surrounded the stage and carried giant red hearts out for the grande finale.

The club-banger Christmas song recalls one of Cher’s biggest hits, 1998’s “Believe,” with its vocoder-assisted vocals and insistent beat. “DJ Play a Christmas Song” debuted at No. 3 on Billboard‘s Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart last month — Cher’s highest-peaking song on the chart — while its parent album, Christmas, debuted atop Billboard‘s Top Holiday Albums earlier this month.

In a recent interview with Billboard about the new album, Cher explained, “They’re not ‘Christmas Christmas’ songs, OK? They’re just great songs. And I never say that because I almost never like what I do. But I mean, people love it and I’m happy. I’m so particular, but I love the songs and everyone who hears them loves them.”

One of the biggest fans of Cher’s parade performance was Flavor Flav: The Public Enemy rapper was shown onscreen wildly applauding from the crowd as the song wrapped up.

Social media is loving it too — even if one fan on X wondered: “Is Cher singing ‘DJ Play a Christmas Song’ or did someone spike my coffee with absinthe?”
