Jin shared a private moment with fans ahead of his mandatory military enlistment on Tuesday.

The superstar uploaded a selfie to BTS’ fan-community WeVerse site showing his new buzzed haircut. Gone are his long signature locks that were on full display in his recent “Astronaut” music video and instead, the 30-year-old is rocking a super-short style, commonly known as the “induction cut,” as the hairstyle used by many country’s armed forces including the United States. Jin captioned the photo laughing, saying that he found the new cut “cuter than I thought.”

Unlike a buzzcut from the barber, the military haircut doesn’t keep regard for length or facial features but is cut equally all around one’s head. All recruits in South Korea must have their hair cut short before weeks of basic-training programs at the start of their service. Per national law, all able-bodied South Korean men must serve in the armed forces for at least 18 months with varying lengths of service time. While the draft begins once they turn 18, men may postpone it until age 28. In December 2020, the Korean National Assembly passed a motion (nicknamed the “BTS law”) to allow top K-pop stars to postpone service until age 30 with a recommendation from the culture minister.

BTS’ management label BIGHIT MUSIC recently shared a notice to fans that there will be no “official event” to mark the star’s enlistment.

“Jin will fulfill his required time with the military by enlisting in the army,” read a note from BIGHIT on BTS’ Weverse. “Please note that we will not be holding any kind of official event on the day of his recruitment. The entrance ceremony is a time to be observed by military personnel and their families only. In order to prevent any issues that might occur from crowding, we ask fans to please refrain from visiting the site. Instead, we ask you to keep your heartwarming words of support and farewell in your hearts.”

Jin is the first of the seven BTS members to fulfill his mandatory obligations.

Sam Ryder is up, up and away in the U.K. albums chart race.

The hirsute Eurovision contestant leads the midweek chart with There’s Nothing But Space, Man! (via Parlophone), his debut album.

Space, Man holds an advantage of almost 2-to-1 over its nearest competitor, SZA’s SOS, the Official Charts Company reports.

Ryder represented England at Eurovision 2022 in May, his entry “Space Man” raking in 466 points for second place behind the winners from Ukraine, Kalush.

“Space Man” went on to peak at No. 2 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart in the same month, losing out to Harry Styles’ mega-hit “As It Was.”

If it maintains its trajectory, There’s Nothing But Space, Man! would become the first debut album by a solo artist to hit No. 1 in the U.K. since Oliva Rodrigo’s Sour in March 2021, according to the OCC.

Coming in at No. 2 on the Chart Update is SZA’s long-awaited second LP SOS (via RCA/Top Dawg), which is on track to land the U.S. singer a career chart peak and her first U.K. top 10. Regardless of where it enters, SOS should top the No. 45 best for her critically-regarded debut Ctrl from 2017.

English singer and songwriter Sam Fender could nab two top 10 titles this week, with Live From Finsbury Park (Polydor) set to debut at No. 7, and his former leader Seventeen Going Under on course to lift 45-9. Earlier in the week, Fender was announced as a headliner for the 2023 edition of Britain’s Reading and Leeds Festivals.

Also eying a top 40 U.K. debut is A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s fourth album Me Vs Myself (Atlantic), which currently sits at No. 21. The U.S. rapper hit No. 11 with his previous collection, 2020’s Artist 2.0.

As the U.K. enters a cold snap, Christmas tunes are dominating playlists at home. No less than four holiday-themed albums appear in the top 10 of the chart blast, led by Michael Buble’s Christmas (via Reprise), up 5-4.

All will be revealed when the weekly chart is published Friday.

Elvis snagged three Golden Globe nominations on Monday (Dec. 12), including a best actor nod for the film’s star, Austin Butler.

The Baz Lurhmann-directed biopic received Golden Globe nominations for best picture and best director as well. The 80th annual Golden Globe Awards are scheduled to air Jan. 10, 2023, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

Elvis Presley’s story will head back to the big screen in a forthcoming Sofia Coppola-directed biopic centered on his wife Priscilla Presley, with Jacob Elordi taking on the role of the King of Rock and Roll.

Talk of the upcoming film sparked Twitter comparisons to Butler’s role in Elvis, which is now streaming on HBO Max and other platforms. Elvis has became the second-highest-grossing musical biopic at the global box office (third domestically) and director Baz Lurhmann’s top-grossing film in the U.S. and Canada.

The film was released on Blu-ray and DVD in September, so if you’re looking for a gift idea, you can order a copy now, and have it delivered before Christmas.

Butler stars alongside Tom Hanks, Olivia DeJonge, Dacre Montgomery and David Wenham in the film chronicling Presley’s story as told through the eyes of a complex relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Hanks).

Presley died one day before he was slated to start a new tour. The 42-year-old singer was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor of his Graceland mansion on Aug. 16, 1977. This year marked the 45th anniversary of Presley’s death.

Aside from the complicated dynamic between Presley (Butler) and Parker, Elvis explores the rock legend’s rise from poverty to unprecedented stardom “against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America.”

Elvis debuted in theaters in June and has grossed over $280 million worldwide. It was later released digitally on Prime Video, Vudu, Google Play and other platforms for $19.99.

But if you’re an HBO Max subscriber, you get to stream Elvis at no additional cost. Not subscribed? Monthly packages start at $9.99 a month and if you join HBO Max through Prime Video you’ll get a 7-day free trial. Find more HBO Max promo deals here.

‘Tis the season to get sexy. Lizzo took to Instagram over the weekend (Dec. 10) to share her spicy take on a popular holiday character.

“100% THAT GRINCH,” she captioned a video in which she’s dressed as The Grinch, rocking a green wig and matching smokey eye, along with a bondage-style jumpsuit, with fur and chains all down the bodice. In the clip, she twerks along to the chorus of Shelby Swain’s “Mrs. Grinch,” in which she raps, “I’m a bad b—-, Mrs. Grinch / I’m a real one, I don’t f— with them / All wrapped up in designer, from n—-s I don’t got time for / Mrs. Grinch, Mrs. Grinch.” Swain also created Lizzo’s hair look for the Grinch transformation.

Lizzo is set to step in for previously announced performers Yeah Yeah Yeahs on this weekend’s Saturday Night Live as the final musical guest of 2022, as the band had to cancel because guitarist Nick Zinner is still recovering after contracting pneumonia last month. When the “About Damn Time” singer joins host Austin Butler on the Dec. 17 episode, it will mark the third time the pop-rap star has performed on the show.

“SURPRISE,” Lizzo wrote on her Instagram on Dec. 11 announcing the news. In April, the three-time Grammy winner pulled double duty on Saturday Night Live, hosting and performing the self-love anthem “Special” and “About Damn Time.”
