Future dropped his first solo project of the year Mixtape Pluto on Friday (Sept. 20) via Freebandz and Epic Records.
The 17-track project contains “Too Fast” and “Lil Demon,” which he teased earlier this month, as well as “South of France,” which Travis Scottteased even though the tracklist didn’t credit any featured artists. 808 Mafia’s Southside and Wheezy play a role in the production side, according to the former’s Instagram.
Mixtape Pluto marks the Atlanta native’s third project of 2024, following his pair of collaborative albums with Metro Boomin — We Don’t Trust You and We Still Don’t Trust You — which both topped the Billboard 200; the former album contained the blistering Kendrick Lamar-featuring Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 “Like That” track that ignited the biggest rap beef of the year between Lamar and Drake. The dynamic duo wrapped up their We Trust You Tour on Sept. 9 at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena. “Tour was successful thanks to all the fans..Grateful for every moment in every city’ WE TRUST YOU 2024,” he wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter) the day after the tour ended.

It’s a woman’s world, and Katy Perry‘s in charge. The pop superstar unveiled her sixth studio album, 143, on Friday (Sept. 20).
143, which is code for “I love you,” marks Perry’s first album since 2020’s Smile, which reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200. The project features previously released singles “Woman’s World” and “Lifetimes,” as well as Doechii and 21 Savage collaborations on “I’m His He’s Mine” and “Gimme Gimme,” respectively. Other song titles include “Crush,” “Nirvana,” “All the Love,” “Truth” and “Wonder,” among others.
“I set out to create a bold, exuberant, celebratory dance-pop album with the symbolic 143 numerical expression of love as a throughline message,” Perry previously shared in a statement about the project. On TikTok, she added, “143 is honestly a dance party. All fandoms, invited. And it’s high energy, lots of love, mostly lots of love and BPM, summer, sexy. And it’s for y’all.”
It’s been an exciting month for Perry, who received the Video Vanguard Award at the 2024 VMAs. “I’ve heard a lot of do this, don’t do that, wear less, wear more now, don’t cut your hair… one of the biggest reasons I’m standing here right now is I learned how to block out all the noise, that every single artist in this industry has to constantly fight against, especially women,” she said during her acceptance speech. “I just want to say with my whole heart, do whatever it takes to stay true to yourself and true to your art, turn off social media, safeguard your mental health, pause, touch grass, and do what you were born to do, just like I was born to do this.”

Alt-pop singer Alemeda has signed with Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) and Warner Records, Billboard can exclusively announce Friday (Sept. 20). She becomes the third female act to be signed to TDE, following SZA and Doechii.
“TDE placed trust and time in me to find my sound and develop as an artist at my own pace. I think to be signed to them means to be more than just an artist but to be a pivotal part of Black art and culture,” Alemeda said in a statement. “I’m honored to be the third woman ever signed to this historic roster of talented culture pavers. Warner also has a great understanding of who I am as an artist, and their historic success in the rock and pop genres makes me confident in our future together. I feel they were the right team to support my growth as an artist and I am excited for what is to come working with them alongside TDE.”
The news coincides with the release of the Ethiopian-Sudanese artist’s debut EP, FK IT. The 8-track project includes previously released singles like her viral 2021 debut “Gonna Bleach My Eyebrows,” “Guy’s Girl” and “I hate your face.” She also performed her latest single “I already dug your grave” on popular German performance series platform COLORSxSTUDIOS earlier this month. “This EP is the truest expression of who I am right now,” she adds. “It’s about letting go of what doesn’t serve me and embracing the chaos and beauty of being real, unapologetically.”
“One late night in December 2019, a few months before the pandemic, I was stuck in a rabbit hole scrolling Instagram when I happened to stumble across Alemeda. She was going by Rahema Alameda at the time and was doing a cool little bop with the brightest smile to a song of hers that she hadn’t released. I immediately felt she was gonna be great,” said TDE co-president Anthony “Moosa” Tiffith in a statement. “After reaching out to her, I learned that she hadn’t put out any music yet or even recorded in a studio before, so I flew her out to Los Angeles to give her that opportunity. When she told me about her strict upbringing and how she moved from Ethiopia to Arizona, I knew she had a story to tell.”
Tiffith continues: “She’s been here for the last four years, staying focused as a student of music and developing her sound. For most managers that must sound like a long time, but artist development is the most important thing to me. It’s a blessing to work with an artist like Alemeda who shares that vision and is willing to do the work. I’m happy and beyond excited to announce her to Top Dawg Entertainment, and equally enthusiastic for our partnership with Warner!”

Warner is also excited to work alongside TDE for Alemeda.”She’s an electrifying artist with a unique voice and vision, and FK IT is just the beginning of what will be an extraordinary journey. Her ability to channel her personal experiences into raw, boundary-pushing music makes her a perfect fit for our roster,” said Warner Records co-chairman/CEO Aaron Bay-Schuck in a statement.
He adds, “[Warner Records co-chairman/COO] Tom Corson, [Warner Records executive vp/head of A&R] Karen Kwak and our entire team is thrilled to be joining forces with Top Dawg Entertainment to bring Alemeda’s innovative artistry to an even wider audience. Collaborating with TDE’s exceptional team only amplifies our excitement for this groundbreaking partnership.”

In the wake of Atlantic Records’ reconstruction — which led to a number of layoffs — Nicki Minaj took to X to playfully share some advice for those who are now unemployed.
“Dear fired executives & A&R’s: Don’t be mad, UPS is hiring,” she wrote, before suggesting that they apply to her own record label, Heavy On It. “Also, feel free to submit your resumes for a job @ #HeavyOnIt.”
She added in another tweet: “They’ve been wanting empty arenas so bad. Obsessed with me while all your friends r getting fired is nasty work.”
The layoffs, which a source told Billboardaffected 150 to 175 employees, comes following the announcement that 10K Projects founder Elliot Grainge will take over as CEO of Atlantic Music Group, starting October 1. As part of his promotion, 10K will move under the Atlantic Music Group umbrella — joining Atlantic Records, Elektra and 300.
Atlantic Records CEO Robert Kyncl wrote in a memo to staff that the company will “be unveiling a new dynamic structure for the label group” next week. Atlantic’s cuts are the fourth round in the Warner Music Group family in roughly 18 months.

Karol G is back atop the Billboard Argentina Hot 100 chart as “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido” jumps 2-1 to lead the chart dated Sept. 21. It’s her first champ, and fourth overall, since “Bichota” ruled for five weeks starting the Dec. 12, 2020 ranking.
As “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido” lands at the summit on the Billboard Argentina Hot 100, it ends Valentino Merlo and The La Planta’s “Hoy” 11-consecutive-week coronation,, the longest-leading song in 2024, so far.
With four No. 1s on her chart account, Karol G enters an exclusive group of women who have secured at least four rulers or more since the ranking launched in 2018. Here’s the recap of those female soloists with the most No. 1s:
6, Maria Becerra 5, Emilia 5, Nicki Nicole 5, TINI 4, Karol G 2, Shakira
Emanero earns his highest debut to date with “Si Un Día Estás Sola (Big One CROSSOVER #7),” with Valentino Merlo and Big One, as the song debuts at No. 20 with the Hot Shot Debut honors.
Big One, meanwhile, places four other simultaneous songs on the chart, starting with “Cuando Te Vi (Big One Crossover #5),” with Maria Becerra and Trueno, which dips 4-6. “A Dónde Vas Si Te Vas (Big One Crossover #6),” with Miranda! and Ciro, drops 31-33, “Un Finde (Big One Crossover #2),” with Ke Personajes and FMK, lifts 66-65, and “La Intimidad (Big One Crossover #1),” with Emilia and Callejero Fino, reenters at No. 94.
Salastkbron takes the week’s Greatest Gainer trophy as “Dimelo Mami” surges 21 spots, from No. 56 to No. 35, for the song’s new peak.
Elsewhere, Coldplay’s “We Pray,” featuring Little Simz, Burna Boy, Elyanna and TINI, opens at No. 45. Plus, La T y la M’s “Amor de Vago,” with Malandro de América, arrives at No. 48.
Below the top 50, three other songs debut this week, starting with Argentinians Uriel Lozano and Un Poco de Ruido, who both score their first entry thanks to “Conmigo Le Gustó,” at No. 79. Argentinian rock band Los Piojos, likewise banks its first chart visit through “Tan Solo” at No. 89. Lastly, Migrantes, J Mena and Emanero’s“Como Si No Nos Amáramos” bows at No. 91.

ScHoolboy Q flooded the streets today by dropping three videos from his critically-acclaimed album Blue Lips.
First, we have “THank god 4 me” (directed by Omar Jones,) which opens with someone wearing a wire as he gets ready to hop in a detective’s car. The rest of the video is a series of dream sequences that feature American justice system imagery coupled with scenes depicting West Coast neighborhood life.
Then, there’s “Lost Times” featuring Jozzy on the hook. which is essentially a mashup of popular Disney cartoons being depicted with darker skin instead of their original complexion as they rap along.
Finally, there’s “Nunu” (directed by Q and James Edward), which shows ScHoolboy sitting on a porch of what looks like a slave cabin on a plantation. He then walks off and the camera pans out of him and a the film crew standing in front of the main estate. The second half of the video features a crowd rushing up the steps of another mansion as an unreleased song plays while Q walks down the steps. You can then see him in the same with Rolls Royce that he’s leaning on in the video of The Alchemist‘s new song “Ferraris in the Rain.” The video ends with someone stepping on a face made of clay.
In a press release, he explained the subject matter on Blue Lips a bit, saying, “Whatever happened in the past isn’t today. I can’t really fix it. But I can fix today and tomorrow.” That should explain the direction of the videos he released today.
He used this same strategy when he began the process of rolling out this latest effort. He posted clips on social media and videos on YouTube throughout the course of a couple weeks earlier this year in February.
