It’s no secret that Disney fame often leads to mainstream success, and over the course of the Billboard Hot 100 chart’s history, we’ve seen actors and musicians from Disney Channel movies and shows turn into some of today’s biggest stars.

Most recently, Sabrina Carpenter scored her first Hot 100 chart topping song with “Please Please Please,” which made its way to the top of the tally on the chart dated June 29, 2024. With the achievement, Carpenter joins a number of fellow Disney musicians to earn a No. 1 hit, including Olivia Rodrigo, Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, Selena Gomez, Justin Timberlake and more.

Besides the chart toppers, there are a number of former Disney darlings that have Hot 100 hits under their belts, even though they didn’t reach the summit. For example, Vanessa Hudgens, Zac Efron and Drew Seeley‘s “Breaking Free” from High School Musical reached No. 4 on the chart dated February 11, 2006. Fellow HSM alums, Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel, got a No. 35 hit with “What I’ve Been Looking For” during the same week. Raven Symoné entered the chart way back in 1993 with “That’s What Little Girls Are Made Of” (No. 68) and reappeared in 2006 with “Strut” (No. 53), alongside fellow Cheetah Girls stars Adrienne Bailon, Sabrina Bryan and Kiely Williams. Hilary Duff‘s 2007 hit, “With Love,” meanwhile, peaked at No. 24 in 2007.

In the 2010s, Ross Lynch entered the chart alongside Grace Phipps and Jason Evigan with “Cruisin’ for a Bruisin’,” which peaked at No. 82 in 2013. Meanwhile, Demi Lovato notched their biggest chart hit with “Sorry Not Sorry,” which reached No. 6 on the tally dated Nov. 11, 2017.

Ryan Gosling — who was in The All-New Mickey Mouse Club in the 1990s, scored his first appearance on the Hot 100 when “I’m Just Ken,” from 2023 Barbie movie, debuted at No. 87.

In celebration of former Disney stars’ success on the charts, see below for a list of nine former Disney stars who have topped the Billboard Hot 100.

The Mavericks frontman and lead guitarist Raul Malo shared with fans on Thursday (June 27) that he is undergoing treatment for cancer. In a video posted to the group’s official Instagram page, Malo noted that the cancer was detected after he underwent a physical, a catscan and a colonoscopy.

In a statement Malo wrote to fans (and provided to Billboard), the singer further shared, “Recently, the doctors found a few cancerous spots in my digestive system. Obviously, this isn’t the news I was hoping to get, or to share with you all.”

However, Malo was quick to tell fans that he is surrounded by a top team of doctors and medical professionals in Nashville, adding, “They’ve reassured me this is a very common form of cancer, and my odds are good. Fortunately, we have a plan in place, and I’m feeling great! I’ll continue to be as active as possible throughout these treatments, but it does mean a few shows may be affected this year, and we’ll have more information for you as soon as possible on that.”

Malo added, “But most importantly, I wanted to say to my fellow men out there, and anyone who may be reading this — It’s important to take care of your health, and to see a doctor for checkups, especially if something is wrong. With modern medicine, these types of cancer are very survivable with proper treatment, but if you don’t get checked, you’ll never know. It’s important to do it for your family, the people around you, and those you love.

“I’m sharing this message in the spirit of transparency and honesty, as you all have stuck with us throughout these 35 crazy years of music, shows, breaking up, & getting back together – we’ve even survived a pandemic together,” he continued, “We’ll get through this just like we have everything else. In the meantime, I want you to know I’m not going anywhere, and I’ll look forward to seeing you all out on the road again soon.”

Malo also thanked fans for their support of the group’s recent album Moon & Stars, which released May 17 and featured appearances from Sierra Ferrell, Maggie Rose, Nicole Atkins and Max Abrams.

The Mavericks have been on tour this year in support of the album, but noted that a few shows will have to be canceled or postponed. Shows in Aspen, Colorado (set for July 12) and Steamboat Springs, Colorado (July 14) have been canceled, while a July 13 show in Denver has been rescheduled to Aug. 25. Later in the year, the group has shows slated in Los Angeles, Dallas, and Detroit, as well as a pair of shows at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on Dec. 6-7.

The group, which meshes the talents of Malo, guitarist Eddie Perez, keyboard player Jerry Dale McFadden and drummer Paul Deakin, formed in Miami and relocated to Nashville in the 1980s. In the years since releasing their self-titled debut album in 1990, the Mavericks have become known for their genre-melding blend of country, rock, Tejano, samba, soul and more. In 1995, they earned a Grammy win for best country performance by a duo /group with vocals for “Here Comes the Rain.” The group has seen five of their albums reach the top 10 on Billboard’s top country albums chart, including 2015’s Mono. In 2020, the group leaned into its Latin roots, with the release of the project En Español.

KATSEYE debuts their group with their new single, “Debut.” Lisa is a “Rockstar” with her newest drop and Jimin releases “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band (Featuring Loco).”

Tetris Kelly:

LISA returns with a slay, and a global girl group makes their debut. We’re breaking down the huge K-Pop new releases. We were with them when they formed last November, and now the girls of KATSEYE make their debut with “Debut.” And the sure to be summer bop is full of sass and top notch choreo that we would expect from the talented group of six. And keeping the girl power going is LISA from BLACKPINK with “Rockstar.” Not only are the song and video epic, but she even includes three popular Thai transgender women showing progression in the genre. Jimin smiles and we all smile. The BTS member released “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band (Featuring Loco).” The first of more singles to come from his new album ‘MUSE,’ out July 19th. And the first offering just feels so good. It’s heartfelt perfection.

Eminem fans will have more reason to celebrate Independence Day after Slim Shady announced plans for his second album single, out next week.

The Detroit native is connecting three different generations of rappers out of The D with Em recruiting Babytron and Big Sean to hop on the menacing “Tobey.” Eminem gave fans a glimpse into the track’s horror theme with a trailer on Friday (June 28).

“TOBEY@babytron @bigsean new music 7/2 video 7/5 by @colebennett,” Em captioned the clip revealing “Tobey” will arrive on Tuesday, July 2, with a Cole Bennett-helmed music video coming two days later, on Friday, July 5.

The clip finds Em in a Jason Voorhees goalie mask revving a chainsaw and gushing blood while slicing up a body. Babytron and Big Sean watch Eminem’s gruesome butchering in tow without batting an eye.

The ticking ominous production begins and Big Sean gets off the only Spider-Man referencing bar heard in the clip. “Tobey Maguire got bit by a Spider, but me, see it was a goat,” he raps.

Fans had plenty to say about the upcoming single in Em’s comment section. “We got Eminem x Baby Tron before GTA6,” one wrote while another added: “Baby ft big sounds hilarious!”

“Tobey” marks Em’s first collab with Babytron and fourth with Big Sean following their team-up in 2017 on I Decided’s “No Favors,” Detroit 2‘s “Friday Night Cypher” and ShadyXV‘s “Detroit Vs. Everybody.”

Eminem’s The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) will serve as his 12th studio album and is slated to arrive at some point this summer.

The 51-year-old kicked off the album rollout with his nostalgic “Houdini” single, which gave Em his highest-charting track of the decade when it debuted at No. 2 on the Hot 100.

Watch the “Tobey” trailer below. Look for the single to hit streaming services on July 3.

You have the right to remain silent, but you may be tempted to sing along now that Lil Nas X‘s catchy new single “Here We Go!” for Netflix’s upcoming Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F has dropped.

Related

Featuring a prominent sample of the brassy “Axel F” theme song originally written by Harold Faltermeyer, “Here We Go!” finds the 25-year-old rapper flexing his top-dog status over intense bass drums and a trap beat. “And tell them don’t die tryna catch us/ Could go a million miles wouldn’t catch up,” he sings on the track, which arrived Friday (June 28). “Move, tell ’em just move/ Tell ’em just move, move, move.”

“Axel F” was a top five Billboard Hot 100 hit for Faltermeyer in 1985, peaking at No. 3.

Lil Nas X’s first solo release since January’s “Where Do We Go Now?,” the new song will both serve as Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F‘s main theme as well as play over the end credits. The film premieres on Netflix July 3 and marks the Eddie Murphy-led franchise’s fourth installment following Beverly Hills Cop III in 1994.

“It was actually kind of insane,” the “Old Town Road” artist said of being asked to provide the track in a recent sit-down with the Axel F cast. “I was a bit emotional … I’m happy to do it. I hope I’m not slaughtered by people who love the original.”

“Nah, your track is bananas,” Murphy assured him, as captured in a video posted to Netflix’s Instagram.

The actor added, “I’m excited to have some new music and have this brother be the one that’s on it.”

Aside from “Here We Go!,” LNX has so far released the solo single “J Christ” as well as collaborations with Camila Cabello (“He Knows”) and Kevin Abstract (“Tennessee”) in 2024. He hasn’t released an album since his 2021 debut LP Montero, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.

The Georgia native also opened up about his new film feature in a since-deleted Instagram post earlier this week, writing: “so excited to release the best song of all time this friday! also sorry I’ve been so scared with my art lately. I’m coming around to myself again. I will make you guys very proud.”

Listen to “Here We Go!” below.

Back in April, Donald Glover revealed on a livestream of his GILGA radio show that he would be releasing two more albums under the Childish Gambino before he retires it for good. He already dropped the first of the two with Atavista, which is essentially the a more polished version of his 3.15.20 album that he released in 2020. The second — and last as Childish Gambino — will be Bando Stone and the New World, which will double as the soundtrack to the upcoming movie of the same name.

Last night, the rapper-slash-actor posted a picture of ticket stubs to an advance IMAX screening of A Quiet Place: Day One with the caption, “Bando Stone trailer is coming tonight @imax.”

The trailer hasn’t been released online yet, but one fan took it upon themselves to record the trailer and put it on the Internet in the name of civic duty. It opens with a confused Bando Stone wondering where all the people are until he runs into a mother and her kid. What comes next is a bunch of dystopian things happening like washed up sea monsters and alien lasers trying to trap them. While all this is going down, the trailer poses the question, “What are you when the world ends?”

The film also stars English actress Jessica Allain and is produced by Glover’s creative studio GILGA in association with RCA. There’s no release date yet, but the movie and its soundtrack will be dropping this year.

Bando Stone and the New World will screen exclusively in IMAX theaters.
