Hanukkah begins at sundown on Sunday (Dec. 14), kicking off eight crazy nights of the festival of lights with prayers, menorah-lighting, dreidel games, chocolate coins and the singing of a number of traditional songs commemorating the rededication of the second temple in Jerusalem following the outmanned Maccabean revolt against their Greek/Syrian oppressors.

While the joyous holiday is often embodied by the eight-slotted menorah and the nightly lighting of colorful candles signifying the miracle of a single day’s-worth of oil lasting eight days, it is also a time to crank up some music to celebrate the emergence of light in the darkness.

Sure, Christmas has top-billing around this time of year thanks to such indelible holiday standards as Mariah Carey’s inescapable “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and other Xmas favorites by Wham! (“Last Christmas”), Bing Crosby (“White Christmas”), Brenda Lee (“Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”) and Andy Williams (“It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”).

But Hanukkah is no slouch thanks to less chart-friendly family favorites such as “Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah,” “I Have a Little Dreidel” and comedian Adam Sandler’s beloved “The Chanukah Song.” You’re likely familiar with those, but did you know that raunch master-rapper Too $hort has his own not-kosher-for-your-bubbe ode to his favorite time of the year called “The Hanukkah Song?”

Maybe you’re feeling blue this year and need a bit of soul to go with your latkes? Never fear, late R&B singer Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings have you covered with their 1970s funk banger “8 Days (Of Hanukkah).”

So take a seat Santa and let the (macca)beats bang with these eight Hanukkah jams.

21 Savage is as loyal as they come. During a time when many turned their back on Drake, 21 held the OVO rapper down throughout his 2024 feud with Kendrick Lamar.

Related

Savage opened up in a new interview about how he advised Drake not to go into battle with Kendrick following what appears to be “Like That,” as he believed Drizzy really had nothing to gain from the back-and-forth since he was already the top dog in rap.

“How can you win a battle if n—as want you to lose it,” Savage told Perspektives With Bank on Thursday (Dec. 11). Even if you win, you lose. No matter what. Even if Kendrick never responded, man. If Drake just dropped songs and Kendrick never responded or nothing, he still don’t win because his position didn’t change.”

21 called the battle “rigged” by the public since he would’ve “been the bad guy for winning.”

“He called me one of them days or I called him,” 21 added. “I think this was after the first song, the song with Metro and them, and I said, ‘You finna go into a battle that you can’t win, like, there’s no way you can win.’ No matter what, bruh. Certain situations, even if you win, you still don’t win.”

The Slaughter Gang boss explained that Drake said he felt like he was being “challenged lyrically,” so he had to respond.

“I told that n—a leave that s—t alone. He felt like he was being challenged lyrically, so he wanted to respond,” 21 continued. “Certain situations even if you win, you still don’t win. When you the No. 1 n—a, where does winning put you? You can’t go 1.1.”

Drake and Kendrick ended up exchanging about nine diss tracks, from Drake’s “Push Ups” through “The Heart Pt. 6.” The public consensus championed Lamar as the victor following the release of his Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 smash “Not Like Us.” (Lamar was just named Billboard‘s 2025 Top R&B/Hip-Hop Artist as well as Top Billboard Hot 100 Songwriter of the year.)

On the music side of his own, 21 Savage returned with his new album, What Happened to the Streets?, on Friday (Dec. 12). Among the star-studded guests, 21 reunited with Drake for “Mr Recoup,” which adds to their decorated list of collaborations.

As for Drake, the OVO faithful are still awaiting the arrival of Iceman, which Drizzy’s continued to tease throughout the second half of 2025.

As final-round Grammy voting opens on Friday (Dec. 12), Recording Academy members will see that four of the five Grammy nominees for best album cover list the recording artists themselves as art director (or co-art director).

Tyler Okonma, better known as Tyler, The Creator, is nominated as the art director of his smash album CHROMAKOPIA. He is competing with Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, better known as Bad Bunny, for Debí Tirar Más Fotos; Joe Keery, better known as Djo, for The Crux (on which he shared the art director credit with Jake Hirshland, Neil Krug, Taylor Vandergrift and William Wesley II) and Rhian Teasdale, a member of Wet Leg, for moisturizer (on which he shared the credit with Iriz Luz and Lava La Rue).

The only nominee for best album cover who is not the recording artist is Perfume Genius’ album Glory. The nominated art directors are Cody Critcheloe & Andrew J.S.

The Recording Academy relaunched the best album cover category this year, but the category dates to the first Grammy ceremony in 1959. Frank Sinatra won in the category as the art director of his album, Frank Sinatra Sings for Only the Lonely. Sinatra’s album was also nominated for album of the year, as are two of this year’s nominees for best album cover – Tyler’s CHROMAKOPIA and Bunny’s Debí Tirar Más Fotos.

The academy announced the new category in June, stating that the award “recognizes excellence in cover art for albums or recordings of any genre of music released for the first time during the eligibility year. The elements judged in this category include the creativity, design, illustration, photography, and/or graphic art of the album cover.” The eligibility criteria stipulates that the cover must be “predominantly new”, and that reissued recordings with minor artwork changes are not eligible. The award goes to the art director(s) of the album.

While the Grammys have had awards for album packaging every year, prior to this relaunch they had a category specially called best album cover just from 1959-61 and again from 1969-73.

Regarding the need for a specific category honoring album covers, Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. stated: “In today’s digital world, album covers are arguably more impactful than ever. Chances are, there’s an iconic cover that’s instantly recognizable to you, even if you never owned the physical album. Their cultural significance is undeniable. That’s one of the reasons members of the art director community and our Awards & Nominations members felt this Category was necessary.”

Recording artists are taking a larger role in the art direction of their albums. In the Grammys’ first 32 years, Sinatra was the only artist to win a Grammy as the art director of his own album.

In the last 35 years, 10 artists won as art directors (or co-art directors) in the best recording package category – Suzanne Vega for Days of Open Hand (1991); Joni Mitchell for Turbulent Indigo (1996); Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel for that band’s Ride With Bob (2000); Ani DiFranco for Evolve (2004); Aimee Mann for The Forgotten Arm (2006); Adam Jones of Tool for that band’s 10,000 Days (2007); Michael Carney of The Black Keys for that band’s Brothers (2011); Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam for that band’s Lightning Bolt (2015); and Josh Tillman, better known as Father John Misty, for Pure Comedy (Deluxe Edition) (2018); and Charli XCX for BRAT (2025).

When the Grammy nominations were announced on Nov. 7, Shaun Llewellyn and Luis “Panch” Perez were listed as the nominated art directors of Tyler, the Creator’s album. On Dec. 9, their names were removed and the nomination was awarded to Tyler, the Creator. Likewise, when the nominations were announced, William Wesley II was the sole art director nominated for Djo’s The Crux. The other nominees, including Djo, were added on Dec. 9.

These post-announcement changes to the list are routine. In the weeks following the nominations announcement, the academy reviews the thousands of names across the 95 categories and makes adjustments as needed. Here’s a link to the academy’s “Grammy Award Update Center,” where it lists changes. (Billboard continually updates its nominations list to reflect these changes.)

Final-round Grammy voting runs through Jan. 5. The 68th annual Grammy Awards will be presented on Feb. 1 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Here are this year’s nominees for best album cover in list format:

  • CHROMAKOPIA, Tyler Okonma, art director (Tyler, The Creator)
  • The Crux, Jake Hirshland, Joe Keery, Neil Krug, Taylor Vandergrift & William Wesley II, art director (Djo)
  • Debí Tirar Más Fotos, Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, art director (Bad Bunny)
  • Glory, Cody Critcheloe & Andrew J.S., art directors (Perfume Genius)
  • moisturizer, Iris Luz, Lava La Rue & Rhian Teasdale, art directors (Wet Leg)

In November, the Recording Academy made history by recognizing a K-pop girl group with a nomination for the first time. It just so happened that particular girl group was fictional.

HUNTR/X — the trio of animated K-pop idols Rumi, Mira and Zoey, voiced by human artists EJAE, Audrey Nuna and REI AMI, respectively — notched Grammy nods for song of the year and best pop duo/group performance, among other nominations in film-focused categories. As Nuna told Billboard at the time of the group’s nods: “I think we’re just very, very, very grateful to be a part of what feels like a very cultural and historic moment.”

That moment extends beyond the Grammys. Since its release on Netflix in June, KPop Demon Hunters has become the rare streaming movie to attain cultural ubiquity. After the film earned critical acclaim and became the platform’s most popular original movie of all time, Netflix broke with its own streaming strategy and gave the project a limited singalong release in theaters; it proceeded to earn the No. 1 spot at the box office in its opening weekend. Less than two weeks later, KPop Demon Hunters surpassed Squid Game to become the most streamed title in Netflix’s history.

But the project accomplished even greater feats with its music. After slowly climbing the charts following the film’s release, the soundtrack spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in September and October. Its rise was boosted by the runaway success of “Golden,” which became a Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit in August and ruled the ranking for eight weeks. On the Billboard Global 200, it has topped the chart for 18 weeks. Plus, the soundtrack became the first to have four songs simultaneously appear in the Hot 100’s top 10, with “How It’s Done,” “Your Idol” and “Soda Pop” (the latter two of which were sung by the film’s fictional boy band, Saja Boys) joining “Golden.” Even outside the charts, the singers behind HUNTR/X appeared in a Saturday Night Live sketch alongside global superstar Bad Bunny and performed during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

KPop Demon Hunters serves as just the latest and most potent example of the dominating success music written for film can have amid the larger music landscape in 2025. Whether it’s familiar show tunes adapted from a beloved musical (Wicked: For Good), a mix of blues and folk covers with some rootsy originals (Sinners) or a blockbuster compilation of pop A-listers (F1: The Movie), music in film has had a compounding impact on shaping the year’s biggest cultural moments.

Ian Eisendrath, the executive music producer behind KPop Demon Hunters, told Billboard earlier this year that when it came to a smash like “Golden,” he knew that for the song to work, it couldn’t just be presented as a success in the plot of the film — it had to be a hit everywhere.

“The song couldn’t be our approximation of the K-pop hit — it actually had to be one,” he said. “The film directors [Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans] were amazing to work with, but they were tough customers because they knew exactly what they wanted. But the first time I played ‘Golden’ for them, they were like, ‘That’s it.’ ”

Oftentimes, Disney has been the leading studio behind such cross-cultural moments. Signature hits from Frozen and Encanto previously reached the upper echelons of the Billboard charts: The former’s “Let It Go” reached No. 5 on the Hot 100 in 2014 and the latter’s “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” topped the chart in 2022. But in 2025, films like KPop Demon Hunters cracked the code without that level of established history.

Take F1: The Movie as an example. To help create a soundtrack that could pierce through the noise, Apple Studios teamed with Atlantic Records (the label behind original soundtracks to Barbie and Twisters) to curate a set that spoke to global audiences, featuring Tate McRae, Don Toliver, Rosé and more internationally recognizable names. “A big part of [our] general strategy was, ‘What are we doing that has a global feel?’ ” Atlantic president of West Coast Kevin Weaver told Billboard earlier in 2025. The strategy worked, with songs from McRae, Toliver and Rosé becoming top 40 hits on the Global 200.

Even when the year’s films didn’t quite manage to spin their songs into massive global hits, they still found their audience. While the soundtrack to Sinners only spent one week in the mid-100s of the Billboard 200, the set still ruled the Blues Albums chart for 19 nonconsecutive weeks. The soundtrack was also named by editorial staff one of Billboard’s top albums from the first half of the year, while the movie took home the top prizes (including best score and song for a feature film) at the 2025 Hollywood Music in Media Awards.

KPop Demon Hunters, along with Sinners and F1: The Movie, have already racked up nominations for the 2026 Grammys and Golden Globes — and all three films and their soundtracks are strong contenders for Academy Awards nominations, too. With such mile markers pointing to continued cultural relevance, it’s clear that when film and music work in tandem, their cultural impact only goes, as “Golden” suggests, “up, up, up.”

This story appears in the Dec. 13, 2025, issue of Billboard.

We’re still awaiting word on who will play the next James Bond following Daniel Craig’s retirement from the iconic role in 2021 after five films. But on Thursday night (Dec. 11) we learned that rock icon Lenny Kravitz will slip into the role of a Bond villain named Bawma in the upcoming video game 007: First Light.

Kravitz attended last night’s Game Awards to make the announcement. “I’ll be bringing the character of Bawma to life in 007 First Light. @007gameIOI,” Kravitz tweeted after the show. “Introducing Bawma, the largest black-market dealer in the Western Hemisphere who’s as charismatic as he is unpredictable. He rose from nothing, broke free, and built his own Kingdom of Aleph.”

The game, set for release next year, will star Patrick Gibson(Dexter: Original Sin) as a young Bond in a third-person action-adventure game that is described as a reimagining of the super spy’s origin story at age 26. A one-minute trailer depicts the youthful Bond leaping between buildings, beating up and disarming bad guys, scaling treacherous mountains and squaring off against the ominous Bawma.

“I am sometimes asked, ‘Bawma, how is it that you hear every whisper in every corner of Aleph,” Kravitz’s character says ominously in the game’s new trailer as he sits in perfect Bond baddie shadow while the held-captive super spy hangs suspended from his ankles in his nemesis’ lair. “And I answer, ‘I built Aleph with my will, my blood, my whole self.’”

As he slowly rises from his leather chair with the aid of a cane, we then get the first glimpse of Bond’s latest power-hungry archenemy who looks, well, kind of like Lenny Kravitz. Shirtless, naturally, with Kravitz’ signature 6-pack abs and a torso covered in animal-print tattoos and sporting facial piercings and Lenny’s long locs, Bawma says, “this city is an extension of my being. My body… today it became infected,” as an unfortunate victim is shoved into an alligator pit to his doom.

“Easy girls, plenty of meat for everyone,” Bawma sneers as the always quippy Bond laments, “the girls, of course.”

In a statement, Kravitz added, “The Bond franchise has such an incredible legacy in video games, so to step into it with a brand-new character like Bawma is amazing. He’s magnetic and unpredictable, there’s danger in him, but also heart and purpose. He’s not just a man with power; he is a man who has to fight for every inch of it. Bringing that energy into 007’s world felt incredible.”

In addition to Kravitz, the game’s cast also includes Priyanga Burford (Steve) as Bond boss M, Lennie James (The Walking Dead) as Bond mentor John Greenway, Kiera Lester (Ruby Speaking) as M’s secretary, Miss Moneypenny, Alastair Mackenzie (Backdraft 2) as Bond gadget man Q, Noemie Nakai (Tokyo Vice) as the elusive Miss Roth and Gemma Chan (Eternals) as Selina Tan, an MI6er who helps Bond land his 00 gig. The game is expected to be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam and Epic Games Store.

Kravitz is new to the gaming world, but he’s flexed his acting chops a number of times over the years, playing himself in Zoolander and appearing in 2009’s Oscar-winning Precious, two Hunger Games films as Katniss’ stylist Cinna, as well as 2013’s The Butler and 2022’s Shotgun Wedding.

The original lyrics to songs on Taylor Swift‘s Reputation may not have been end game after all. After Apple Music updated all of the pop superstar’s music to Dolby Atmos, fans noticed a few tweaks to a couple of the 2017 album’s most beloved tracks.

Related

The most striking update comes to track three, the explosive “I Did Something Bad.” Rather than the original lyric — “If he spends my change, then he had it coming” — Swift now sings, “If he calls me a b—h, then he had it coming,” according to clips posted on social media by Swifties.

Fans also say they found another change in track five, “Delicate.” Rather than “Oh damn, never seen that color blue,” the 14-time Grammy winner says instead, “Goddamn, never seen that color blue.”

The second switch-up is definitely more subtle, but it definitely creates a noticeable difference in Swift’s vocal delivery.

Billboard has reached out to her rep for comment.

Listeners have no idea why the changes have occurred, but naturally, Swifties are wondering whether it has anything to do with Reputation (Taylor’s Version). The singer’s original eight-year-old album was one of two left in the series of re-records Swift had been rolling out before she reclaimed ownership of her full catalog earlier this year, at which time she revealed that Reputation was the only one of her first six LPs she’d barely started re-doing.

“Full: transparency: I haven’t even re-recorded a quarter of it,” she wrote in a letter to fans at the time. “The Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life, and I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it. All that defiance, that longing to be understood while feeling purposely misunderstood, that desperate hope, that shame-born snarl and mischief. To be perfectly honest, it’s the one album in those first six that I thought couldn’t be improved upon by redoing it.”

That said, Swift also teased that she may still someday unleash the unreleased Vault tracks from the Reputation time period.

Spending four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2017, Reputation endures as one of the most beloved Swift albums among her fans. That much was clear night after night on the musician’s global Eras Tour — whenever she popped out in her black, snake-like bodysuit for the Reputation portion of the show, the crowd’s cheers would spike from deafening to ear-splitting.

Swift is now reliving that magic in The End of an Era, a new Disney+ docuseries that premiered on Friday (Dec. 12) about how she pulled off the historic trek.

This also gives you a nice grip, making it easy to hold and carry the tumbler around with you everywhere you go. If you can’t possibly decide which quencher color you want, the brand offers a four-pack with every quencher color in the 30oz size for $250.

And in a raw interview with ABC News’ 20/20 for a special about the making of Avatar: Fire and Ash — a clip of which Billboard is exclusively premiering Friday (Dec. 12) — the pop star opens up about how losing her Malibu home to the devastating California wildfires of 2018 inspired the original song she wrote for the franchise, “Dream as One.” “When I lost my home, I went back to see if anything had survived,” Cyrus recalled.

“And underneath all the ash, I just saw a little sparkling stone, and it was a diamond from a piece of jewelry,” she continued. “Something like a diamond, it’s beautiful, but it’s strong, and so it can withstand that kind of heat. That’s how diamonds are created. Sometimes, that’s what it takes to create something beautiful.”

The moment from years ago would inspire lyrics on “Dream as One,” including, “We’re diamonds in the dark/ I put my head against your chest/ And listen to your heart.”

“She screened the film, and she related to the loss part of it,” Cameron added in the clip from the special, which also features interviews with Avatar stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet and Oona Chaplin. “She saw fire representing loss and trauma — it was very traumatic for her to lose all of her possessions.”

Cyrus has long been open about how much the 2018 disaster impacted her. At the time, she posted that the house she shared with then-husband Liam Hemsworth had been completely obliterated, though all of her animals were safely evacuated.

When it was first announced that she’d be contributing an original song to the Avatar sequel, she wrote in a statement, “Having been personally affected by fire and being rebuilt from the ashes, this project holds profound meaning for me … The film’s themes of unity, healing, and love resonate deeply within my soul, and to be even a small star in the universe the Avatar family has created is truly a dream come true.”

In the 20/20 special, Cyrus explained that she wanted “Dream as One” to feel like a “deep exhale, like a relief: ‘We’ve made it.’”

“Everything burning down and then rebuilding,” she added. “By picking every piece brick by brick, [you find] what is still meaningful and what matters.”

Avatar: A New Era – A Special Edition of 20/20 will premiere on ABC News at 10 p.m. ET on Dec. 12, and is available to stream the next day on Hulu and Disney+. The film is set to premiere in theaters on Dec. 19.

With Taylor Swift’s The End of an Era docuseries cataloging the blood, sweat and tears that it took to put on the raved-about concert out now, there’s only one thing on everyone’s minds: What did Swift wear that got her through such a grueling tour?

The answer? Forme Science’s Power Bra in Obsidian, retailing for $178. The bra actually makes a cameo in the promo videos for the new Disney+ docuseries available to stream now. The innovative sports bra was styled alongside high-waisted leggings, seen during the rehearsal portions of the behind-the-scenes series. It’s no wonder this bra was in Swift’s tour wardrobe rotation, given the style is meant to be posture-correcting, supporting the back in real time for overall better health, elevating recovery and boosting confidence.

Power Bra in Obsidian

A posture-correcting bra in black.

The posture-supporting garment currently comes in seven colorways and sizes XS through 3XL. It really works because it’s backed by science. The style activates spinal muscle groups that naturally guide your body into proper alignment without strain or effort, great for performers with rough schedules or laborers on their feet or hunched over a computer all day.

This sports bra is created with patented technology featuring six tension fabrics and eight double-layered panels meant to build muscle memory so you can move easier. The standout product, and all of Forme Science’s products, were developed by an orthopedic surgeon for his mother, who battled late-stage cancer. She’d been suffering from poor posture and compressed lungs, making products like these a lifesaver when faced with bad posture.
