KJ Apa will soon be doin’ time on the set of an upcoming Sublime biopic.

As announced Thursday (Sept. 19), the Riverdale star has been cast to portray the late Bradley Nowell in Justin Chon’s film about the Long Beach band. With a screenplay written by Chon and Bobby Hundreds — based on an original draft from Chris Mundy — the 3000 Pictures flick counts original band members Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson as executive producers, along with Nowell’s wife, Troy, and son, Jakob.

Reposting the news on his Instagram Story, Apa expressed his gratitude for the role by simply typing a series of heart emojis.

The casting development comes just a few months after the surviving members of Sublime reunited at Coachella with Jakob performing as lead vocalist in his father’s place. The group disbanded in 1996 when Bradley died of heroin overdose, after which Gaugh and Wilson began performing with Rome Ramirez under the name Sublime With Rome.

“I love you dad,” Jakob reportedly said at the end of their historic set in the desert. “I love each one of you guys.”

Originally formed in California in 1988, Sublime didn’t see a chart breakthrough until shortly after Bradley’s death, when the trio’s self-titled third album reached No. 13 on the Billboard 200. The ska group’s debut LP 40oz. to Freedom subsequently charted, reaching No. 140.

Sublime had just one song make it to the Billboard Hot 100: “Doin’ Time,” which remains one of the trio’s most enduring hits, along with “Santeria.” The song peaked at No. 87 on the chart in 1997; more than 20 years later, Lana Del Rey’s cover of the track hit No. 59 on the ranking.

Elle King is reflecting on her comments about her tense relationship with her father, actor Rob Schneider.

During the “Ex’s and Oh’s” singer’s revealing interview on BunnieXO’s Dumb Blonde podcast in August, the singer accused her father of being “toxic” and generally absent from her life as a child. She admitted doesn’t like to be associated with him because “he’s just not nice.” “My dad called me and was like, ‘Don’t f—ing talk about me in the press,’” she shared on the podcast. “I was like, ‘Get f—ed.’”

The singer-songwriter also emphasized that she doesn’t agree with Schneider’s controversial political views and recalled how she once “got in trouble” for not losing any weight while suffering from a sprained ankle. “I was a really, really heavy child, and my dad sent me to fat camp,” she continued. “My dad forgot every single birthday.”

King told People in a recent interview that she didn’t expect the podcast clips would be so widespread on the Internet. “I never in a million years thought that that was going to go viral. I was just speaking about my childhood and about my truth,” she told the publication. “I was not trying to hurt him.”

She continued, “A lot of people said, ‘How could she say that about her family?’ and ‘Everything needs to be behind closed doors.’ No, it doesn’t. Sometimes you have to just say things and get them off your chest so that you don’t have to carry it for the rest of your life.”

Schneider issued a public apology to his daughter while chatting with Tucker Carlson. “I want to tell my daughter, Elle, I love you. I wish I was the father in my 20s that you needed, and clearly, I wasn’t,” he said. “I hope you can forgive me for my shortcomings. I love you completely, I love you entirely. I just want you to be well and happy, you and your beautiful baby, Lucky. I wish you the best. I feel terrible, and I just want you to know that I don’t take anything you say personally.”

However, King addressed her father’s apology to People, noting, “Ultimately, I think an apology on Tucker Carlson is like a double negative, right? Means nothing.”

She concluded of the experience, “What I will say is the best thing that came from that is that my incredible LGBTQ+ community knows that they have an ally in me. And if that’s the biggest thing to come out of that platform, then I would’ve done it 10 more f—ing times because I am an ally, they have one in me, and I’m grateful.”

Pharrell’s Piece by Piece documentary is slated to arrive Oct. 11 and features his innovative storytelling on the silver screen, but in LEGO form. Skateboard P revealed to Variety in a recent interview that when seeking permission from his celebrity friends like Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg to clear their cameos in the documentary, he left out a key detail: that they would be appearing as LEGOs.

“We purposely did not tell anyone that that would be the finished product,” he said. “We wanted people to just answer the questions and really give their full, unedited reactions to the opportunity to do the interviews.”

Pharrell continued: “Because if we would’ve said, ‘OK, this is going to be in LEGO,’ then people would have sort of curved what they were saying. … We didn’t want them to be influenced by what we wanted. We wanted the purest part. And I feel like part of the magic of what makes this film pop the way it does is because it’s so vivid and it’s not scripted.”

In addition to Hov and Snoop, fans can expect guest appearances from key career figures for P like Kendrick Lamar, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Pusha T, Gwen Stefani and more.

The eccentric creative defended his decision to go with animated LEGOs as his storytelling medium since they extended the depths of his imagination while growing up.

“I was given LEGO sets as a child, and that was a really amazing platform for me to allow my imagination to flourish and to learn things about myself, as it has for most kids and a lot of people — millions and millions of people on this planet,” he added.

Jay and Pharrell have a decorated collaborative history that includes Billboard Hot 100 hits such as “I Just Wanna Love You,” “Frontin,” “APESHIT” and many more.

Directed by Morgan Neville, look for Piece by Piece to hit U.S. theaters Oct. 11. Watch the trailer below.

South African artist The Kiffness has taken his viral, Donald Trump-inspired track to the stage.

The Kiffness (real name David Scott) shared a video to social media on Thursday (Sept. 19) in which he’s seen performing his viral “They’re Eating the Cats” track in Munich, Germany. “‘Eating the Cats’ live in Munich last night. Only a week ago I was in my studio in South Africa writing this song,” he captioned the clip alongside a laughing emoji.

The song is a remix of a false claim Trump made during the presidential debate against Kamala Harris on September 10. “In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs—the people that came in. They’re eating the cats,” he said in reference to the Haitian migrants in the Ohio city.

“My initial desire to remix the quote was because I thought it was amusing and outlandish, but I also recognized the melodic element to the statement. I decided to give it a shot and I had the basic idea for the song in a matter of minutes,” The Kiffness told Newsweek of his inspiration to remix the line from the debate.

The now-viral YouTube video has more than five million views at the time of publication. Listen to “They’re Eating the Cats” in full below.

Fat Joe is taking his charismatic storytelling to cable TV.

The Bronx MC’s weekly interview series Fat Joe Talks with STARZ is set to premiere Friday, Oct. 4 and his first guest will be fellow rap legend Method Man. They’ll be talking about the Staten Island rapper’s storied rap career and his successful transition into Hollywood as the two legends visit hometown landmarks that are meaningful to him. Method Man currently stars in Power Book II: Ghost as lawyer Davis MacLean, a role that has earned him three NAACP Image Awards.

In a press release, Joe shared his excitement in having the opportunity to host his talk show. “I’ve been preparing all my life for the moment to host my own show and it’s finally here,” he said. “We are going to make history and I’m grateful to STARZ, Embassy Row and SpringHill for believing in the vision. I’m looking forward to showing another side of my personality and having compelling conversations with some of the world’s most influential leaders and entertainers. Get your popcorn ready.”

He’s made a name for himself as a storyteller over the years, especially on social media where his breakdowns of events like the epic Verzuz between The LOX and The Diplomats have gone viral and turned into memes; most notably the saying, “Yesterday’s price is not today’s price.”

Fat Joe Talks is executive produced by Fat Joe, LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Philip Byron, and Jamal Henderson for SpringHill, along with Michael Davies for Embassy Row. Some of the featured guests will include Mary J. Blige, Democratic House Majority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, T.I., Babyface, Latto, Buju Banton, and Remy Ma, with more to be announced soon.

“On behalf of the board, I’m excited to welcome Daniel to TelevisaUnivision as we embark on the next phase of our strategic journey focused on further integration and optimization,” TelevisaUnivision’s executive chairman, Alfonso de Angoitia, said in a press release. “It’s been a very dynamic media environment, and we are grateful for what Wade has accomplished in the turnaround of Univision and the subsequent transformative merger between Univision and Televisa’s content business to create TelevisaUnivision.”

“The media landscape is undergoing a profound transformation and TelevisaUnivision is strategically poised to seize new opportunities while staying deeply connected to the communities we serve,” Alegre said in a release. “The U.S. and Mexico represent the most valuable and populous Spanish-language markets in the world, a demographic that is becoming more prominent both regionally and globally.”

Originally from Mexico, the new network leader possesses operational-focused leadership experience within the Hispanic community and across the U.S., Mexico and Latin America. With over three decades working in media, entertainment and technology, Alegre was most recently CEO of Yuga Labs, a web3 company. He previously served as president and COO of Activision Blizzard.

“Building on TelevisaUnivision’s solid foundation, global content pipeline, ongoing investments in cutting-edge technologies, and unmatched reach, we are uniquely positioned to continue serving this vital audience,” Alegre continued. “Wade and the entire TelevisaUnivision team have created a strong multi-platform media business with world-class quality and breadth of entertainment, news and sports programming.”

Davis added, “We could not have picked a better successor than Daniel, who brings an incredible track record of operational and strategic execution. He is the ideal executive to take TelevisaUnivision into its next phase of growth. The Company’s future is bright, and I look forward to supporting Daniel and the TelevisaUnivision team in my role as vice chairman of the board.”

During Davis’ Univision tenure, the company completed a $4.8 billion merger with Group Televisa in 2022, forming TelevisaUnivision as it is known today. The broadcaster has made significant investments in streaming and traditional TV, with its ViX streaming platform approaching profitability. It also runs 35 radio stations across the U.S.
