Bad Bunny leads the list of finalists for the 2025 Billboard Latin Music Awards, with 27 entries, setting a historic record for the awards.

The Puerto Rican superstar is followed by Fuerza Regida with 15 mentions and Rauw Alejandro with 14. Leading the female artists is Karol G with 10 mentions, matching those of rising regional Mexican artist Tito Double P who also has 10, while Peso Pluma is a nine-time finalist.

Broadcasting live via Telemundo on Oct. 23 at 8 p.m. ET from Miami, this year the awards will be presented in 49 categories, spanning leading genres including Latin pop, tropical, Latin rhythm and regional Mexican. In addition, Billboard will recognize select artists with prestigious honorary awards, which will be announced soon.

Other artists with multiple mentions include Netón Vega (eight), Grupo Frontera (seven), Shakira (six), Óscar Maydon and Romeo Santos (with five each). Finalists, and the eventual winners, reflect performance of new recordings on Billboard’s albums and songs charts for the period covering rankings dated Sept. 14, 2024 through the Sept. 6, 2025, charts. Determinations are based on key fan interactions with music, including streaming, album and digital song sales, radio airplay and touring, tracked by Billboard and its data partner, Luminate.

The 2025 Billboard Latin Music Awards will broadcast live from Miami’s James L. Knight Center on Telemundo but fans around the world can also stream the show live on the Telemundo app, Peacock and Telemundo Internacional across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Produced by Telemundo and MBS Special Events, the 2025 Billboard Latin Music Awards coincide with Billboard Latin Music Week, which returns to Miami Beach Oct. 20-24 with a roster of star speakers including Kali Uchis, Daddy Yankee, Xavi, Laura Pausini, Ozuna and many more. The grand opening of Kansas City Chiefs teammates tight end Travis Kelce and quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ new steakhouse, 1587 Prime, is just a week away. The upscale eatery got a soft open on Monday (Sept. 8) for friends and family, where it seems likely that Kelce’s fiancée, Taylor Swift, sipped on one of the restaurant’s signature cocktails mixed in her honor: The Alchemy.

Related

According to the Kansas City Star, the drink that shares a title with a Travis-coded song from Swift’s 2024 The Tortured Poets Department album, features her preferred liquor, a clarified citrus vodka blend, along with dry curaçao, aronia berry, cranberry, strawberry, lime and oolong tea. She’s not the only one who gets her own bespoke cocktail.

TMZ reported that Mahomes has the “Showtime,” a mix of aged rum blend with coconut, Coors Light syrup, lime and soda, while Kelce’s “Big Yeti” mashes up Gentleman’s Cut Bourbon with Bulleit Rye with nocino, demerara and bitters.

While the full menu for the upscale eatery has not yet been posted, an Instagram preview in which Kelce and Mahomes sample some of the dishes reveal that they include the A5 Carpaccio (Wagyu beef, pickled mushrooms, pine nuts, umami aioli, shaved black truffle), as well as Tuna tartare (with truffle ponzu, avocado, chili oil, lime air and airy rice cracker) and the Tajima Wagyu beef (whiskey barrel aged soy, triple inferno salt).

There’s also a chopped salad (with beef salami, chickpeas, tomatoes, pepperoncini, aged provolone, olives roasted pine nuts, artichokes and a red wine vinaigrette), steak tartare (hand-cut wagyu, egg yolk, truffle aioli, crispy capers, shallot, toasted sourdough), a “33” burger, a steak flight, Shrimp Diablo, Togarasi fried chicken (with hot chive, wasabi and green onion) and a Mahomes ketchup flight.

The Star described the interior of the restaurant as having a “tunnel-like entrance meant to emulate the entrance into a stadium. On the ground floor, a 20-seat bar will neighbor a stage that hosts nightly live music. More banquet seating is scattered throughout the restaurant, which has 238 seats in total.” There is also a winding staircase that leads visitors to a panoramic view of the city, with a 40-person private dining room with private entrance upstairs as well.

Cardi B and Offset aren’t a couple anymore, but that doesn’t mean he can’t support his ex’s upcoming album. When TMZ caught up with the “Bodies” rapper on Tuesday (Sept. 9), they asked if he’s worried that Cardi’s eagerly anticipated sophomore album, Am I the Drama?, might bump his recently released LP Kiari off the charts.

“Are your kids gonna have both their parents nominated for album of the year?,” the TMZ photog asked. “For sure,” Offset assured him. “You guys gonna go up against each other maybe?” TMZ asked.

“Never. No, no, no,” Offset said. “I just want all peace, man, for us to win, everybody gotta win. We got kids to take care of, we got to catch the dubs.” The couple share three children together, daughter Kulture Kiari Cephus, 7, son Wave Set Cephus, 4, and one-year-old daughter Blossom.

Though Cardi filed for divorce — for a second time — from Offset in July 2024, ‘Set said he will absolutely support his ex when she drops finally drops the long-awaited follow-up to her 2018 Billboard 200 chart-topping debut studio album Invasion of Privacy.

“For sure,” he said. “That s–t hard, she’s gonna do her big one, too.”

Cardi — who was honored with the 2025 Billboard Impact of the Year Award at the R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players event in Brooklyn earlier this week — recently took to the streets of New York City to promote her LP. She set up shop on Saturday on a busy sidewalk, where she laid out copies of her album on a sheet and shouted out wildly bargain prices to passersby. “My label said I gotta get out in these streets and sell this album,” Cardi captioned the video of her stunt on Instagram.

Am I the Drama? is slated to drop on Sept. 19.

The Only Murders in the Building gang visited The Tonight Show on Tuesday night (Sept. 9) and co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short did their best approximation of a warm greeting by instantly, brutally roasting host Jimmy Fallon. “Jimmy Fallon! Or as the Epstein files know you as ‘redacted,’” Short quipped. “Look how handsome you are. Really. Your teeth as so white… your smile is like an email from Trump… all caps.”

Related

Martin tried to help Fallon save face, noting that they were trying to be funny, but of all the late night hosts, “I’ll miss you most when you are deported to Uganda.”

Then the trio got down to the most important business at hand: dishing on Selena Gomez‘s upcoming nuptials to producer Benny Blanco. “It’s wonderful. I’m very lucky. It’s going well, I’m so excited,” she said, as Martin added that he was sure her co-star’s invites will arrive “any day now.”

Gomez confirmed that “of course” the dynamic duo are invited, noting that Short is going to be the ring bearer, as he did a Gollum bit right on cue before busting into his overenthusiastic wedding planner character Franck Eggelhoffer from Father of the Bride.

“We are all so excited because we love this lady,” Short said in a rare moment of sincerity he let linger for nearly four seconds. “And we love her fiancé… Bad Bunny,” he added, as Gomez, perfectly on cue, looked up horrified at the name miscue. “Benny Blanco,” she hissed with practiced annoyance. “That’s two different people?” Martin wondered.

They trio did triple-duty during their appearance, also pre-taping a cold open bit where they pulled a Freaky Friday. After an enthusiastic greeting from Fallon, they put their hands in to wish for a good show and a flash of lighting caused them to change voices, with Gomez emerging with Martin’s, Fallon slipping into a higher register with Gomez’s, Martin devastated at sounding like longtime friend and butt of his jokes Short.

“What could be worse that that?” Martin as Short lamented. “Having Jimmy Fallon’s voice,” Martin shot back. They swapped it up a few more times until they all got their voices back, except Fallon, who ended up with Roots rapper Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter’s voice. The MC fell to his knees and howled when he realized he’d been saddled with his boss’ “shrill” delivery.

Short, Martin and Gomez also joined Fallon for a game of Catchphrase in which everyone except Martin figured out Short’s clues for Bigfoot. “I can think of 100 better clues,” an exasperated Martin said, as Short dared him to try. “He lives in the forest and he’s a myth,” Martin said, with Short proving why the pair are a comedy match made in heaven with the lightning fast, lisping rejoinder, “Well, what if he’s a missus?”

The fifth season of Only Murders in the Building is streaming on Hulu now.

Spotify has announced that it is rolling out its long-awaited lossless audio feature for premium subscribers in 50 markets worldwide. With the new feature, subscribers can stream tracks in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC (or CD-quality audio) on “nearly every song available on Spotify,” says a Spotify press release on the matter.

Lossless audio will roll out gradually across the 50 qualifying markets through October. Premium users in Australia, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, the US, and the UK have already started to get access.

Spotify’s high fidelity listening feature has been a long time coming. It was first announced in Feb. 2021 at the company’s Stream On event and promoted by Billie Eilish and Finneas. Originally, the plan was to roll out high fidelity audio “in select markets later [that] year” according to the original 2021 announcement, but it never materialized. In early 2022, Spotify posted a status update to its community board, stating that HiFi was now on hold. “We know that HiFi quality audio is important to you,” the statement reads. “We feel the same, and we’re excited to deliver a Spotify HiFi experience to Premium users in the future. But we don’t have timing details to share yet. We will of course update you here when we can.”

At the time, many onlookers believed this higher quality listening experience was an opportunity for Spotify to raise prices, which would, in turn, amount to greater profits for the streaming service and more royalties for artists and songwriters. In 2015, Tidal launched a HiFi audio plan for $19.99 a month. In 2019, Amazon did the same by launching Amazon Music HD, a new HiFi tier that offered 50 million songs in 16 bit, 44.1kHz and “millions” more in Ultra HD (24-bit and up to 192 kHz) for an additional cost of $5 per month for existing Amazon Music subscribers.

But the hope for a new, higher-priced tier came to a halt in May 2021 when Apple Music entered the high fidelity race by announcing its “Spatial Audio” tier with Dolby Atmos at no additional cost to its users. Later that day, Amazon Music announced that its HD tier would now also be free for all users.

In 2023, Bloomberg reported that a so-called “Supremium” tier was in the works at Spotify. The tier was intended to be a higher-priced upgrade from its premium offering, likely including special features like lossless audio. To date, it has not come to fruition.

The announcement of its integration of lossless audio comes just weeks after Spotify announced its Mix With Spotify feature, allowing premium users to create DJ-level mixes and transitions between songs in a playlist. The company also recently added the ability to direct message (DM) other account holders.

The full list of nominees for the 2025 Mercury Prize has been announced, with the shortlist including Sam Fender, Fontaines D.C., PinkPantheress and more.

Celebrating the work of both esteemed and emerging artists from U.K and Ireland, the Mercury Prize is awarded annually and recognizes artistic achievement in LPs across a range of genres. Recent winners include English Teacher (2024), Ezra Collective (2023), Little Simz (2022), Arlo Parks (2021) and Michael Kiwanuka (2020). The Prize was first awarded in 1992 to Primal Scream for Screamadelica, and winners include collections by Pulp (1996), PJ Harvey (2001, 2011) and Arctic Monkeys (2006).

Among those featured on the 12-strong shortlist are Fontaines D.C., who have enjoyed a banner year following the release of fourth LP Romance, in August 2024. The Irish band also received a Mercury Prize nomination for their debut album, 2019’s Dogrel, and have since gone on to headline London’s Finsbury Park as well as arenas across the U.K. and Ireland. Fontaines D.C. snagged best international group at the 2025 BRIT Awards, their second win in that category.

Sam Fender, who boasts 2025’s biggest opening week sales in the U.K. so far, is nominated for People Watching. The North Shields-born musician was previously nominated for his second LP Seventeen Going Under and performed a number of large headline shows this summer, including the 80,000-capacity London Stadium and Manchester’s Wythenshawe Park.

FKA twigs is also recognised for third LP EUSEXUA, her highest-charting record yet on the Billboard 200 (No. 24). CMAT’s Euro-Country, which recently peaked at No. 2 on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart, gives the Irish country-pop star her second nomination for a Mercury Prize following Crazymad, For Me (2023).

Wolf Alice’s The Clearing picks up a nod, and follows their 2018 victory for Visions of a Life. Pulp’s comeback LP More, their first since 2001, and PinkPantheress’ mixtape Fancy That also feature on the nominations list.

The list is rounded out by Jacob Alon’s In Limerance; Emma-Jean Thackray’s Weirdo; Joe Webb’s Hamstrings & Hurricanes; Martin Carthy’s Transform Me Then Into A Fish; and Pa Salieu’s Afrikan Alien. View the nominations in full below.

The 2025 awards show will be presented Oct. 16, at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle – the first time the ceremony has been hosted outside of London in its 33 year history. The event will feature live performances from nominees and will culminate in the announcement of the overall winner.

The shortlist was revealed at a launch event for the British press, held in central London. It was also announced live on BBC Radio 6 Music by host Lauren Laverne. As the Mercury Prize’s broadcast partner, BBC Music will provide coverage of the event across TV, radio, and online.

Albums released between Jul. 13, 2024 and Aug. 29, 2025 were eligible for consideration this year. The 12 shortlisted albums were chosen by an independent judging panel chaired by Jeff Smith, head of music, BBC 6 Music & Radio 2.

This year’s committee consisted of: Danielle Perry – broadcaster & writer; Jamie Cullum – musician & broadcaster; Jamz Supernova – broadcaster & DJ; Lea Stonhill – music programming consultant; Mistajam – songwriter, DJ & broadcaster; Phil Alexander – creative director, Kerrang!/contributing editor, Mojo; Sian Eleri – broadcaster & DJ; Will Hodgkinson – chief rock & pop critic, The Times; and Sophie Williams – writer & broadcaster.

Mercury Prize 2025 shortlist:

  • CMAT, EURO-COUNTRY
  • Emma-Jean Thackray, Weirdo
  • FKA twigs, EUSEXUA

  • Jacob Alon, In Limerence
  • Joe Webb, Hamstrings & Hurricanes

After pulling their tunes from Spotify, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are flipping the script once again by inviting fans to download their catalog on Bandcamp at whatever price they choose.

The prolific Australian psych-rock outfit have tagged all their downloadable albums as “name your price,” a generous promotion that has the hallmarks of Radiohead’s groundbreaking In Rainbows experiment from 2007, when the British band invited fans to pay whatever they wanted to download the then-new album, their first outside of the EMI machine.

King Gizz, as they’re known in their homeland, and with their loyal fans everywhere, has applied the pay-what-you-want offer to their considerable catalogue, and fans have got into the spirit of the exercise.

At the time of writing the entire top 25 digital albums on Bandcamp are from King Gizz.

The rockers are in a giving mood, after recently pulled their music from Spotify, a protest to CEO and co-founder Daniel Ek’s personal investment in military AI.

“Hello friends… A PSA to those unaware,” read a message on the band’s later Instagram Story, posted in late July. “Spotify CEO Daniel Ek invests millions in AI military drone technology… We just removed our music from the platform… Can we put pressure on these Dr. Evil tech bros to do better?… Join us on another platform.”

They’ve done just that.

King Gizz are no ordinary recording artists. At the time of writing, their discography numbers 27 studio albums, three EPs, and six live albums, a figure that could change any day now.

In 2017, the Melbourne act promised, and delivered, five studio albums in a calendar year. Five years later, they did it again, by releasing five albums in the calendar year 2022.

If Radiohead’s honest box concept is anything to go by, consumers won’t dig deep for King Gizz downloads. According to a 2007 study by Internet research group ComScore, which examined how consumers reacted to that unusual digital release strategy, 38% paid an average of $6. The rest paid nothing. The physical release was a conventional one, and a hit.

Since it was founded in 2008, Bandcamp boasts more than $1.57 billion paid to artists using the platform. Bandcamp downloads are available in MP3, FLAC and more, and supporters get unlimited streaming via the free Bandcamp app.

BRISBANE, Australia — BIGSOUND 2025 is now in the rearview, next year’s edition can be marked on the calendar.

Announced today (Sept. 10), the next BIGSOUND is locked in for Sept. 1-4, 2026 — the first week of the southern spring.

Produced by QMusic and presented in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, BIGSOUND is said to be the Southern Hemisphere’s largest specialist music industry gathering, and is entering its 25th year.

The dust has barely settled on BIGSOUND 2025, which welcomed more than 4,200 festival goers, including upwards of 1,700 official delegates, 130 performers, and at least 10,000 guests who strolled in for the free all-ages stages in the Brunswick Street Mall and Goolwal Garden (Sound Garden).

Speakers at the Sept. 2-5 conference included Blur drummer Dave Rowntree, veteran British music executive Darcus Beese, and homegrown artists BRIGGS, Mallrat and Tash Sultana. Showcasing artists included local indie artist Hatchie, electronic act Mansionair, and veteran pop-rock act Kisschasy.

Panel discussions included the “industry leaders” session, First Word: One Brilliant Thing, which explored the domestic industries big issues, and grand opportunities.

Dan Rosen, President of Warner Music Group Australasia, spoke on that panel, and urged the industry to pursue a top 5 ranking, matching the Australian Olympic team’s lofty achievements last year in Paris.

In the opening panel, he remarks, “I shared my perspective on Australia’s music export story. Australia is already punching above its weight at eighth globally — and with our artistic talent, infrastructure, and industry focus, we can position ourselves to break into the top five within the next few years. When Australian artists are adequately backed and strategically developed, the industry positions them for global impact and long-term success.”

Jaddan Comerford, UNIFIED Music Group founder & CEO, left the session on a high note.

“At the beginning of this year, I wrote about my themes for 2025. So I’ll leave these with you to reflect on: build community, celebrate music and stay positive. And I think that’s what we need to do,” he remarked. “We need to come together as an industry. We need to acknowledge the challenges, but we need to be positive. We need to support each other. And it’s awesome to feel so much positively from this panel, it’s so easy to fall into the negativity of the world. The music is awesome, Australian music is awesome, our industry is awesome. And yeah, let’s do this.”

K-pop visionary J.Y. Park is making the leap into politics.

South Korea’s President Lee Jae Myung has appointed Park (Park Jin-young), CEO of JYP Entertainment, as co-chair of the Presidential Committee on Popular Culture Exchange.

Announced Tuesday, Sept. 9, the new presidential committee has a mission to promote South Korean culture abroad while expanding exposure to international pop culture domestically.

Park shared his thoughts on his Instagram account. “I thought long and hard about taking on a government role, as it felt burdensome and worrisome in many ways for someone from the entertainment industry. But with K-pop facing such a special opportunity right now, I decided to embrace it and make the most of it,” he added.

Widely loved by the public, Park debuted as a solo artist in 1994, and last year presented a solo concert in Seoul to celebrate his 30th anniversary.

After founding JYP Entertainment in 1996, he launched artists including Rain, Wonder Girls, 2PM, TWICE, Day6 and Stray Kids, elevating the company to one of Korea’s top entertainment agencies.

In 2009, at the height of the Wonder Girls’ domestic popularity, he moved to the United States and essentially started from scratch. He secured the group a spot as the opening act for the Jonas Brothers’ North American tour, and guided the English-language version of the Wonder Girls’ “Nobody,” which became the first Korean song to enter the Billboard Hot 100, debuting and peaking at No. 76, for what turned out to be a week-long stay on the chart.

Park also posted a photo of the Wonder Girls from 2009 on his Instagram, remarking “My dream remains the same as it was in 2003 when I went to the U.S. to promote Korean artists to American record labels, in 2009 when the Wonder Girls became the first Korean act to enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and now: for K-pop to be loved worldwide.”

Park isn’t the first entertainer to enter politics in Korea. Yoo In-chon — a widely beloved actor from the 1980s through the 1990s — served twice as Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism. It is unprecedented, however, for someone who remains an active artist to be appointed to a minister-level position.

Meanwhile, shares of JYP Entertainment — where Park is the largest shareholder — were up 4.93% from the previous day as of 9 a.m. KST, and are currently trading 2.8% higher.

The company’s outlook itself also appears solid, thanks to the ongoing success of its frontline acts. Among them, TWICE, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, and is currently on the road for their fourth worldwide concert tour. Stray Kids recently set a new K-pop record as Karma became their seventh consecutive No. 1 on the Billboard 200, beginning with ODDINARY in 2022 (all debuted at the top spot). Also, Park has introduced localized idol groups through the affiliates of JYP Japan, JYP China, and JYP America.

Team Recycled are heading to the Finals of America’s Got Talent.

The quarterfinals of AGT 2025 are all wrapped up, as fans got an eyeful Tuesday night (Sept. 9) with muscleman Mike Munz, vocal duo Crash Adams, acrobatic pair The TT Boys, dance act The Funkateers Dancers, singing ensemble The Birmingham Youth Fellowship Choir, and others getting down to business.

The evening’s highpoint belonged to Team Recycled, a modern dance act that combines breakdancing with big, dramatic synchronized routines, and enough energy to power the Las Vegas Strip for a couple hours.

The room loved what they saw, and three of the judges gave a standing ovation (Sofía Vergara stayed seated).

Howie Mandel went first and remarked that he was disappointed with how the evening had panned out, because he was “looking for an act that would step it up,” someone who had the magic to win the whole thing.

Nobody looked likely to do that, he explained, until Team Recycled took the stage.

“I thought to myself, can they do it? And the answer is yes!”

Mandel didn’t waste any time, or let his fellow judges speak. He reached over and slapped that Golden Buzzer, clearing a path for the dance troupe to progress straight into the Final.

There were tears and hugs among the 42-strong teammates, as confetti and streamers rained down.

Now, America votes. The results of which will be announced Wednesday evening, Sept. 10. Seven performers will be sent home from this fourth quarterfinal. Three will join the advancing group, which returns to the AGT stage on Tuesday, Sept. 16 to compete in the Top 12.

That lucky dozen will chase seven available positions the Final, which include one Semifinal Golden Buzzer, six America’s votes, and the four Quarterfinal Golden Buzzer Acts.

The ultimate winner of NBC’s talent competition gets more than bragging rights; they’ll collect a $1 million prize. AGT is currently celebrating its 20th season.
