You know everything’s gonna be a breeze now that Selena Gomez and David Henrie’s Wizards of Waverly Place reboot is in production.
Gomez announced at Disney Upfront on Tuesday (May 14) that the upcoming series will be called Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, and also shared the first-look images and the series logo. In the snaps, the cast is seen smiling on set. Gomez and Henrie, who played magical siblings Alex and Justin Russo on the original Wizards, will reprise their roles and serve as executive producers on the reboot. Along with Gomez and Henrie, former Disney Branded Television head Gary Marsh and director Andy Fickman are on board to produce, as are the pilot’s writers, Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas.
Henrie’s character will lead the majority of the show as Dad to sons Milo, played by Max Matenko, and Roman, portrayed by Alkaio Thiele. More than a decade after the original Wizards wrapped in 2012, Justin Russo is also a married man; his wife, Giada, will be brought to life by Mimi Gianopulos. The series lead, Billie, will be portrayed as Janice LeAnn Brown.
According to the series description, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, follows “an adult Justin Russo, who has chosen to lead a normal, mortal life with his family, Giada, Roman and Milo. When Justin’s sister Alex brings Billie to his home seeking help, Justin realizes he must dust off his magical skills to mentor the wizard-in-training while also juggling his everyday responsibilities — and safeguarding the future of the Wizard World.”
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is slated to premiere on Disney Channel and Disney+ later this year. See the first-look photo below.

6 Memorable Moments From the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards: Hostless but Not Hopeless
The show, originally dubbed the MTV Movie Awards, was a yearly fixture from 1992 to 2019, but has lost some momentum in recent years. The show wasn’t held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, MTV aired MTV Movie & TV Awards: Greatest of All Time, a clip show hosted by Vanessa Hudgens, which featured highlights from past ceremonies.
The show took place in 2021 and 2022, but the 2023 show was stymied by the Writers Guild of America strike. Drew Barrymore was set to host that year’s show. Barrymore has achieved success in both movies and TV and would have been an ideal host, but when the WGA went on strike on May 2, 2023 – just five days before the show was set to take place at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif. – Barrymore and most of the planned guests dropped out. As a result, the traditional ceremony didn’t take place. It was replaced by a pre-recorded virtual ceremony with no host.
The MTV Movie & TV Awards were once a hot pop-culture show. Hosts in the show’s prime included such A-list stars as Eddie Murphy, Will Smith, Ben Stiller, Mike Myers, Jimmy Fallon and Sarah Jessica Parker, the latter at the height of her Sex and the City fame. But the show has lost some allure in recent years.
The two post-pandemic shows that made it to air were co-hosted by Leslie Jones and Nikki Glaser, followed by Hudgens and Tayshia Adams. No shade to these performers, but they’re not Eddie Murphy or Will Smith.
This isn’t the first time MTV has pulled the plug on a show. The 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards were scheduled to take place on Nov. 5, 2023 at the Paris Nord Villepinte in Paris. The ceremony was cancelled on Oct. 19 due to the Israel–Hamas war, becoming the first EMAs to be cancelled in its 30-year history. Despite that setback, voting remained open until Oct. 31. The winning artists were revealed on Nov. 5.

Mary J. Blige’s boot game has always been official, and the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul is finally dropping the boot collaboration that fans have been wanting for years — just in time for Mother’s Day.
Blige joined forces with Giuseppe Zanotti for her very first boot collaboration, released on Sunday (May 12). The Mary J Blige statement boot ($1,295) is inspired by the custom boots that Blige wore to her Strength of a Woman Festival and Summit. The slouchy over-the knee boot features reflective, rose gold and are available in women’s sizes 6-12.
According to the product description, Blige co-designed the statement boot, which “encapsulates the unique and celebrated styles” of the R&B icon and Giuseppe Zanotti.
She announced the collaboration during the 2024 Strength of a Woman Festival in New York on Saturday (May 11). “The Mary J. Blige boot is officially in the universe,” she says in a video after the concert. “Everybody’s been asking for it. The announcement was made on stage while I was wearing [them] with a f—ing fire outfit.”
Blige’s Strength of a Woman Tour Festival & Summit, hosted by The Breakfast Club co-host/comedian Jess Hilarious and entertainment journalist Gia Peppers, takes place from May 11-12 at Barclays Center in New York. The Mother’s Day Weekend event featured performances from Blige, 50 Cent, Jill Scott, Fat Joe, Jadakiss and Lola Brooke. The Clark Sisters will headline on Sunday (get tickets here.)

BTS’ RM Needed Stitches After ‘Come Back To Me’ Video Accident That Had Director Worrying About…
Music fans voted in a poll published Friday (May 10) on Billboard, choosing the BTS singer’s new solo song as their favorite new music release of the past week.
RM’s latest track brought in 91% of the vote on the poll, securing a notable edge ahead of new releases from Gunna (One of Wun), Post Malone featuring Morgan Wallen (“I Had Some Help”), Camila Cabello fearuing Lil Nas X (“He Knows”), Megan Thee Stallion (“Boa”), and more.
“Come Back to Me” is the first single from RM’s upcoming 11-track second solo album, Right Place, Wrong Person. The new set is due May 24.
“Come back to me/ Like you used to/ Now, I could see/ What a life is about/ I told you I’m fine tonight/ Staying good/ Spring always been here/ I will sleep in her eyes,” the 29-year-old K-pop star sleepily croons over acoustic guitar and whistling.
The song was first performed last August during a surprise appearance at BTS bandmate Suga’s Seoul concert on his SUGA | Agust D Tour ‘D-DAY’ The Final outing.
RM’s first solo LP, Indigo, was released in Dec. 2022, and peaked at No. 3 on the all-genre Billboard 200 and featured guests including Anderson .Paak, Erykah Badu and others.
Trailing behind “Come Back to Me” on this week’s poll is Gunna’s fifth studio album, One of Wun, with nearly 3% of the vote. The 20-track project includes collaborations with Offset (“Prada Dem”), Normani (“$$$”), Leon Bridges (“Clear My Rain”) and Roddy Ricch (“Let It Breathe”).
