Mariah Carey‘s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” adds a record-extending 21st week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Carey claims her unprecedented and milestone 100th career week at No. 1 on the Hot 100, having accumulated her haul over 19 leaders, dating to her first, “Vision of Love,” in 1990. Rihanna ranks second with 60 weeks at No. 1, followed by The Beatles (59) and Drake (56).

“All I Want for Christmas Is You” secures another notable record as it logs its 78th week on the Hot 100, surpassing Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” as the longest-charted title ever by a woman artist.

Two weeks earlier, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” returned to No. 1 on the Hot 100 to lead in a record-extending seventh holiday season. It arrived on Carey’s album Merry Christmas in November 1994 and, as streaming grew and holiday music became more prominent on streaming services’ playlists, it first hit the top 10 in December 2017 and the top five in the 2018 holiday season. It led at last, prior to its three weeks this season, over the holidays in 2019 (for three weeks), 2020 (two), 2021 (three), 2022 (four), 2023 (two) and 2024 (four). (Older holiday songs are eligible to appear on the chart each season.)

Drake’s looking to give back this holiday season. The 6 God hosted the first night of three live streams on Stake on Sunday (Dec. 21).

Drizzy’s hoping to end his gambling year on a high note, and if all goes well, he’ll be giving back 10 percent of his betting wins to a lucky fan this week.

“Can we end my roughest gambling year on a good note?? I want to MAXWIN and share 10% of it with you,” he wrote while posting details urging followers to enter the contest via Stake.

Most recently, Drake posted a $200,000 betting slip on Jake Paul to beat Anthony Joshua over the weekend, which ended up being a loss, as the former two-time heavyweight champion boxer knocked out Paul in the sixth round of the Friday night (Dec. 19) bout at the Kaseya Center in Miami.

On the music side, it appears the wait for Iceman will continue into 2026. Streamer BenDaDonnn joined Drake at one point and trolled the OVO rapper about the anticipated album. “When the f—k is you dropping the album, ugly a— n—a? Chat, y’all gotta chill,” Ben joked.

Drake quickly squashed Ben’s slick move and accused him of clip farming. “See, he’s clip farming. He’s a clip farmer. Nobody even said that, bro. Nobody said that,” he fired back.

Before hopping off the stream, Drake did offer a quick update on Iceman, as he wanted the OVO faithful to know that he and the team are working heading into 2026. But no release date is confirmed just yet.

“We’re focused. I know what you’re waiting on, so trust me. We’re cheffing,” Drake promised. Look for two more streams from Drizzy on Monday (Dec. 22) and Tuesday night (Dec. 23).

Merry Christmas from Madrid! Vanesa Martín, Omar Montes, India Martínez, Chucho Valdés and more share their Christmas memories and wishes with Billboard and Starlite Madrid.

Vanesa Martín: Being at home, with my dogs, my family, cooking, being with my friends, not having any obligations. And that’s it. I’m going to repeat that as a ritual, like a commandment.

Omar Montes: In my house, we like to get together. We prepare the food all together and put up the tree.

Fina Grosso: Does your grandma do anything special?

Omar Montes: Yes, complain about her leg, that it hurts … Well.

India Martínez: It’s always been related to music, you see. The first one that really impacted me was the karaoke that they gave me. I mean, the machine with the mics, I went crazy. A piano.

When at a slightly older age, already at 13, I got my flamenco guitar, which was like God.

Sigal Ratner-Arias: That really changed your life.

India Martínez: There I signed up for classes, um, and I started making my songs.

Chucho Valdés: Well, I tell you, at Christmas I always ask for health for all my family and that we always stay united, always. And the rest, the rest we get ourselves. With health one can fight as far as possible. You won’t believe me because for a kid, a bicycle, a bike, a pair of skates … This isn’t an exaggeration, it’s real. It was when my dad gave me the book with the 32 sonatas by Beethoven. The 32 …

Ara Malikian: And something about Christmas? Well, “St. Matthew Passion” by Bach.

Nil Moliner: Well, look, my favorite tradition is- I am Catalan and in Barcelona, in Catalonia, we do it’s a log that’s called the tió, right? The “tió de Nadal.” It’s a wooden log, uh, that is a magic log. You have to feed it during Christmas and then, on the night of the 24th, with some sticks, you hit the log and this log poops out gifts. It’s like that.

Keep watching for more!

Chris Rea, the British blues rocker best known for his 1978 soft rock hit “Fool (If You Think It’s Over)” and the wistful, jazzy holiday hit “Driving Home for Christmas,” has died at 74. The news was announced by the singer/guitarist’s family on his official Instagram page on Monday morning (Dec. 22), where they wrote, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Chris, who died peacefully earlier today following a short illness. Chris’s music has created the soundtrack to many lives, and his legacy will live on through the songs he leaves behind.”

At press time no additional information was available about when Rea died or the manner of death.

Rea released two dozen albums over his 50-year career, including two that reached No. 1 on the U.K. albums charts — 1989’s The Road to Hell and 1991’s Auberge — and landed one song in the U.S. top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, “Fool (If You Think It’s Over),” which topped out at No. 12 in the summer of 1978.

One of the singer’s other most beloved tracks is a seasonally appropriate one, the melancholy 1986 ballad “Driving Home For Christmas,” about a wintry trip home for the holidays penned while he was actually driving back from Abbey Road Studios in London through snowy traffic while longing to be in the cozy confines of home.

“Driving home for Christmas/ With a thousand memories/ I take look at the driver next to me/ He’s just the same,” Rea sings in his gravelly voice over gentle piano, brushed drums and jazzy guitar.

Born Chris Anton Rea in Middlesbrough, England on March 4, 1951, Rea eschewed a career in his family’s ice cream factory and bought his first guitar when he was in his early 20s, focusing his self-taught bottleneck slide style on his love for early blues players and his singing on inspiration from gospel singers.

After a stint in the local band Magdalene in which he was briefly bumped-up to lead singer, Rea set out on his own and formed the group the Beautiful Losers, before going out on his own and releasing his debut single, “So Much Love,” in 1974. He hit pay dirt a few years later in the all-important U.S. market when “Fool (If You Think It’s Over)” charted in America and earned Rea his first, and only, Grammy nomination in 1979 for best new artist, which he lost to disco act A Taste of Honey (“Boogie Oogie Oogie”) in a tight competition that also included Elvis Costello, The Cars and Toto.

The song was included on Rea’s 1978 debut album, Whatever Happened to Benny Santini?, which topped out at No. 49 on the Billboard 200 album chart, with the title track hitting No. 71 on the Hot 100. He followed up with Deltics in 1979 and Tennis in 1980, neither of which made much of a dent on the U.K. or U.S. charts.

He finally broke through on 1987’s Dancing With Strangers, which spawned his first top 20 U.K. single, the jumpy blues pop number “Let’s Dance,” which reached No. 12 in England and No. 81 on the Hot 100. He was back on the U.S. charts the next year with what would be his final U.S.-charting song, the chugging ZZ Top-like rocker “Working On It,” which ran up to No. 73 on the Hot 100 in early 1989.

His seasonal classic, originally recorded in 1986, was featured on his 1988 compilation, New Light Through Old Windows, and in the years since it has become an annual favorite, often ending the year as one of the top 10 Christmas singles on the U.K. charts. While he never toured the U.S., Rea was a solid draw in his native country, as well as in Australia and Japan and he earned his first No. 1 album in the U.K. in 1989 with his best-selling album, The Road to Hell.

As proof of his rising popularity, Rea performed guitar on the 1989 Band Aid II charity single re-recording “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” alongside Bananarama, Kylie Minogue, Cliff Richard, Lisa Stansfield and Wet Wet Wet, among others. He scored another U.K. No. 1 with his next album, 1991’s Auberge, and continued to release new LPs throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, taking a break in 2001, when he had his pancreas removed along with parts of his stomach and small intestine, followed by a stroke in 2016.

Rea released his 24th album, Road Songs For Lovers, in 2017 and embarked on a tour that was cut short when he collapsed on stage during a U.K. show, which resulted in the cancellation of the final shows on the outing. His 25th and final album, 2019’s limited-edition One Fine Day, revived songs he’d recorded nearly 30 years earlier but which had never been released together before.

The guitarist/singer was also a racing enthusiast, who participated in the 1993 British Touring Car Championship, collected and restored classic racing cars and recorded the sweeping, emotional ballad “Saudade” in a tribute to three-time Formula One racing champ Ayrton Senna for the BBC’s 1995 documentary about the beloved Brazilian driver’s life and tragic death on the course at the San Marino Grand Prix.

Check out some of Rea’s hits below.

The most wonderful time of the year was recently marred by two deadly mass shootings: the Dec. 13 shooting at Brown University that killed two students and injured nine others, and the Dec. 14 shooting at Australia’s Bondi Beach that killed 15 and injured more than 40 others at a Hanukkah celebration. Now, Gracie Abrams, Aaron Dessner and Bon Iver are releasing a song to support Everytown, a non-profit that works to end gun violence.

Related

In the emotional track titled “Sold Out,” Abrams sings in part: “The system works and we all stay terrified/ What are we doing here, think we got sold out/ Looks like another year without a way out.” The song is available on Bandcamp for $5.

“We made this song last year in the wake of a school shooting. We were reminded of it this week as our hearts were broken yet again. It’s a sad one to share during the holidays, but the world is hurting and we shouldn’t look away,” the three musicians said in a joint statement. “We are proud to support Everytown, an organization dedicated to ending gun violence in America. We are releasing this song to raise awareness of their mission of reducing gun violence. Please visit their website for more information on the unbelievable work they do. Sending so much love to you all.”

Dessner also shared Abrams’ Instagram post about the song in his Stories, and shared his appreciation for her. “thank you @gracieabrams for finding a way to express our profound collective grief and create action @everytown,” he wrote.

Grammy-nominated Abrams has not been shy about speaking out when it comes to issues close to her heart. After news broke of the Brown University and Bondi Beach shootings, and that Rob Reiner and wife Michele Reiner were found Dec. 15 murdered in their home, the singer shared a statement slamming Donald Trump‘s reaction to recent tragic incidents.

“Within 24 hours of the most unimaginable tragedy a family can endure, we see the President yet again reveal the most poisonous and vile narcissism maybe in the history of humanity,” she wrote at the time of the president, who had insulted the beloved director after news of his death by claiming Reiner suffered from “a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME” in a Truth Social post. “Indefensible.”

“It is getting harder to find the words to describe the pain in the world,” she continued. “I am lighting a candle for everybody who is hurting.”

It may be the happiest time of the year, but Barry Manilow shared some bad news with fans on Monday (Dec. 22). The Grammy-winning singer revealed in a statement posted to his social media accounts that his doctor found cancer in one of his lungs, and he’ll be postponing his January concerts for treatment.

“As many of you know, I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks. Even though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure that everything was OK,” Manilow, 82, began. “The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed. It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early. That’s the good news.”

He added that now his Christmas shows are done, he is undergoing surgery to have the cancer removed. “The doctors do not believe it has spread and I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis,” he shared. “So, that’s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.”

The singer — who boasts three Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits — went on to apologize to fans for having to postpone his previously scheduled January shows. “In the meantime, I’m counting the days until I return to my home away from home at the Westgate Las Vegas for our Valentine’s weekend concerts on February 12-13-14 and throughout 2026,” he added. “Something tells me that February weekend is going to be one big party!”

He concluded his post by urging fans to take care of their health. “I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year,” Manilow wrote. “And remember, if you have even the slightest symptom… get tested!”

See his statement and the new show dates below:

A few nights before Christmas, things were not silent all through the house after all. In the run-up to the holiday, Metallica singer/guitarist James Hetfield gave fans a special bonus under their tree: a recitation of the popular Christmas story “A Visit From St. Nicholas.”

The singer put down the guitar and read from the poem written by literature professor Clement Clarke Moore for his six children that was first published anonymously in the Troy Sentinel newspaper in Troy, N.Y. in 1823 and which has since become a Christmas classic. The story of the holiday is often referred to by the poem’s most famous first line: “‘Twas the night before Christmas.”

Hetfield’s version debuted on Friday (Dec. 19) on the band’s Maximum Metallia SiriusXM channel and then migrated to the band’s Instagram page, where it was accompanied by a cartoon image of a crackling fire. The group members’ stockings were, of course, hung with care, one for drummer Lars Ulrich, another for Hetfield, as well as ones for bassist Robert Trujillo and guitarist Kirk Hammett. While presents and bows surrounded the fire, in a fittingly Metallica touch, the mantle was also hung with an ominous fanged skull.

“Gather ‘Round… It’s Story Time with Papa Het,” read the caption. In a soothing voice miles away from his typical warrior’s howl, Hetfield recited the story with warmth and wonder, though he gave the lines about “the children were nestled all snug in their beds/ While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads,” a slightly ominous tinge.

His voice took on a familiar gravel when he read off the list of Santa’s reindeer, giving a certain menace to the “dash away all!” line, then chuckling along at the sight of St. Nick laughing and shaking “like a bowl full of jelly.” Hetfield delivered the legendary final line, “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!” with such lusty abandon that one commenter said, “if you turn this into a song, that would be epic.”

Listen to James Hetfield read “A Visit From St. Nicholas” below.

Ahead of the Christmas holiday, Charlie Puth guested on Billboard’s new video podcast On the Record w/ Kristin Robinson to answer one burning question: Why does Christmas music sound so Christmas-y?

Over the last few years, Puth has become the industry’s de facto music teacher. Often calling himself “Professor Puth,” he makes videos on social media to explain various trends and attributes of popular music today. In keeping with his short-form explainers, Puth joined the podcast to talk through the music theory behind hit holiday tunes, including the current Hot 100 number 1 track “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey.

“There’s a lot of chromaticism in Christmas music,” Puth tells Billboard, demonstrating on a keyboard how holiday songs tend to have similar chord progressions.

Puth also notes that “[Christmas music] is the only ‘genre’ of music where people reach for the really old stuff,” explaining that the 1960s are a common era to reference in contemporary holiday songs, particularly pop, early rock and doo-wop styles. He plays Kelly Clarkson’s “Underneath the Tree,” adding “that [song] came out in 2011, but if you took out the modern production that sounds like ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’ — that might’ve even been a reference.” He also notes that Carey’s mega-hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is another modern hit with ’60s touch points.

Beyond his breakdown of the holiday music sound, Puth shares some of his personal favorites, including Justin Bieber’s Mistletoe, which he remembers listening to when he was in college, and the How the Grinch Stole Christmas Soundtrack (2000). “A subgenre of Christmas music that is severely under appreciated is the R&B [side] of Christmas music,” Puth adds, pointing out that holiday songs by Luther Vandross and Boyz II Men as also architecting some of his favorite seasonal songs.

David Guetta brought his Monolith Experience show to the Sunburn Festival 2025 in Mumbai on Saturday night (Dec. 20), and during the fest appearance, the veteran producer brought out Bollywood mainstay and rising global pop star Nora Fatehi. Together, Guetta and Fatehi previewed “Fire,” an upcoming collaboration that will also feature Ciara in its studio version.

On stage in front of thousands of fans, Guetta combined his animated persona and penchant for oversized drops with Fatehi’s beguiling vocals as the two stars stood side by side. “Fire” was tucked in between Guetta’s smashes such as “Titanium” and “Without You” in the festival set, which culminated in fireworks.

“Teasing our new global collab ‘Fire’ exclusively to India at Sunburn with David Guetta was epic!” Fatehi says in a statement to Billboard. “This marks the first time anyone gets to hear our track, and the response has been phenomenal!”

Fatehi adds, “We are so excited to shoot the music video in India in February, and launch the song next year!”

Guetta and Ciara are the latest stars who Fatehi has joined for global singles, after collaborating with Jason Derulo and Shenseea on separate tracks in 2025. Fatehi is one of the flagship artists on 5 Junction Records, a joint venture label under WMG that launched this year as a pipeline for South Asian stars to reach North American audiences.

“Watching Nora, David and Ciara come together on one track is exactly why 5 Junction exists,” says Anjula Acharia, 5 Junction Records founder. “It’s a true collision of cultures and sounds — Middle Eastern vibes, European electronic energy, and American pop and R&B — melding into something that feels global, modern and borderless.

“This record doesn’t belong to one place or one audience,” Acharia continues of “Fire,” “it belongs to the world.”
